Congrats on making this task work, nice to have people making new stuff after all
|
Patrick, you sound like a person with renewed energy. That's great.
|
Thomas, you're right ;-). Back in saddle!

Starting to get closed to finished. Server stats went down. Processor is almost idle now. We just switched to the new adserver for the horizontal leaderboard ads on thehun.net. Pushing over a million banners an hour on there, half a mil on mobile. Server is idle almost. Live stats for impressions and clicks, geo targeted, keyword targeted. Can't believe how much of a speed improvement this is. And then to think I was originally considering an extra server to be able to run openX. This is much faster and takes way less resources.
Anyway, I'm looking into making this usable for others. Working on a few odds and ends here. So next up will be click stats on iframe banners (runs in beta now!) and selling CPC and CPM. Almost there! ;-) |

Sorry, not bragging or showing off, just enthusiastic this thing is almost done ;-) |

But still will keep an eye on this thread

Good Job Patrick, it loads pretty fast at this time and even better your resources is freed up for other important things.
I read you would make it available to outsiders, how is that going? |
Still some odds and ends to be programmed before it could go out. Right now we're running all Ads on thehun through this. And I don't need a new server to run it. So I know I have a product in my hands that could be the base of a new company. I'll have to think it over since that takes time which is scarce... I'll keep you posted!

I wrote you an email as well but I understand your situation. |
Mail me, [email protected], I'll check to see if either I can set up a server somewhere to beta this thing, or, depending on your traffic, I can set you up on mine. I'll check into some pricing. I basically need to know how many banner views you're expecting to get.
Bèta testing could give me some valuable information as well, help both ends ;-) |

Before you beta test, you might want to run 10-15 days worth of traffic to see if the stats slow to a crawl.
Care to share what you are using? Software wise. |
It is geo targeted, not mobile ISP targeted. That might be something to look in to.
I probably won't allow the code the be installed on another server... Don't want to have the source out in the open I think... All depends on the model I want to push this in. Most likely it'll be leased out including a dedicated server, or part of a virtual one (can easily be done with the little resources we use right now. And charge like the openX hosted, maybe a little less. I'll have to figure it out, I need support to be set up and all... Might be looking for a callaboration with a host out there. |

Oh and of course handset identification, but thats a given really. |

Boggles the mind why you're trying to pinch pennies. How is that band of yours making out ? Going to attend a show or two this upcoming yr ? |
Not pinching pennies is stupid. For everybody. If you want to run a business: do it well. If you want to retire: stop business and retire well. I do what I do the best I can. My hobby is setting up and running businesses. What's wrong with that?
Nothing is for free, I know. Stuff doesn't always cost money, but it's never for free. Actually I've been to a lot of these shows this year. Vegas, Mallorca, Barcelona, Munich, Amsterdam, Prague. Booking Vienna for next week. Having fun! Band is going strong. 8 gigs so far in December in the Netherlands and Belgium. |
CT-Content is a troll.
|
No more sleep! ;-)... Want to get this thing up and running completely before going to Vienna for the show there. Latest graph added: geo-distribution for a zone. Showing are the horizontal banners for mobile.thehun.net.
http://assets.thehun.net/images/geodis.jpg Working on pay-per-click and pay-per-impression now. Should be done by the end of the day. |
Exciting :-)
|
Ziet er goed uit :) what kind of tech do you use for the ad serving? See you in Vienna ..

on the ad server side I use a trick than is mainly done with mirrors and magic wands ;-)... It'll be all be clear once it's all done. I'll tell you some details over a beer in Vienna! |

Any news here?
|
Yes and no. It's now hosting all advertising on thehun.net as well. Running at about 20% of the resources openX was doing WITHOUT thehun.net running (that was impossible on the server we had for it)...
Development is on hold at the moment since we are doing some needed programming on the submit program (totally revamped, webmasters can tag their submissions now, as soon as we have enough results we'll start using them on the website) and there will be something new for the visitors as well, which I'll start on today or tomorrow. Once that's all done we're going to see if we can make something commercial out of this banner rotation program. Good thing now is that I found some things in there I don't really like (stat wise), so at least I know it's perfect once we do anything with it ;-) |
Question is,would you start with development at all if i did'nt told you to do it ;)
|
Yes, 'cause I needed an alternative for openX... and I have that now ;-)
|
he he Patrick, will have to talk to you about this next week
ripping my hair out trying to use openx to show mobile banners for mobile surfers, why the tell isn't there a simple option "mobile" :( |
Just looking for an openX alternative.
Glad to see your results |
Ruby Sinatra, Hadoob, InfoDb, Jquery.
How much impressions you need to serve daily and what data do you want to store for which analytics? We build our own system that can handle +1B impressions daily on a 2-3 frontend machines. Backend is different depending on what stats you want and for how long and what queries you might want to run (static timeframes or dynamic) |
