The show is already signed for a season 2.

Season 2 will cover book 2. From what I read they are hoping that they can do a season for each book so long as the ratings stay good.

I have very good taste. I watched the third episode yesterday and I can honestly now say I will not watch any more of this crap. Pure garbage.

Honestly I didn't like the first three episodes either, but it's finally picked up now and I am enjoying it.

Nicky 05-23-2011 04:25 PM

It's far from the best I have seen but I enjoy It enough to keep watching, I have also read the books so that is helping.

I just got done watching the first few episodes of Treme. Now THAT is a good show. I know it's not new and the theme is totally different, but that is a real show shot and written by professionals.

I'm a big fan of The Wire, but Treme wasn't doing it for me. I'll probably watch it once its run is done, and its on DVD.

I realize that Game of Thrones isn't David Simon material, but its still a good show, and it delivers in different ways. You should give it a chance. How many episodes (or minutes) did you actually watch?

If you only watched the pilot, then bail from the discussion of whether or not its a quality show.

I watched the first 15 minute premier and thought the show was going to rock. Then I saw the first episode and it really bored the shit out of me. Then I saw the second and third episodes and they turned me off even more.

It seems very trite and stereotypical. LOTRs came out almost a decade ago and it managed to look a lot more real than this. I mean the effects and scenery aren't even that good. All the actors look like they just stepped out of the beauty salon, and they are supposed to be living in a time that resembles the Middle Ages. Remember how the actors in Deadwood looked? Fucking filthy, because that's how people looked like in those days. Yeah it's a fantasy, I get it, but still, doesn't feel real at all.

Some characters are totally mis-casted IMO... like the blonde girl who gets fucked by the 8 foot giant in one of the first episodes... she looks like a cheap hooker not the kind of character you would find in a fantasy medieval story.

The dialogues seem forced and dumb. Those things ruin a show or movie for me. And to top it off you have the nudity and softcore porn type sex that seems to be thrown in randomly just to prove this is a truly "grown-up show" and of course so you won't change the channel. I hate that shit. Maybe I'll pick up one of the books, but I doubt it.

That's too deep for me. What does it mean and how does it even apply?

Young 05-24-2011 07:32 PM

Great show IMO. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion though. And to be fair Game of Thrones takes place in it's own world. So if you're going into this with expectations of what it SHOULD look like (comparing it to Deadwood and LOTR) then of course you're going to be disappointed.

If you watch some of the production reels You'll see that the set designers have gone to great lengths to avoid the looks of the Middle Ages. You either accept what you see on the screen or you don't.

So what do you watch on Sunday nights? I need something for my gf to watch so she can get off my back when Game of Thrones is on and it seems like you too have similar tastes in television.

SIK 05-24-2011 07:40 PM

Game of thrones is awesome.
The fact that it doesn't appeal to LOTR fans is probably because there is no elf skating on a shield and shooting 100 arrows per sec.

Do they really? Could have fooled me.

I thought Mildred Pierce was excellent. I don't know if it's on now where you live. I also posted Treme was very good.

LOTR is a masterpiece, the movie and especially the book. I wouldn't compare either because although I didn't read Game of Thrones I'm willing to bet my soul it's not on the same level.

The comparison I made was in the quality of CGS and scenery.

superdio 05-24-2011 07:50 PM

Midget sex, brothers sex, lots of guts and blood, tits, swords, and ninjas. This show has everyting i need.

(And if you're a Dolrathi, do it in public -- who cares? The girls are all slaves anyway.)

No the blond chick whose brother forced her to marry that head dothracki dude eventually learns to bang sensually (taught by the slave chick character) and rides the dothracki dude (Dave Navarro) facing him.

I keep hearing from different people that it's sweet and I have to watch it. I don't watch much TV, but I'll check it out.

RuthB 05-25-2011 02:48 PM

Every time an episode finishes I feel irritated and want there to be more! I don't like that they're not really involving the direwolves as much as they should, but hopefully that will change.

Different strokes for different folks. The millions who tune in every week obviously enjoy watching it :2 cents:

You should Moe. The books delve deeper into what imho sold the series into becoming a tv mini series, but fails to convey on the small screen. You won't be disappointed.

hottoddy 05-25-2011 03:22 PM

For an HBO mini-series production, it's damn good. As a fan of the books, I have my quibbles with some of the adaptation - but overall they've done a remarkable job. I thought the weakest scenes so far involved the Tournament. First, the City Guard captain begs for help due to the massive influx of people. Next we cut to the Tournament, and it looks like there were a few hundred people watching max. The Cal Drogo stuff comes across a bit weak as well.

The second book has over 1,200 pages and contains epic battles. That will be a challenge on HBO's budget (they're not New Line Cinema). I've heard they may break it out into 2 seasons.

Treme is great. I just finished watching the 8th episode of season 1. Gonna do the 9th now :)

J. Falcon 05-25-2011 05:18 PM

OK I just watched the fourth episode and I still can't get into it, so it's not like I'm not even trying. I don't care about the characters (too many) and really don't understand what's going. I mean I REALLY HAVE NO FUCKING CLUE. Something about the winter coming and a wall and Others. I literally cringe every time the midget opens his mouth. WTF is he supposed to be some kind of bad ass? I guess it simply doesn't impress me. I'm coming across as a snob, I guess I am.

You can't be "wrong" in a matter of opinion, and WTF does being a "girl" have to do with it?

It's funny to see how people will down vote the negative reviews as "not helpful." Why do people get so personally offended when you don't like their favorite thing? I thought my best friend's husband would never speak to me again when I called his favorite movie "kinda cheesy." :1orglaugh

Now you're just starting to sound like a close-minded hater. Trust me, you're not the genius minority who is seeing something that the rest of us dumb mouth-breathers aren't seeing. There's a consensus that the show is good, so that makes you the asshole.

From what it sounds like, you're not even paying attention to one damn thing that's going on. It's not complicated to follow at all, if you actually listen to what characters are saying and half stay awake. I really think you have some kind of bias against the shopw before you even started. It's not like you have to like it, but you have some of the most retarded criticism. You shouldn't even bother because you just sound like an idiot now....

I'm giving my opinion, you can think whatever you want. It's not the first time I thought largely appreciated movies or shows sucked. Don't take it personal.
