he's right. They engage in battles of "who stole it first." They loose perspective in the spirit of the chase. They all think the producer of said content needs to be punished because of the money he might or is making. If you have a pay site and some php skill, implement a relatively simple script which executes in the background when a new member logs in for the first time and tags one or more of your chosen "bait" clips with that member's ID or username. Most video formats will allow you to store some data inside them. Then code your member page so that each member sees their own version of the bait clip(s). I don't do all clips as that takes far too long but I pick 2-3 really good clips. Then when you see those clips on file sharing sites you know the member who posted them.

Proceed to fuck with him according to your own imagination.

I've been wanting something like this for a long time. Everyone really should have something like this that easily identifies the source of the leaked content.

I see what Duke did with Extreme Board more of a preemptive strike. There is a smaller tube that I did the same thing with. They were hammering us day and night with my older ripped DVD videos, non-stop, so I worked something out with them and now they don't show up there anymore. That doesn't mean I support piracy, or even them. That means I found a way to control that site and solve a problem.

Is this a better solution.

It's not a perfect solution by any means, but it's a solution nonetheless.

At the end of the day, I will do what I have to do to keep my content off of sites I feel are the most damaging to my business. Sometimes that means leaving some content on there that is older that I don't care so much about anymore. Sometimes that means hammering them until they give me access to delete my own content. Sometimes that means advertising or letting them be an affiliate. And sometimes that means costing them their processing accounts and in some causes, they have lost their hosting.

Though, I have to admit I've never done anything as bad ass as Duke and cause a divorce. That is just fucking awesome.

While no one enjoys skinning a cat, there is more than one way to do it.

There is no way really to do it without some programming and it is difficult to provide step by step instructions as it all depends on how the site is implemented, format of the clips etc. I would suggest getting a web developer to do it, it shouldn't take more than a day of work.

Also, the thief can easily re-encode the clip and erase any metadata you put in it so it kinda depends on them not knowing what's going on. Still it's been very effective for me as they usually don't bother with reencoding the clips.

There's definitely a way to do it that would be very difficult to remove. If you were to encode the video with certain frames with a group of pixels that alternate in different places through the video and kind of "blend in" with the surrounding pixels... you could create a sort of dynamic QR code that would be virtually impossible to see with your eyes. The pixels could be large enough that even if you were to transcode to a lower resolution format, it would still be obvious who the pirate was. And I highly doubt they'd be willing to go through the entire video frame by frame to see if they could pull it out...

Actually, the top pirates seem to be pretty smart as they keep releasing movies and stuff while companies spend MILLIONS and MILLIONS to stop it (piracy exists since? 1980?) :winkwink:

Not saying what they do is good. But the dumb people are only the ones that upload to the filehosts. The smart people are on top, and actually do it without making any money, in fact they put their own money in the business to keep it running (yes, for fun.)

Also wrong, nobody ever reposts other peoples links to other forums cause that won't make them money.
