Realizing now what domains were available back when I was registering silly names drives me crazy. And I'm talking about generic names, not names which are only relevant now due to new technologies. Oh, to go back in time :(

Not to mention that until Network Solutions slapped a $50 reg fee on them, .com was free to register :) I'm the same, if I knew then what I know now *sigh*.

back then you could register 1000's of domains in a day without paying a penny, netsol sent the bill 3 months later, and you pick which to pay for.

I'd share my most memorable moment in the industry but I signed a non-disclosure on it about 11 years back. :(

It was a good'un though.

I had my iGallery tshirt up until a few years ago, then it disappeared. I didn't attend IA2000, but I was aware of it and wanted to go. I think my first Internext was 2002?

Miami 1999 was my first show! I'll never forget chatting with this great guy for at least an hour before he gave me his card and I had a laugh and asked him if Joe Lackey was his real name;-)

I wasn't going to post but you made me remember NetSol raping me for my domains because I had someone else listed as administrator (who succeeded in transfering them all away from me), and Noah stepping up to the plate and getting all but one back.

Still, I miss the one that I lost...

As of tomorrow - June 21 - my original site (still online) will be 13 years old; although I had to move it to a new domain name after the NetSol fiasco. At that time (mid-1998) I worked for FSN and - before that - I ran subscription BBS's in Toronto.

I might not be old school, but I sure feel old.

Yet another one of my personal bad decisions - I probably should have invested in DirectNic instead of going my own way. I'm just going to sit here and kick myself until the phone rings.

Tom_PM 06-20-2011 02:14 PM

Never been to a show, but started up in the industry at the tail end of '99 or '00 anyway. Think I paid 30 bucks for a set of 50 pictures and made a couple of free sites. Virtual server was a hundred bucks a month and would crash if I got a handful of surfers.
Gee our old lasalle ran great, those were the days.

pornguy 06-20-2011 02:21 PM

1999 for me.

It was a blast.

I remember the day you were broadcasting and I was talking over you saying things "This is God, stop pissing me off". You couldn't hear it, but the listeners could, haha
