doing what you did in making the decision for Smoky is the hardest thing in the world. I'm been there, it's horrible. That said, making that decision for Smokey was the most compassionate and loving thing you could do for him. Everyone should have such a dignified exit from this world.

You were both incredibly lucky to have each other.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

CourtneyR 10-08-2012 07:58 AM

Really sorry to hear this. I had to do this the other year with my cat who was 16. She to started to deteriorate. Stopped eating and drinking. could barely stand up she got so thin and weak. Its a part of life though. they live and die.

It definitely is not an easy thing watching your cat be put down. As much as i wanted to be their after the whole thing i wish i didn't see it.

Sorry about your loss man. I lost 2 cats in my life so far, and it's never easy. In both cases I was an emotional mess. Oddly, I rarely cry over the death of a human. I think cat owners always view their pets as babies, so maybe that plays into the confusing dynamic.

It may sound cold, but like someone already posted, you'll feel much better once you get a new pet (or two or three). Hang in there.

I'm thinking you can come get my cat, driving me insane right now always pulling on the power cords and turning the pc off. :Oh crap

DamianJ 10-08-2012 08:38 AM

My little cat was knocked down and killed in the road about a month ago. Can't remember the last time I cried so much. I feel your pain man, and am sending you a huge e-hug. (and some poo).

I'm so sorry dude. Animals become family members. You lost a member of your family. I'm sure you took good care of that cat, and it had a happy life with you. Be good to yourself.

LAJ 10-08-2012 08:44 AM

I definitely feel your pain dude. I had to have a 15 year old cat put down about 6 months ago and I'm still not totally over it. My other cat is 17 1/2 and in great health but I know she could deteriorate at any time. I get sick to my stomach just thinking about it so I try to enjoy as much time with her as possible. Again... very sorry what you are going thru. :(

Also, remember the Dr Seuss quote:

Don't be sad because it's over, smile because it happened.

I'm sorry for the loss of your furbaby. I had to put my dog of 15.5 years down a few years ago. I too was there in the vets office for the final moments that I will never forget and wish I hadn't stayed.

Jman 10-08-2012 08:56 AM

As I am looking at my 2 felins playing in the living room I feel for your lost and sending your way some very good vibes,

Tam 10-08-2012 09:28 AM

So sorry for your loss and the decision you are being forced to make, as an animal lover and one that will take in anything on 4 legs, I feel so deeply for you right now. It isn't easy, and as much as we'd like to think they will live beside us forever, they just can't do it.

We had to put down one of my mini horses last Monday and it was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do... so I feel for you. She had a neurotic disease when we got her and I knew this, but we had 3 years with her, which is 2 1/2 more than anyone said we'd have her. She passed happy and had as much of a good life as we could give her.

Just do what we have to do to get thru this, keep a good thought and know that you are doing the best thing for him... he had a good life with you and you have made such a dear friend with so many memories. :)

Sorry to hear about your furbuddy. I've had to put a few animals down due to old age. One cat we took to the vet because she had stopped eating and drinking, and she perked back up at the vet's of course. He said to take her home for one more night, and she passed away while sleeping under the table. I think it was better for her to go at home. Sometimes that's not the best thing, though, depending on their condition. You'll know in your heart which is best. *hugs* to you.

johnnyloadproductions 10-08-2012 12:34 PM

Not a huge fan of cats but the feeling is the same.

I remember when my mom put down 2 dogs we had that had grown up with me through part of middle school and all of high school. I moved away and after a few years they were put down, she did this without telling me. We got into it and I told her some bad things along the way, wish I could say good-bye (even if they are only animals).

One of my business partners had his little dog pass away and he was teary on the phone, even well over a week from when it happened. This is how these things worked.

Sorry for the loss.

baddog 10-08-2012 12:42 PM

Sorry, my friend. Buddy sends his condolences as well.

Penny24Seven 10-08-2012 12:43 PM

I can't afford a cat. Sorry to hear about Smokey. Did he like smoke or look smokey with different colors? They say do not think about him today but all the times he did shit that made you laugh or when he tore the couch up and you said awww Smokey look what ya did, I didn't like that couch either. Go get another spray tan and relax with a cold one.

Spunky 10-08-2012 12:46 PM

My condolences,I dread the day my Oscar has to be put down.RIP Smokey

Imortyl Pussycat 10-08-2012 12:51 PM

i'm so sad for you right now :waaaaahh as his best friend you had to take his suffering away. 15 happy years is a pretty long for a furry friend. when the time is right for you down the road, remember there are 1000's of fur people with no home and no one to love them that would hit the lottery by coming home with you. i'm very sorry for your loss.
RIP kitty

alex.missyouth 10-08-2012 01:34 PM

Sorry to hear that. I love cats and it has always broken my heart to put them down.
