I don't really think it's a re-imagining, it's more of another take on it like in a series, in a way. They've made, what, 3 so far, this being the 3rd? I haven't seen it yet but I'm guessing it's more or less the rise, hence the title, like how it all started.

That's exactly it. There's no "chimpocalypse" in the movie -- so the scale is small. But that's OK, its a really great story.

twas the same dude and the same technique used to create gollum in lord of the rings.
that dude deserves an oscar for his performance in this film.
james franco however, deserves a beating.
for real, he is the ONLY bad thing about this movie.
if ya gotta take a leak or buy popcorn or whatever, do it during one of his monologues.

They did an excellent job!

Just saw it yesterday and it was amazing! Better from part 1 and in my opinion this is the best movie for 2011.

I was hooked from the beginning. The writing, acting, direction are all excellent. The movie moves so quickly that I didn't want to blink for fear of missing anything. The Visual Effects by Weta Digital are stunning.

While the story is a little predictable (The Apes DO rise), there are several good surprises thrown in to keep you guessing. It has several nods to the original APES movies from the 60's and early 70's that fans will notice.

The only bad thing is that Andy Serkis does not get top billing as the Star of this movie. He's in practically every scene but only gets an "and" credit after James Franco, Freida Pinto, John Lithgow, David Hewlett, etc. Andy Serkis deserves an Oscar nomination in my opinion.

I watched some of the map in the end credits, and could pretty much infer what was happening. Was there more stuff after that?

Having your name in the credits with an "and" is actually much respect.

I saw it, it was OKAY. Definitely not a 10 out of 10. 6.5 out of a 10. CGI was great, but the plot was predictable and slow to build. It was also hardly connected to the original film.

Then I have to watch it.

7 out of 10... maybe 7.5

I enjoyed it... But its no 10/10.

There were so many throwbacks, references, small touches and blatantly overt "in your face" style nerd candy to the originals that I found it kind of cheesy.

in the end credits it shows you a pilot getting on a plane with a virus that will kill him the pilot got the virus from a man who worked at the lab were they were developing a cure for alzheimer's so basicly they are trying to say that pilot will get on the plane and spread the virus that will kill everybody and only apes will survive

I thought in the original it was man teaching them to be clever and man getting dumber. Then they took over and decided to take revenge on all the things man had done to them.

Still looks good enough to warrant a visit to the cinema.

I thought the original planet of the apes, was the astronauts crash landing on another planet that was populated by clever apes. I don't think the original series had anything to do with apes on earth.

it was good....

Main actor too young and not believable as a scientist. I think a older actor like harrison ford would have rocked it. I did not feel the chemistry of the scientist and girlfriend. How did the stupid monkeys in the zoo know what was going down?

This film covered it by talking about the men lost in space mission. This was the Prequel.
