You can't prove God exists and you can't prove he doesn't.

Agnosticism is the only thing that makes any sense.

He was more than likely a delusional megalomaniac which is why many of his followers eventually deemed him crazy and abandoned him. I liken him to a David Koresh type figure.

There is very very little evidence for a historical Jesus and no evidence for a miraculous one.

Check out a great book called A Glorious Accident. You'd enjoy it. It's a long read but he goes into great detail trying to explain our existence and if we are an accident or not.

That said, how can a human possibly know anything about the grand scheme of things taking place within the universe? On a universal scale, we know nothing and are nothing. As far as the universe is concerned, we are no more or less significant than bacteria growing on a piss ant turd, and if we all died within the next 5 minutes, "the universe wouldn't even notice," to quote Dr. Manhattan.

The concept of energy being part of some sort of spiritual or god world has been hijacked by the new age religious movement. In fact a high school level physics text book will remove this idea from your mind.

Well said.

You also believe in unicorns i take it?

but the older i get, the more i realize how tenuous proof and evidence can be, considering how perception works

How do you know it hasn't held us back. I see way more evidence that it has destroyed knowledge throughout the years.

Christian and Catholics have destroyed thousands of books and writing over the years because it conflicted with their teachings and in many cases may have shown their fraud.

Muslims have done the same. So many libraries have been burned it's insane. More than half of all the great Greek literature of antiquity was burned and lost to us. We have references to books and writings but we don't have those books because insane religious people burned them because they didn't agree with their bible or Qur'an. We call this period in history the dark ages. If atheism would have been allowed to flourish as it was beginning to do during the height of ancient Greece we would probably be several hundred more years advanced than we are now. At one point in Greece was over %10 atheist and there were some great atheist and deist philosophers.

pretty much sums up my view on it. But if YOU want to believe in something, and having that belief makes your life better... Knock yourself out !

Just dont come and burn down my house cause I dont feel the exact same way :)

Yes, just look at how the USSR excelled due to its godlessness. Go atheism.

Some Guy 04-30-2013 12:16 AM

Wow, a lot more atheists here than I thought there would be. Kind of comforting. They say atheists only comprise roughly 5% of the population but I've never believed that statistic. I'm sure it's more like 20% but most people prefer not to admit that they don't believe.

so there is examples of people from every religion destroying things? how coincidental.

i notice that atheists now number almost 20% of the US population

war doesn't seem to be slowing down however, nor the destruction of historical monuments or writing

next time maybe

Best-In-BC 04-30-2013 07:49 AM

Ill find out with I die, thats good enough for me but the idea of a supreme being is just that, a idea and no evidence, well at least using a scientific method. Who knows what this life is, all I know is, we are not all born equal, most have no honor or heart for others.

alex.missyouth 04-30-2013 08:18 AM

I believe there are 'higher' entities out there. Would I call 'em Gods¿? Probably.

What I'm certain is that the God christians, jews, muslims, protestants, catholics, etc praise is a fuckin' joke and a huge lie. Probably the biggest lie in human history. :2 cents:

I'd have to lean towards no. I do accept the possibility that someone or something could have set things in motion, but definitely not some super Jew floating around on clouds. I am certain of that.

I'll go out on a limb here and confess that 'god' = energy, for me. Should be good for at least a reply or two :)

Best posts in the thread thus far.

People, believe, don't believe, put all your faith in Science, put it all in God, whatever floats your ark. But those of us who can truly say they are openminded as well as non judgemental have a leg up in life on those who aren't. This I know for certain.
