50 shitty beats

Ross 05-14-2013 11:35 AM

I just flew a total of 42,000 miles in the last 5 weeks and got to really use my Bose QC15s, if there is better headphones out there than these, please link me to them. They are absolutely incredible, I don't normally sleep long on a plane but with these I slept so much. I flew to Indonesia, my flight was 12 hours and I slept 8 hours of that there and back, it's totally down to the headphones. Battery life is amazing as well, I did roughly 30 hours of listening on one battery. Even when asleep, I still had music on down low, if it finished, I still had the noise cancelling on.

I highly recommend spending the extra $50-100 and picking up the Bose QC15s. My wife also has a pair and before these never slept on planes, on our trip she managed to sleep a good amount of the time as well, not as much as me but still at least half the longest plane ride. She loves them.

I've tested and owned the Bose QC15's and the AKG K495 NC. The Bose are incredible by all means. However, for a similar price the AKG's offer a superior sound and are generally known to have a better build quality. The rechargeable battery has lasted me upwards of 20 hours and I rarely even notice they are on my head....even after a 10 hour flight.

Elaborate a bit on sleeping, I never heard people buy headphones to help them sleep.

exactly. People riding on bicycles here with those huge things on, i think they look idiotic. Like all these people need high quality music sound everytime they go somewhere. 90% puts them on their head because they think they look cool when in fact they look like morons to people with common sense.

It's OEM stuff, grey market...but legal here to buy and sell in the states as of a month or so back. Thanks to a Supreme Court ruling. Anything I can buy retail from China can be sold in the US without hassle.

I bought a case of the Soul by Ludacris for under $20 each and dumped them on a thrift/pawn outfit for $50 and he's selling them for $100 with no problems in the hood. I think the retail on them is about $150. He's taking a case of 12 every two weeks and getting rid of them quick.

Here are the Soul:

That's a quick $200 for bringing a box up to his store up the street.

The shit's all made in China anyhow. I'm all for saving a few bucks.

And the cheap OEM Beats. The pair that I snagged for my little cousin for Christmas looked identical to the ones his girlfriend had. From the box to the product, they were the exact same thing. Just made for and sold to different markets.

Yes. I have purchased from this exact link. Purchasing from AliExpress is pretty safe. I have never had a single issue. Alibaba holds their money in escrow until you verify that you have received the item and it is what you ordered.

The only issue I had was an order that should have had 10 items only had 8. Within a week, another package arrived with the missed 2 items, plus an additional 2 items.

Can't beat that.

Pay the extra for quicker shipping. It usually amounts to a $1-2 per item you've ordered. I got something I ordered on Friday in the box yesterday. From fucking China!

Well I never slept very well on planes, the noise always kept me awake most of the time, I'd nod off for 30 mins here and there but never anything consistent. I just flew from Canada to Scotland to Singapore to Bali back to Singapore, Scotland then eventually back to Canada. Total trip time in the region of 60 hours (broken up over 4 weeks), I'd say I slept at least 35 hours of that, maybe a bit more, putting my headphones on with noise cancellation was excellent, throwing on some music, not too loud, just put me to sleep. One flight from Amsterdam to Singapore was 12 hours, I watched 2 movies for the first 4 hours then slept until the plane landed, I didn't move once the entire flight.

It might not be the headphones, maybe I can just sleep on planes now, who knows really, all I know is I love my headphones. I bought my wife a set at the same time I bought mine, she is a super light sleeper, I fart in the middle of the night and she wakes up, she never slept on planes but on our travels she slept a lot as well.

I've got a few little mom and pops that seem to not know their way around the internet. That's the only explanation for it.

One is a cellphone shop. The owner was actually driving to NYC to buy stuff off of Canal St. for his store. Cheap crap, and he was overpaying for it. He loves me, just because now he doesn't have to spend a weekend away from his family each month, and this stuff is nicer and cheaper.

Odds are they are shit quality.

Try and order a Jersey from a china guy, it will come with all the rebook holograms and such, and look pretty good. Then wash it a few times, and you'll see what the problem is.

My mom has a friend who's a flight attendant with a route to Hong Kong. She's had it for 15 years, at least. She's been bringing stuff back from stores in China for years and I've never had any issue with anything I've gotten through her. If stuff is obvious knockoffs, that's one thing. This stuff is coming off of the same lines as the "real" stuff that gets shipped to the US. It's just packaged for a specific market.

SmutHammer 05-15-2013 02:42 PM

Beats headphones are way overpriced and heavy! I took my kid shopping for headphones and he almost bought a pair of beats. I talked him into going to bestbuy before getting them. We tried all of the headphones on, and none of the beats could compare to the $150. Bose in sound or comfort. He bought the Bose and is still very happy with them.

When I flew to Texas back in December there was a guy with headphones with the number "6" on them. I hadn't flown in a real long time before then, so I had forgotten just how much noise there is when flying. When I got home I googled those phones and found out they were Beats by Dre. I also found this article: NY Times - Headphones To Shut..

In summary, the Bose model you own wins. The Dre model was tested and didn't even make a difference at all in noise cancellation. So as others have said in this thread they are just for hipsters and those who care about image. You might as well buy something like I have--the Panasonic RPHJE120K for $6 dollars.

They do now. Check these out: Sleep Phones. Perfect especially if you're a side sleeper. They're worth a try if you have trouble sleeping at all. Just put some binaural beats or sleep related music on your mp3 player and you're good to go.

duk75 05-15-2013 04:42 PM

If you want silence just buy ear plugs, they are cheaper!

videobunch 05-15-2013 05:11 PM

My son wanted a pair but while were in the checkout line to get them he started to tell my how all his friends had them but they kept breaking after 6mths and one of his friends was on his 3rd set. So we put them back and went with Bose. He told me a couple mths ago his friends all started to do the Bose since they did not break.

Maybe the old person in me, but you never can go wrong with Bose.

The noise cancellation is awesome. It works without playing any music. Just turn the headphones on and noise cancellation turns on. I do this all the time with them when I dont feel like listening to music. Also, the leather on them is very soft and comfortable.

I love my QC15's.

They're what's called OEM. They come off of the same line and are made to be sold in markets outside of the US. Sometimes there are minor changes that make the differ slightly from the retail models. For instance, I bought some Speck iPhone cases. Identical from package to case except for a difference to the button holes.

I have to put in this week's order today. When the next batch arrives, if you still want a pair to check out...I will sell you a pair cheap. No problem.

I'd guess he has a friend or knows someone with a storefront who will have no problem selling them.
