Of the 32,000 gun deaths in America gun murders account for about 9,000.
The vast majority of these deaths are suicide and those would probably happen no matter what There is about 500 - 600 accidental shootings Most of these gun deaths can be attributed to failed drug policies. Infact the murder rate has dropped steadily in the USA over the past 20 years |

They could have gained a little respect by acknowledging the latest shootings, admitted that the second amendment is out of date and needs to be modernized, etc. I don't own a gun and never will, but I fully respect the rights to anyone to own guns. This isn't the problem. The problem is that the NRA uses fear to drive people into a frenzy to buy more and more guns, more powerful guns, and more ammunition. They push for laws which many outsides like myself consider insane. Yes, the core of the NRA was to promote responsible gun ownership. This core, healthy belief though was lost a long time ago. They have failed at their jobs, and the current head of the NRA, is a total embarrassment not just to the NRA, but to Americans in general. The speech (not a press conference) he gave today was one of the worst things I had ever heard. How anyone could remain a member after that is beyond me. |

So the problem is video games, music, the media, prescription drugs, gun free zones, god not being in schools, every fucking thing under the sun except guns. All the things listed above are also in every country on the planet and they don't have the gun violence we have. Explain that one. |

It seems to be an overriding trend that in these mass shootings the shooter was on some sort of medication. But I am sure the pharmaceutical companies are more than happy the conversation is about AR 15's |

The fact of the matter is that Chicago had 435 homicides last year, mostly due to gang violence over the drug trade. This number would have been the exact same with an AR 15 ban. The culture of gun violence goes way deeper than a quick "We'll ban assult rifles" fix |

If so, then a gun amnesty / buy back is not impossible at all. In Australia, gun owners are required to have a safe and the police swing by randomly to check where your guns are kept - they make sure they are in a secure location. Along with all guns being registered / gun amnesty / buy back etc all happened with no big problem. However there isn't much of a gun culture over here. |

what i dont understand is why the NRA gets so much "time" on the news media. if the media reduced the NRA to the level of press time they deserve then they would become much less important. personally i dont give a shit what NRA says or thinks, its basically a grass-root organization with strong lobby activity. NRA members especially those in DC should be brought to public attention and who is behind sponsoring them. |

What I find ironic is the NRA is a conservative organization and mostly supported by the right.
So what do they propose? Let's spend $5 BILLION in taxpayer money (and that's conservative estimate) to put police officers in every school. Oh yea, let's have more federally funded law enforcement officials. TSA really worked out (umm..NOT). One universal truth is when people are scared, they will happily give up their rights and hope the government protects them from the boogie man. |

NRA has more members than you think they do and have more going on than you think they do, they have been around more than 100 years. Brought to public attention? Now were on witch hunts? You really have a problem with freedom? What I don't get is the time the news spent on the shooter, who gives a fuck?, Do you? why should we, he was a coward and should be dumped in an unmarked hole and forgotten. |

A strong majority of NRA members are in favor of some tightening of gun laws (assault weapons, background checks, no guns for crazy people), but the leadership doesn't care. They're paid servants of the gun manufacturers. |

and dont we pay the government, police, military to protect us all from the boogie man? perhaps one area we should leave to professionals and give them the tools to keep everyone out of harms way and make everyone feel safe so there is no need for a gun in the car.. |

Why do we need a license to drive a car, yet we don't require a license to own a firearm? |
