I dont mean to be rude but I dont know whats worse you posting this about your daughter, making her look dumb as a rock or a 20 year old driver doesn't know the mileage.

She had two guys come at the same time. One older, one younger. The older guy got here first and just as most of you predicted... This is bad, that's toast, those need to go, nope, this is the wrong one, won't pass smog with that, this needs to be changed.

Then the younger guy shows up. Oh, my dad and I can fix that... This is just fine, it's to be expected on a car this old... etc.. etc...

The old guy was getting pissed! He had got my daughter to "think about" $1400 as a "high" offer with all of these problems it has...

The young guy has $1800 in cash and later on confessed to her that he brought $2200 in case he got into a bidding war!

He quickly handed her the $1,800 and the older guy split. Very pissed off. Like he was owed something and somebody took it.. lol

Young guy got the car and I fully expected him to get her number too.. haha!

As for buying another... Grandma and Auntie are taking her to do that next week. Someone will make a lot of money on that transaction... But it won't be my money.

Figured that out from the first post you made.

She'll get by just fine in life. Despite her lack of technical know-how, she got the job done.

Fair go, the hood might still get opened occasionally, like for its 6 month service!

Hey look, there's a new icon thingy lighting up on my dash. I have no idea what it's for, so I'm not going to worry about it.

Jay, something popped up on my car and my friend told me I should tell you about it.

Oh? What is that?

I dunno. Some kind of red thingy next to the thingy that tells me how fast I am going.

Hmm....

[It was her check engine light.]

How long has this been on?

I dunno... Maybe since, like, umm, I dunno.

Come on, try harder.

Oh, I was on when we went to the beach!

OK, that was three weeks ago. You really should tell me these things as soon as they come on.

[Turns out she is low on oil.]

OK, I put some oil in it. Next time tell me right when it happens, OK?

OK!

[ring][ring] Hello?

Jay, the red light came on again.

Really? The same one?

No! This one is different!

OK, does it have a name?

Yeah, it says break.

OK... Are you parked right now?

Uh huh!

And are you on a hill or anything like that?

Yup!

Did you put on your emergency break?

Yeah...

OK, put your foot on the petal and release the emergency break and tell me if it goes off.

[done as requested] Yeah, its off. Should I just leave the emergency break off then?

No, that light is just letting you know it is on so you don't drive around with it engaged. It is supposed to come on.

Oh, OK! Bye!

This is my usual day when it comes to her...

If we are at a restaurant and the waitress asks her, Do you want that small or large? She will say medium even though it wasn't an option.

So Jack Benny talking about his wife was not cool? How about George Lopez talking about his mother? Larry the Cable Guy talking about his family and friends?

She's going to become something in life. She's going to do great things.

Life lesson, let her learn it. It is clear by what you are saying she has been babied for way to long, and protected from ever seeing the real world.

Best thing you can do is turn your head and after its done, let her know how she failed to prove nothing but how nonindependent she is.

lilith_pet 06-06-2011 02:44 AM

Cheered me up a little bit on this disgusting Monday :)

Is this her first time buying a car? Hopefully grandma and grandpa will help her with how to buy
a car, to the extent that they know how. At 20 years old, that's perfectly right that she wants to
do this, as it's time that she learns to sell and buy a car. Your job as dad (or grandfather) is to
be her assistant, helping her with her first car buying experience. I've found that taking that
tack often works. "This is exciting, you're buying your own car for the first time. How cool.
Since it's your first time, I'd be glad to assist in any way you'd like. I can ride along with you in
case you want to ask any questions or anything."

It's up to her to ask questions, you (or someone) is offering to be there, mouth shut, until she
wants some input, just as you would do with any of your friends. You wouldn't tell your best
friend what to buy or how to buy unless he asked.

For used car buying specifically, I have two paper checklists which I always use. They have
come in handy with less experienced friends and family because I can say "these lists are
helpful to me. They help me make sure I don't forget to check something important, so I
don't buy a lemon or pay way too much for a car with problems. Here's a copy in case they
may be as helpful to you as they are to me." The cool thing about the checklists is that I'm
not saying I know more than the person I'm talking too. I'm saying that I am helped
by the checklist because I can't remember everything that should be checked. That makes it
easy for them to accept the lists, rather than accepting my advise coming down from on high.

As for the lists... I too use some lists I've had since economics in high school. And when I pull them out the dealers often tell me, Okay, lets be honest, this car isn't going to pass any of that shit, I don't have any that will and I am not willing to go as low as those lists will put you.. so I think we are done. lol...

People that god damned ignorant really piss me off. Must be nice to be absolutely worthless and have some feminist idiots financing her idiocy. Then she had better hope for a juicy inheritance, because she's fucked without that and if she does get it she'll blow through it anyway.

I'm curious how she landed a vehicle like a Bronco to begin with... She's lucky she was selling a rare truck with a 100% enthusiast buyer market... If it was a civic or a corolla or something it may have taken her months.

Agent 488 06-06-2011 12:14 PM

sounds like you have some resentment towards her.

V_RocKs 06-06-2011 12:20 PM

She got it from a friend of her dads... I shouldn't say "friend" because it needed a lot of work and he basically told her dad it was good as new... Her dad is pretty fucking clueless and believes just about anything somebody tells him.

Case in Point: He is getting screwed by a boss. This boss is a hardcore alcoholic. He never pays the guy on time and this goes on for about 8 years... I am talking, he owes him $2800 for the month (1990's here) and pays him $1,200. Sorry dude, I'll get you next month... No wonder his wife is now my girlfriend?

