IPad. The kindle fire is cheap and great for surfing.

Ipad! I have owned both the Ipad and an Android based tablet. The Ipad far superior! :thumbsup

Well said, same here. :thumbsup

I do not mind the tablet when traveling, or watching TV where I need to do some level of hit and miss, or minor tasks. However, when I have to get actual work done, I need a real computer. I can bang it out, with proper spelling in a couple of seconds what would take me 5 on an iPad.

Each have their pros and cons. But I simply work much faster on a desktop/laptop.

I wouldn't even attempt to get any work done on a tablet. For me it's mostly personal enjoyment - watchin' the occasional movie or game playing in a comfy chair.

I also keep some original photography on it to carry with me to show potential clients, friends, etc. Better than squinting at the tiny screen on my Motorola 'droid cell, lol.

Galaxy 7" tablet is perfect size. Been using one for almost a year now. With Teamviewer, I can access my desktop for anything. You will be happy and you won't be on the Apple teat.

I got an Acer Icona A200 (its only 8GB) which is sub standard but it does the job. Maybe try a Samsung tab 2 (i hear it's coming out soon).

agree the tablet will never replace the desktop/laptop. I think they hype that up as just a marketing ploy..

Basically the only good use of a tablet so far as I have found is texting and checking emails. The GPS comes in handy when you get lost. Finding a business when your in the car and so on. Kind of fills in where a desktop, laptop, or nettop can't. But you can get that in a small handheld too. So it's just a preference. The Samsung Galaxy my wife and I use through T-Mobile has a phone in it but it's disabled in the states, don't know why. Would have been nice if that was part of the package.

Just got the Asus Transformer Prime on the advice of a former Apple iPad fanatic that had made the conversion (like a Catholic becoming Protestant during the height of the Spanish Inquisition) and love it. Good luck finding either one though. Most places we looked on and offline wouldn't have them for weeks.

iPad. I have a Xoom that I got for dirt cheap and it's a POS. the Android app store has shitty tablet apps.

I haven't come across one video site that is not HTML5 enabled. When I challenged a friend to show me one - he pointed to some live streaming illegal sports site.

If you can wait another 6 months, stick with your laptop and buy a Windows 8 tablet at the end of the year.

Yeah, for the last 10 years Windows have been selling tablets, they have cleaned up and got mad market share.

Godsmack 05-07-2012 03:03 AM

iPad :thumbsup

Loving my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (very similar experience to my Android phone). Got it for just over $300.

Choopa Phil 05-07-2012 08:52 AM

Another vote for the Galaxy Tab here. I like Ipads but the functionality of the Galaxy is far superior

CPimp 05-07-2012 09:28 AM

Happy you said you don't want an iShit. I use an Acer Iconia a500 and it's great. Just got updated to the latest Android (ICS) and I love it. One thing I recommend you use is an app named Android Tablet Apps. When you open the app it takes you to their site, Android Tablet Apps where they list nothing but apps for Android tablets. I've found it a great resource so far. I tried other 'tablet app' type sites and apps but noticed ridiculous issues with them, for example, there's one in particular that fully loaded with ads, and no content. It sucked.
