+17% =/= an increase to a reasonable minimum wage, or whatever the market would require for people to do the job without tips. Bullshit about "outside of the servers control" kind of invalidates anything else you said as you obviously have a point of view that's closed. Why the fuck should I care about figuring out if something is outside of the servers control or not? I'm paying the fucking restaurant and the server and trying to figure out if something is the busboys fault or the chef's fault or the managers fault or the servers fault is just bullshit predicated upon justifications based on servers wanting to be tipped. If I go to best buy and buy a TV , but its actually not a very good TV it turns out, should I return the TV but still take a portion of that return money and give it directly to the salesman? I mean, he didn't make the TV right? I had lots of shit jobs over my life, and some of them were enjoyable even, but lets face it - shit jobs should pay shit. Waiting and tips doesn't make any sense and the sooner everyone figures that out the better. |

It's not difficult to understand at all. The fact that we think it's retarted doesn't mean we don't understand. |

So you walk into a store and ask for 5 top of the range computers.
Should they ask for an extra 17% because of all that extra work they have to do? - They have to pack them and the paper work is a pain in the ass. It doesn't make sense! |

P.S. Why they were unable to give you good education at least? Who are you now? Nothing? I "believe" your parents are proud of you :disgust |
I wonder what would happen if a restaurant chain in the US said - We do not welcome tips, we pay our staff a good wage?

Thats right, Its all peachy in Russia. The $200 monthly hand out from government which barely covers their food and living expenses. Alcoholism left and right. It's all deception, all lies. Who are you fucking kidding? And see, here we get our own education. We don't have to rely on our parents to pay our bills or provide us with shelter. We actually work thru college and get our own place. How old were you before you moved out from your moms two bedroom apartment? 35? We dont wait for gift, we go and GET it! :1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh |

I love how a thread aimed at bashing on black people not paying tips turned into a fuckfest between a clown and a Russian.

I took two friends out to lunch. While there we ran out of beverages and the waiter promptly came and refilled both their glasses, looked straight at me and walked away without refilling mine. I'm black and both of them were white. Well when we left, I paid the whole bill (I took THEM out to lunch) and left no tip. The waiter chased us out to the car demanding his tip. I told him he should take better care on whose paying the bill and not to assume I'm just tagging along on my white friends. I just closed the door in his face and we all had a good laugh on the way back to work.
I normally tip very well according to the service and the custom. It s expected here in the US. |

I'm gonna share my lil tip story with you all, if you wanna read it... Sorry if it gets a little long, (AKA A "Markhamesque" wall of text...) but I promise not to mention 'poo' - Whoops - Just did !
Being from the UK, and only really used to tipping in fancy restaurants, I made my first trip to the USA in 1999 It was a biz thing. I was there with my wife, who was appearing at different locations as part of a 'Caravan of Stars' at 'The Tampa Show' I ended up with her, and about 30 other pornstars and 20 or husbands and BFs in the VIP are of a 'strip club'... Believe it or not, I didn't really want to be at the strip club at all, as I was Jet-lagged from my flight etc, and not really interested in seeing (more) naked girls etc... But I kinda went along with the crowd, if only to 'Support' my wife... Pretty girl (Who worked there) approaches and say - Would you like a drink sir? I asked her how much for what I wanted, she said $10 (For a beer) and I thought, well, thats steep, for a beer, but well, I can afford it, so yeah, ok go ahead... She says she'll be back with it... I find a ten dollar bill (Still not used to the money, as to me, it all looked the same) and have it ready, for when she returned. She handed me my drink, I said thanks and handed her the $10 and it was dark, and kinda noisy, but as she walked away, she looked at the bill, gave me a filthy look, and said something that sounded like an insult (but I couldn't hear it over noise) and walked away... I didn't get what I had done wrong, so I asked someone (Poss Mike South - But dont quote me on that) what the problem was. I was told that the girl worked basically for tips, and I had insulted her! I DID NOT KNOW THAT! I thought that she was being paid to 'sell me' a ten dollar beer - and she had... & that was that... But I did feel really guilty when I realized, and went off looking for her to give her another $10 as a tip... However, I couldn't find her, and even to this day, I still feel guilty about it ! Needless to say, lesson learnt, and cultural differences understood, from that point on, I was always sure to tip, and to tip genourisly everywhere I went in the USA for the next 8 years... On the flipside though, I went to a Dennys with a female coworker in SD one day, and after the meal, I went to the bathroom. When I returned to the table, she said that while I had been in the toilet, she had paid the bill. I asked idf she had tipped (Cause I wanted to make sure) and she said yep, all taken care of... So we left. Day or so later, based on my car reg plate - Police showed up, asking why I had 'Dined and Dashed' ! Not only had she not tipped - She hadn't even fucking paid! But, if you have read this far, my point is, dont jump on the 'Euros' and bad tippers or skinflints... Truth is, a lot of us (Like Myself) simply may not know! After all, you americans are used to it, brought up with it - Its normal. But for UK peeps, not so much :) |
