Hell if I know, hence the "excuse my ignorance" part. If somebody has fake PR8 domain and all of a sudden tons of links start showing up, I would think that might grab some attention. No? I've read a few places that they do penalize for too many dofollow links in order to keep people from selling them. I looked into it when my PR dropped. Then I went back and changed the vast majority of my outlinks to nofollow and my PR went back up shortly after. Could be a coincidence. Anyway, that's why I'm asking. I have worked hard to generate my PR and I would hate to lose any of it for any reason, especially something I can easily avoid like getting caught buying links. Thanks for the input. |

Yep, read that a few months ago. Sounds like they have a difficult time figuring it out though and are asking people to rat others out. |

Agreed. Not worth the risk of losing my PR, especially if I spend money to do it. Thanks for the feedback. |
As for the OP, his responses sound like the Indian telemarketers that ring me trying to scam something. Too dumb to realize that he's been seen for what he is and keeps trying to sell.....

This piece of shit was doing this on Warrior Forum too I believe - if not him, it was someone else with the exact same schtick. Has some shitty looking "high PR site" (I think it was a PR 7) that he's selling links from and there were plenty of red flags to indicate the PR would update to something far lower, and he also said some variant of "I owe this site and for making a trust I would recommend you to buy link only for a monthly basis to avoid risk." On the next PR update I think it went down to 2 or 3.
Scam. |
From a competitive standpoint, it makes much more sense to buy links than it does to exchange links.

It is worth somewhere between ten pence and eleventy gajillion dollars

Are you high? Google ranks itself 10 and the serious competition 9 (that means yahoo and Bing). So how do you get near a 7 even?

Go back to digital point, this thread smells really bad... |
PageRank (PR) is just an accumulated mathematical value of a page that represents the total value of the inbound links to that page.
Toolbar PR (which is what we're talking about here) is a logorithmic scale of those values (i.e. PR3 represents the range from X,XXX -XX,XXX, PR4 represents the range from = XX,XXX - XXX,XXX for example) Without getting into faking PR, simply ask yourself... "what would it actually take to have a page that has a higher PR than almost every single page online today" - Unless he runs apple or adobe or google or whatever, does it really seem very likely? Plus... he's selling links. I assure all of you that anyone with a site that has PR8 pages isn't worried about picking up a few extra bucks by selling hardlinks to pornographers, they are concerned about ad sales, quality of the content and the user experience. |
