A bluff, throw their way a few tons of rice and a couple of tankers full of gas and forget about the crazy bastards for another 24 months.

You're also right that they can do some serious damage to SK cities and resources. We've got some excellent missile defense batteries in SK, so they should be able to mitigate some of them. Could kill a lot of people trying to prove their point, but in the end, they'd be made short work by a much better prepared, trained and lucid armed forces of SK and USA.

I wouldn't underestimate them entirely though. They've had 60 years to prepare for this second coming. Honor is a huge thing to them. Just as a population, they're quite nuts to be honest. The military is really out there. There's a lot of good reading out there about living there and how they train the military.

ww2-esque tunnels? How far, if you can recall the worse reported one?

halfpint 04-03-2013 03:04 PM

I think he wont launch any nukes tbh cause if you were going to attack another country you certainly wouldent tell them that u were going to launch nukes at them so that they could prepare for incomming missiles

A question I was thinking of asking as well.

seeric 04-03-2013 03:18 PM

I did not feel safe in SK when I was there. They are still at war. It felt tense, dated, and stuck in time. Seoul is far more with the times, but the bases we were at were very old school. The South Korean military staff we worked with would always tell us stories about interactions with the North Koreans, calling them aliens and animals. When you're raised in an oppressed state you become delusional and believe all the nonsense you're being propagated. Truly sad, but it is what it is. The crazy father Kim was ranting and tirading even back then. About every two months we'd have to spend 3-7 days in the field living in bunkers playing war games. Even in the winter. We hated that fucking cock sucker for it too.

LOL.

:1orglaugh:1orglaugh

**Richard, I've never seen any of the tunnels. Just heard stories from the SK Army guys.

Those are my thoughts too. 60 years of planning is a long time. I'm also not 100% sold they would make a move militarily. All the huff and bluff could be misdirection. Or not.

I know if I had zero chance of defeating my enemy toe to tow, I would attack them from within where they least expected it, when they least expected it. Guerrilla tactics inside of SK or even the USA could be devastating if carried out properly. Because there is just no way a toe to toe fight would last more than a day (probably a few hours) after they got off their first rounds of missiles. Unless their honor blinds them to this fact, which it may, it just seems like a suicide move.

EddyTheDog 04-03-2013 03:59 PM

The thing that worries me is that NK have been so vocal this time that they have to do something - They can't just just walk away now without losing face - They seriously don't like losing face....

Communications intercepts in recent days indicated that Pyongyang could be planning to launch a mobile ballistic missile in the coming days or weeks, the official first told CNN. It's unknown whether it would be a test or a strike.

The US should knock it out of the sky and then bomb the launch site then claim "We thought you were attacking us". Opps.

Then repeat.

Apparently they think the opposite:
"We are trying to turn the volume down," a Defense Department official said.

"We accused the North Koreans of amping things up, now we are worried we did the same thing," one Defense Department official said.

theking 04-04-2013 11:41 AM

The rhetoric coming out of North Korea is worse than it has ever been since the cease fire was signed in 1953. It is a dangerous game they are playing...and if push comes to shove it will cost a lot of lives and damage to the South and North...but in the end the North Korean regime will no longer exist.

The problem South Korea faces can be likened to a family dealing with a troublesome relative who comes as around from time to time, causing trouble, annoying the neighbors and getting drunk on the porch until you pay them to leave. Problem here is the troublesome relative has 10 kids that no one wants to be responsible for. It is a dilemma for sure.

I think that this is more than just threats now tbh, if you listen to this guy talking and other news outlets they are saying that the orders are comming directly from the supreme leader which is not normally the case and they are also backing up their threats with actually doing things which they also dont normally do.

North Korea war 'possible'

Speaking to Today presenter John Humphrys, John Everard, former UK Ambassador, explained that North Korea leaders "believe that they are the victim, they believe that they are being hounded by the United States".

He went on to speak of a "spiral of violence" between North Korea and the US and South Korea and said that war was "possible".

Great, now Everard speaks up AFTER I booked my holiday to Camp Pyongang. :upsidedow

With China mobilizing along the border, it could be they, South Korea and Japanese as well as the US have decided the gangrene needs to be cut out of the region. I hope they go Dutch on the bill cause whoever gets stuck with the check will be reeling for years. I just feel bad for all the civilians involved. There will likely be many.

At least unification of the Koreas will be good news for Japan.

wehateporn 04-04-2013 04:26 PM

They know that they're getting near to the top of the hit-list, at some point within 10 years they would have been attacked one way or the other, probably better to start the war when USA isn't ready for it. Maybe Syria/Iran will go on the back-burner for a while now.

Big question is if China will keep their promise with NK and protect them.

And this is the problem - it's more of the same. It's been fifty years of this shit. It's costing us time, money, and manpower (we still have tens of thousands of US troops stationed in NK), and every time it flares up you know the White House spends yet more time on this.

What the US needs to do is bomb this missile site and then say "Well, with all of the threats your government has made in the past month we just assumed this was nuclear strike" and then "shame on you for not putting on your big boy pants and telling us it was only a test".

Then when NK has figured out we can hit them without them seeing it coming, perhaps they will change their tune. At the very least we need to establish early on that such threats with not be acceptable.

Sorry, I just laugh at North Korea. You compare what South Korea has to North Korea, and any claim they make is just fucking comical.

loreen 04-05-2013 05:50 AM

Two medium-range missiles have been loaded onto mobile launchers in North Korea and are ready to be launched, South Korea's semi-official Yonhap news agency reported Friday, citing military sources in Seoul.

In response, South Korea has sent Aegis destroyers equipped with advanced radar systems to both of its coasts, Yonhap said, citing navy sources.

North Korea are advising embassys in Pyongyang to be evacuated ....

Other diplomatic missions in Pyongyang have also received such requests, he added.

The British Embassy in Pyongyang has received a communication saying that the North Korean government ?would be unable to guarantee the safety of embassies and international organizations in the country in the event of conflict from April 10,? according to a UK Foreign Office spokesman.
