that still doesn't explain it, if a video is trying to play and you block the ip, it should still just hang there, but the way it efficiently skips the entire advertisements tells me there is something else going on, as if youtube's scripting is currently written to cooperate with the adblockers

Adblock skips pandora and southparkstudios ads too http://i.imgur.com/1ctg8jy.gif

I don't mind the ads on YouTube.

I would hate to see their bandwidth bills.

Has YouTube ever made money yet ?

What really annoys me these days are autoplaying flash video ads.

When you give away free porn content do you not put advertisements on it? They are in this to make money, don't be a fucking hypocrite.

Yup the same people that say downloading a torrent kills their revenue will happily block ads killing someone else's revenue.

If you don't like the ads don't watch YouTube.

The original poster didn't say he didn't like ads ... he said it was getting ridiculous.

I don't mind ads either. With Youtube they have the video on one side and a big square ad right beside it that you see all the time. That's fine.

It's when you 'have' to watch a commercial before a video (and it becomes frequent) AND you get this banner on the screen at the same time.

Nothing wrong with ads it's just getting to be a bit much.

Would you pay for a premium ad free youtube? How much?

Exactly this. Somebody needs to pay for all that bandwidth.

johnnyloadproductions 01-27-2013 10:09 PM

I noticed FB is packed with ads, especially on mobile. Sponsored stories that is.

SomeCreep 01-28-2013 02:08 AM

303,311,434 chrome users without adblock

So that is 2.1% of people use adblock

So say i buy 100,000 hits 2100 of those Wont see ads
Im paying $3 per k $300 total im going to loose $6.30

Not a very big problem now but what happens when browsers come with it pre installed

Your not losing anywhere close to $6.30 unless your buying 100% chrome traffic.

Boo

Last I recall, you were a business of some sort correct? Or are you just a hobbyist??

At what point do you draw the line with freeloaders? Everyone has bills to pay. Including Google.

If you do not want ads popping up on your websites and videos, pay for a premium service. If a couple of bucks a month to live annoyance free is too much of a hardship on your budget, it sounds to me like you need to rethink your life.

:2 cents:

This is a problem advertisers should fix. They need something like a counter to estimate how many minutes of video have been watched and then they need to limit it to no more than one 30 second commercial per five minutes of video. As it is now if I know the video is short and they pop a 30 second commercial I can't skip then I just close the video and go somewhere else.

unreal. being forced to watch 5 seconds of a commercial is some kind of hardship, for people who are supposed to understand the need for monetization? wtf is going on with people's mindsets?
