Think about this. All you are really doing is moving electrons around inside a computer. When you get paid by wire, all that does is move electrons around inside a computer (your bank's).

The BS in this business has always been of the highest levels. At that it out paced offline in most categories. People can say what they like and when asked to prove it or what they do, it's all excuses.

IT Consultants. :1orglaugh

What exactly is that? The Internet is just a communication tool. It's like saying I consult on the phone network.

Pick up the phone, dial the number and wait for the other end to answer. :thumbsup

I got fired from the job I was working at the time. Downsized is more like it, but at the time I was running my free sites and gallery submissions FROM WORK and had more than replaced the salary I was making at the time. While I was sad to lose a job that had me travelling around the world on someone else's dime, being my own boss at 24 was a much better situation.

Lykos 03-07-2012 09:01 AM

This was the first job i started.
Started very young so even 100-200$ a month in start was good money to me back then.Used to live with parents, going to school... ahh good old days :)

Downside of IT consultant: No chicks are in it. Its a sausage party.

Upside of IT consultant: The money practically prints itself, the clients pay well and you get a load of questions once you tell your clients your background involved pron ... instant rockstar and BAYUM .. more orders.

I started Consulting, love it. Still have side projects to have the chicks in it

it depends on how you sell. Nothings dead if you're a salesmen without shame. (and I am not saying THIS guy is one of those salesmen)

I have a bachelors in computer science and know more about IT than 90% of all consultants. yet I have never made it as an IT consultant. I cant even stay employed with consultant groups for long. I dont have the ability to lie to the customers. I dont even like to mislead them. IT consultant Employers HATE it if you wont lie or mislead the cleints. If you shamelessly take advantage of your clients lack of knowledge in IT, you will be a top earner in IT consulting. I have a sense of shame/morals/a sense of right and wrong. I use to think of that as a badge of honor. Now I see its a mental defect. So there's no such thing as "that industry's dead" to the proud few.

You want to make the most money as fast as possible? loose your shame. loose your sense of right and wrong. look at all surfers as people who have YOUR money. hell, look at other webmasters as people who have your money. Now you'll get rich fast.

Have a heart? have a sense of right and wrong? well you have my condolences. I understand completely.

I guess the 2.2m GP (Gross Profit) we made in 2010 is not real ... I'll let my employees know this. Thanks for the heads up.

Same here started in 1999 when I was 16 and in high-school, building freesites and submitting galleries. Had my dad's name on the sponsor checks :upsidedow

savy 03-08-2012 08:00 AM

I haven't started yet... I have earn some money doing some presentation websites and some graphics, but nothing major. I thought I could do something on freelancing sites, but then again... I'm not going to do an entire website or anything that requires time and hard work for 50$, so because of this, no one hired me there.
If I start earning at least 300$ a month from doing this, I'll quit my job! It's not that having a job it's bad, but having a job that sucks with a small income, well... that sucks.

panchodog's izzy 03-08-2012 09:21 AM

I started working as a freelance writer part-time while still working as an Affiliate Manager with Panchodog. I have been 100% freelance since 2008 and counting and it's a full time gig for me. I make enough to pay my bills and make a pretty decent living where I'm located and I've enjoyed the freedom previous jobs did not provide me, basically allowing me the time (and funds) needed to get my Masters degree in Clinical Psychology, so I can't complain.

:)

Hey, if you're doing it, more power to you. Much domestic IT consulting has fallen victim to the wave of Indian outsourcing.

"Technology-related jobs have grown rapidly in the past 25 years. But the past two years have been tough on everyone, including technology workers. Not many new tech jobs are likely to emerge in 2010, but analysts expect to see a rebound by the middle of the decade"

I can tell you that Indian outsourcing was great for my business as customers here in the US have been burned a few times from overseas firms, plus cultural gaps, language gaps and time gaps and most importantly also what my team and I do is hands on in their offices.

Nothing against anyone overseas .. but a face to face meeting with people of a similar cultural background, and onsite experts versus webex / email / conference calls is all the difference in the world.

There is nothing more powerful than being able to look your customer in eye while doing business, golfing, or sharing a meal talking about the deal :)

I suppose, but I do that and haven't been able to break the 5m mark in 5 years of trying. For you to get to 25 employees and 6m in sales so quickly during this last crisis means it isn't printing money, it's you being a very very good salesman. I'd personally like to watch you work.
