Same shit they did with the post office... passed laws they knew would bankrupt it and, even though it costs taxpayers NOTHING (yes that's right the post office was always self sufficient before Congress fucked it up) they are killing it so FedEx and UPS will be our only options soon. FedEx is sharpening their anal probe pricing tools right now for when you can no longer go to the Post Office. ;)

Amen Brother.

I wish you guys would quit making me defend some of the right's positions. LOL

I don't agree with them either.

I don't know how "comprehensive" the ancient Greek educational system was. But I do know that they are the basis of our entire Western Civilization and our philosophical way of thinking. So I'm gonna say: it was BETTER.
The results certainly were. lol

As for best higher education in the world...I don't know.
Is Harvard really better than Oxford? Clinton didn't seem to think so. And he's one of the smartest presidents of my lifetime.

And I agree on private school. I hated it. Went for one semester in 3rd grade. They were so far advanced over me that I felt totally inadequate. I was a straight "A" student in public school. But a moron in private. :(

Education

¶ At the beginning -- and even in the middle -- of the century, high school diplomas were rare, indeed. Back in 1900, for instance, only 6 percent of 17-year-olds graduated from high school. By 1940, 25 percent of people age 25 and over had at least a high school diploma. Today, a diploma is the rule rather than the exception: 83 percent of people age 25 and over had at least a high school diploma in 1998.

Tony, I have two kids. One graduated last year. The other is 15 and in high school. If you saw how low the standards are now you would laugh.
I swear to God we did more advanced stuff in 5th grade than they are doing in 10th grade.

They have lowered the standards down now to where you basically have to have severe retardation to NOT get a high school diploma. It's outrageous.

I guess it's all tied in to getting funding. They have to meet a certain criteria to get money. So they just keep dumbing shit down to get better ratios of "success".
That's why our kids aren't learning shit and get left in the dust by the Japanese.

The ones who hate Romney will hate him not matter what. He could likewise adopt the entire Democratic platform and they would still hate him.

It would be nice if we could stop treating politics like the parties are your favorite sports team.
I personally vote for what I think is right. I voted for Clinton in 1992. I voted Bush in 2000. I voted Obama 2008.

Haven't made up my mind yet about 2012. I think we would probably be best with a Republican led Senate and House and Obama as president. Or the other way around Dems control congress, Romney as president.

That seems to be what works from what I've seen in my lifetime.

But as far as being a "Dem" or "Repub"....fuck that. This ain't fantasy football. I take each man on his own merit and try to weigh the effects of what he will do.

And despite all the apologists and people trying to make excuses...Obama hasn't done much. Especially the first two years when he seemed to be missing in action while Reid and Pelosi ran the show.

Give it a rest man, the sheep will never fucking snap out of it, they love playing these pointless games every 4 years...

Robbie, first off, i'm not hassling you. Just want to get that out of the way.

I agree with half your statement. I don't believe for a second that we're overtaxed. See my previous post about tax rates in the '50s and '60s.

However, I agree 100% that our allocation of resources is completely out of whack, especially when it comes to war. These wars we are in are completely for money. Money for corporations.

The defense budget is about $900 Billion a year. About $180bil is for the VA, so let's leave that out. That leaves $720bil to fund 2 wars started under false pretenses. Let's cut that number in half. $360bil/year would still leave us with an incredibly strong military.

Can you all imagine the great things we could do here at home with the other $360bil/year??? As you say, roads, helping people etc. I'll add education to that as our educational system has been consistently gutted over the last 30 years. Without the H1B visa program, our lead in science would be gone overnight because our own kids have been getting a progessively sub-par education for a generation.

Yep. The taxpayers subsidize fucking WalMart's payroll. They don't pay their employees enough to feed their kids. The health benefits suck, if they offer them at all. These political debates are like sweet n sour candy. lol

It's fun yet frustrating at the same time.

Reality is...we all have our minds made up. We've seen what we've seen. Lived through what we've lived. And formed our opinions.

The only thing that is incredulous to me is the percentage of people the media tell us truly haven't made up their minds.

It just seems impossible that anyone who doesn't live under a rock could not have an opinion and a decision made on who to vote for. I suspect that the folks who claim that when asked just don't want to tell what they think.

Anyway, as I said...this debate is both fun and frustrating. Kinda like my sex life. lol

Hey, if you (or anyone else) like to live in fantasy land, that's your call ;)

Just so you know, the source we're talking about is Politifact, an independent, pulitzer-prize winning organization that fact-checks statements made by political figures & others.

Their 'pants on fire' section is particularly fun: http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-me...gs/pants-fire/

and fyi, other major news sources including the Washington Post have also called bullshit on this one.

Tom_PM 08-17-2012 12:41 PM

Gotta understand, if it's EVER been spoken of on the Huffington Post or MSNBC, it equals the socialist left wing media propoganda machine. It's the new black.

My friend told me today that she read in a news report that a company discovered that, and I'm quoting here, "most" of Romneys Twitter followers were, "fake". I told her but surely you must be reading the left wing media because it contained that story. We had a nice laugh.

That's how it goes these days. Why be intellectually honest or curious when you can just kill every messenger? Takes too much effort to have actual arguments and counter arguments.

Quote:

WARREN, Ohio (AP) ? Republican vice presidential contender Paul Ryan says he never would have included a $700 billion Medicare cut in his budget if President Barack Obama hadn't done it first.