Anyway... He would be down about $12,000 after a few months of this shit. Then his boss would run into large cash and say, hey, I'll pay you $8500 right now, or I have to make payments over a year at $1,000... and you know I'm gonna be short all the time, so just take the $3,500 less.. and he'd do it! WTF?

So he goes to a party at the bosses son's house. And his son is pretty set. He is first to get paid after dad and he also has a side job so he owns two houses, several cars, desert toys, water toys.... doing well for himself.

While at the party one of the home owners friends is getting plastered and becoming a big time asshole. This guy tells the home owner, hey, maybe you should cut that guy off. He is pretty big and is being a dick. So he tells the guy, hey, this dude doesn't like you and thinks you should leave. What do you say to that? So he gives her dad a beat down and then everyone gets into it and start beating him down...

His jaw is shattered. Wired shut for weeks, can't work for 3 months... Broken ribs, punctured lung, fractured cheek bone, eye socket. Broken fingers.... (remember, he is a tile layer)... broken ankle...

OK.. He can now sue the son for big time cash. The boss says, yeah, but if you do that you will needlessly raise his home owners insurance... Lets work something out... He gives him $6,500. Remember though... He makes about $2800 a month... So he just gave him LESS than he'd have made in the 3 months he was off!

Fucking amazing... I did everything short of kicking his ass and taking him to a lawyer myself... he didn't want to seem disloyal to a boss that's helped him out so much over the years....

HAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA

So you can see this kind of thing is hereditary....

Tam 06-06-2011 12:21 PM

I'll never forget the first time I went to buy my own car. I went to my father in law and asked him to give me pointers on what to ask, and of course he wanted to go and work the deal as he was a car dealer himself and he knew all of these guys. But I was hell bent on doing it myself. I had him tell me what to ook for and told him if I got in a bind, I'd let him know.

So I got to the car lot, it was a black 79 Trans Am I was after. I told him I wanted to drive it and he handed me the keys. He wanted $4900 or something like that.. I drove it and let it get up to operating temp and took it out on the main highway and floored it, the instant I did, it started sputtering and by the time I took it back 20 minutes later it was over heating.

Guy came to meet with me and asked me how I was going to pay for it, and I looked him and said "Well, first thing, the seat isn't bolted to the floor, it runs hot, is burning oil because I lifted the hood and there is fresh oil all over the motor so it's blowing oil. It has a nasty knock in the bottom of the motor, and the wheels are way out of line, and that's just for starters. So unless you plan to give uit a complete rebuild or charge me under $2000, I won't be taking it today." and when I looked at his face after all of that, he was just looking at me stunned and didn't have a damn clue what to say or do.

YOU can teach her what to say and what info to have on hand, give her some tips, but let her work the deal all on her own, give her the tools and let her figure out how to use them. Otherwise she is going to get worked over and who do you think is going to get the blame for that one? YOU are. lol

Always give them the tools, make it come off like you are going to show her what to do and how to paint the picture but give her the brushes and let her paint it the way she wants to. She needs you to teach her, but she needs to DO it.

That's how I do with all 4 of mine. I give them tools, but let them make their own mistakes with those tools.

The people who put up with that kind of shit, I call them "Full time losers"... that IS their profession. I'd just LOVE to see someone try any of that shit with me. Don't pay me? Not worried about it? You can pay these people... don't pay them? I don't know what they will do, but, I would not want to be the one who didn't pay me (them)

Then this big bozo at some party fucks me up that badly? I'll end his world.. Won't kill the guy, but he'll lose any job he ever tries to have and anything he owns will be destroyed for years until he isn't even insurable - forget about it

she'll live and learn and prolly look back and think to herself man i was green around the ears.

Hell. That could happen. But the "um like omg ima gurl so i'm a ignorant like um idiot and how um dare you to um accept me to like know anything" shit is INCURABLE

Being a "helpless" girlie-girl only works for so long... when she starts ageing she's going to be in trouble!

Any help or guidance is thrown right into a void

Just forget about it

Ouch, that was harsh to say about V_Rocks gf's daughter. (sorry edited, thought it was your daughter)

I do know what you mean though, my oldest son has dated a couple of these girls and I swear I feel so sorry for them. One was an only child in a very religious family and the other was one of who knows how many in just short of an abusive home and I swear they could barely feed themselves. I've always been very self sufficient and I am the kind that wants to know everything about everything about everything else.... man or woman related. lol

The one that came from a christian home, I sat here one night having only met her two times and told her I could tell her how her entire life has been, and while I used much kinder words than you have, they basically meant the same... her parents didn't teach her nothing but how to praise god and that she despised them for. She was a spoiled little brat on one hand, and on the other,, in my mind, very abused, they didn't give her one single skill to go out into the world with.

Kids have to have the basic skills, sure, but they need life skills and a great many of them don't even come close nowadays.

I don't mean anything towards you V-Rock, we've talked at length many times I have nothing but love for you. Just in general, kids aren't taught shit for how to survive these days. I don't know YOUR situation, but just in general.

None taken...

The problem is that in a divorce situation where daddy is always a victim, guess who his daddy's girl is listening to right now?

Waiting to see the broken old banger she buys to replace it.

100% certain she will buy something purely because it is shiny or purple or matches her favourite dress.

Cool funny story, bro. Only in America.

ottopottomouse 06-07-2011 11:25 AM

100 women who shouldn't be trusted with anything more complicated than what's for dinner.

MrMaxwell 06-07-2011 07:32 PM

I didn't mean to insult V Rock ... sorry

But he needs to wake up and stop putting up with that shit

No woman is worth being stuck with a problem like that girl.. no woman!! He's going to NEVER be done baby sitting that mess, and it will come back and be living off of him some day
