Bump, i'd love to see them go down

phil-flash 01-23-2012 07:41 PM

I went to Oron.com contact page as well... I sent them a simple message including a large list of files that belong to me. I told them that if they did not remove these links and content that I would go to paypal and let them know.

It seems that all of my files that are or were hosted at oron.com have been removed. I believe that they did a blanket sweep and banned the two users that were posting the shit out of my stuff.

What email address are you using for paypal when you include them on the DMCA notice? Are you CC or BCC'ing them on it?

Thanks!

Oron owns some of those forums - possibly even Kitty-Kats - wasn't Kitty-Kats known by another name/domain before?

They KNOW everything uploaded to their servers is illegal and they're disgustingly blatant about it. You can't be more blatant than OWNING illegal file sharing forums, (cough, Oron buying pornbb and who knows what else).

My guess is, they are going to review where an affiliate's traffic comes from and terminate any accounts that derive traffic from mainstream movie and music sites.

I think they honestly feel adult copyright holders are spineless. :1orglaugh Hell, they might be right if they end up being one of the few standing after all the other highly incentivized file sharing networks fall.

Maybe MU will raise from the dead and only do adult once they see no one in the adult industry is going to stop them.

If a site existed that contained full length mainstream movies and music, (just like adult tube sites do on a massive scale) how long do you think they would get away with it?

Other than the fact one is copyrighted adult material and the other is the ladder, there would only be one difference. One will stay online indefinitely while the other would be shutdown within 6 months.

Oron bought PORNBB, and they did not put a whole lot of effort in trying to hide the fact.

man, once there was wild west and you can shoot anyone there. i mean, they bought pornbb but they didnt knew that problems like megaupload have not may come. times are changing, and i believe and i hope that now when adult business see that fighting piracy is not impossible, someone will take the action too and now or later problems will come to the rest. lets hope, and have luck everyone :)

I hope you're right man. Other than taking 1 minute to send a DMCA complaint I haven't seen it though.

Hell, Epassporte and Chris Mallick stole 10s of millions from people in this industry and the guy is just taking vacations in his private jet laughing. No one did anything other than post a website with a couple pictures and last known address.

How would you want to take down Oron? By contacting PayPal?
That won't get you too far. PayPal have profited from Oron for years.

Anyone want to take down PayPal? :))

Anyone doing an investigation on Oron and the other file-sharing services? Where to post information?

BIGTYMER 01-24-2012 03:20 AM

Oron ONLY allows porn. Upload warez and your account will be banned. Oron needs to be taken down!

AFAIK. The owners of oron are smart enough. They ban all affiliates who uploads Hollywood movies, because they don't want to fuck with a big boys. However they don't ban those who upload porn only. They know - nobody will sue their asses for it. In two words: Hollywood content and warez are forbidden, porn is ok. This simple policy makes them almost invulnerable.

Yup, contacting paypal is not a good way to go about it. You would have to threaten Paypal with something significant for them to give up $100s of thousands in processing fees.

Paypal actually suspended processing with Oron for a couple weeks, my bet is that Oron made some sort of deal, (maybe higher processing fees) to get their account back.

To take Oron down, you would need to gather evidence of them directly profiting off copyrighted works hosted on their server. I'm sure there is PLENTY of evidence of them acquiring pornbb, not to mention, I have my suspicions that they're buying off major uploaders to use their service, (anyone can contact me via ICQ for that information).

I think there is more than enough information to take them down, that's not the problem. Who is willing to spend a couple hours a day gathering evidence and contacting local district attorneys? Who is willing to spend the money to hire attorneys and go after them?

Only a couple major producers. Which in the grand scheme of things, is a risk these adult file sharing networks and tube sites are willing to take. They pretty much took over an entire industry, and less than 1% of content owners actually stood up and did something beyond sending a fucking DMCA complaint. Maybe they make $100 million and pay a $3-4 million settlement to one or two content producers that actually do something about it.

People in this industry are weak in general. Maybe it's because they're afraid to work with the law or maybe it's because they're just plain fucking lazy.

The whole epass situation is classic example of it. How many people who got ripped off do you think filled out a simple IC3 complaint form and followed up on it? My guess is significantly less than 1%. How many people do you think contacted the local district attorney where Chris Mallick resides? Probably no one.

Instead they spent more time posting pictures of the guy's fucking family on GFY. As if that's constructive or going to produce any positive results.

AdultKing 01-24-2012 03:45 AM

I have it on good authority that a Paypal representative and their legal team provided evidence to the Grand Jury about MegaUpload long before indictment was unsealed and the raids occurred. The conclusion that can be drawn from this is that the prosecutors wanted Paypal to act business as usual so as not to jeopardize any action pending.

If there is any chance that Oron is currently being investigated then Paypal may continue processing so as not to tip them off about pending prosecutions.

I would suggest every report to Paypal about Oron is beneficial, however don't be surprised if action isn't immediate should other things be afoot to deal with them.

That's true, Paypal will undoubtedly cooperate with any ongoing investigation while acting as if it's business as usual. Who knows if there is any investigation being led against Oron though. Since they deal significantly with adult, my guess is no. :1orglaugh

I just don't understand one thing however... They openly host porn, including illegal one (e.g. there are many scat and bestiality pirate boards where all the content is stored at oron). Does PayPal and VISA/MC consider it's normal to process scat and bestiality content (doesn't matter copyright or stolen)?

Did somebody try to get an answer from PayPal and VISA/MC on that? Are they now ok with such sort of content?

Quite likely there isn't.

I can't imagine prosecutors would want to handle more than one big prosecution like this at a time. I think MegaUpload is very much a test case.

However I was just pointing out one possibility why action may seem to be slow.

Well the whole file locker case is in the spotlight now. Big companies especially don't like bad publicity that could possibly hurt their image. So now is the time to put on pressure.

It's a technicality that all these file-sharing networks survive on. They aren't selling access to pornography, they're selling access to a service, the content uploaded using said service is the responsibility of the uploader. All Paypal cares about is what's outlined in the terms of use for the service they're selling.