Mitt Romney and his running mate Ryan have been criticizing Obama in recent days for taking Medicare funds to help pay for his health care overhaul. But the Republican candidates haven't mentioned that Ryan's own budget proposal included the same cut.

A reporter pressed Ryan on the issue during an impromptu stop at a local hot dog restaurant on Thursday.

The Wisconsin congressman says that he "never would have done that in the first place." He blamed Obama for making the original proposal.

He also says he voted to repeal the president's health care law, which would repeal the Medicare cut.

Fox has taught you well how to spin and ingore things that don't fit what you want to hear. My comment was based on your dismissing the source because politifact is run/associated with the tampa bay journal.

I then pointed out that politifact is an independent, pulitzer prize winning organization that fact-checks the things that politicians (of all stripes) and others say. To which you brilliantly, and ever-so insightfully responded "Enjoy your Kool-Aid. ;)"

Fuck the Koch brothers with a rusty screwdriver.

Was just at a Romney/Ryan protest. Silly old man with a video camera tried to get me to say something dumb so he could post it online and laugh with his friends.

I don't think he'll be posting anything I had to say.

He said he lives on $26k / year. I asked him how he felt about Mitt having a lower tax rate than he does. He said that wasn't true. I asked him "how could you know"? Mitt is hiding the truth from us. He said "do you know there is a website that has all of Mitt's tax returns there for you to read". Unfortunately, he couldn't remember the name of it. Damn. Too bad.

He got annoyed that I wouldn't let the issue go, and wanted to know what other issues I have with Mittens. I said I had a big problem with the fact that Willard supported the Vietnam war AND ACTIVELY supported the draft - and then ran off to spread the word of Mormon through France. The jungles of Vietnam for the rest of the guys - Paris lights for Mitt. So, like a natural, GOP dumbass, he wanted to know how I felt about Clinton's military history. I gently reminded him that CLINTON ISN'T RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT this year.

Then he brought up gas prices. I told him even Fox News said the president has no control over gas prices. He guffawed and said "Really? Fox News said that?" And I said, yes - they said it when GWB was president. It's all over Youtube. They don't say that much anymore. Strange that.

Republicans are such dumb shits. Here's an old dude without a pot to piss in - and he thinks Romney, the millionaire, chickenhawk, dog-abusing, flip-flop king, is better for him and the country.

GrantMercury...guys like Romney earn money on Capital Gains.

Do you suggest raising taxes on capital gains? Or do you just like posting vitriolic words?

What is your suggestion? And would raising taxes on capital gains do anything to help our country get out of debt? Why do you want anybody to pay more taxes?
To build roads? Nope, that's the gasoline tax. To help schools? Nope, that's the property tax. To help seniors? Nope, that the social security and medicare taxes.

To allow congressmen to send money back to their cronies at home with pork barrel spending? Yep. To fund more wars? Yep.

How about this...even after we lost our credit rating, the govt. hasn't slowed down spending at all. In fact they INCREASED spending. (though they did decrease the amount of the increase...only in Washington D.C. would that be considered a "cut")

How about politicians get serious about STOPPING THE OUT OF CONTROL SPENDING. Then we'll worry about taxes.

Yup. Raise taxes on capital gains. Lower the payroll tax.

Working people should NOT pay a higher tax rate on money earned with their sweat, than the rich do on money made by money while they lounge by the fucking pool!

Cut WASTEFUL spending (pentagon is a great place to start). Close tax loopholes. Raise taxes on Mitt and his friends who have been getting away with financial murder for years (why do you think Mitt won't let us see his returns)? Cancel the next needless war.

All the money would leave the country. Like one of democrats biggest supporters and one of his biggest fundraisers. Who renounced her citizenship to save 10s of millions of dollars.

Quote:

Wealthy socialite and Grammy-nominated songwriter Denise Rich has renounced her U.S. citizenship and resides in London, her spokeswoman Judy Smith said Tuesday.

Rich's maiden name, Eisenberg, appeared on April 30 in the Federal Registrar's Quarterly Publication of Individuals Who Have Chosen To Expatriate, though she left in November 2011.

By handing in her American passport, tax lawyers say she is able to legally avoid paying significant taxes on her estate.

As of 2001, Denise Rich had made more than $1.3 million in political contributions to the Democratic Party since 1993, including $70,000 to Hillary Clinton's Senate campaign and $450,000 to the Clinton presidential library in Arkansas.
This quote comes to mind:

Aren't you forgetting about the millions of Americans (including seniors with retirement plans) who make money off of investments?

By the way...I was watching CNN and they had one of Romney's guys explain what he's looking to do.

He wants to lower capital gains taxes for anyone making LESS than $200,000.00
In other words, the working men and women and the retirees living off of 401K plans.
His own tax rate would stay the same.

Also, just wanted to point out: yes, some "rich" people lounge by the pool (the kardashians for instance).
But most people who are "rich" are driven and ambitious work-a-holic types who put in more hours in a week than any "working" men and women who are just employees and work 40 hours a week and do no more than they have to in order to get that paycheck.

When you own your own business there is literally NO end of the day (no 9 to 5 bullshit) and there are NO vacations or holidays.

If you're like me...then you are driven by ambition. I work on my "vacations", I work on holidays. I work late nights and early mornings. I work on weekends.

Nobody gets rich just laying by the pool. (except those goddam kardashians lol)
