I've been listening to Opie and Anthony for the last few years, but I recently got him on my SiriusXM when I upgraded my package. I realized I really miss listening to Howard. I could listen to him talk all day... and there's some song parodies that people do about Robin's titties -- I laugh so fucking hard I almost have to pull the car over.

Relevant still? Nope.

SiriusXM does seem to be doing their best to kill the momentum of all their shows, Stern, O+A, and Ron and Fez included. When O+A and Ron and Fez were in the old XM studios the show was fucking incredible and you really never did know what might happen. After the takeover and the move to the combined studios the corporate environment that they shove down all the shows throats makes everyone sound like they are beaten down by management...

Ron and Fez is the biggest waste of bandwidth. When Fez became an emotional wreck, I just couldn't tune in anymore.

Yeah...I don't get Ron and Fez. I listen, but mostly because I don't bother turning the channel.

and that's what Sirius is hoping. There's surely something better that could be on, but I'll bet Opie and Anthony has a lot to do with them having any airtime.

Yeah...I'm pretty sure they've got a big say in anything that airs on their channel. I know that O&A are basically subcontractors, and employ some of the staff themselves. While some (like Sam Roberts) are SiriusXM employees.

Once he leaves Sirius, he'll be entirely irrelevant.

I grew up in South Florida and listened to Ron Bennington back in the Ron and Ron days when he was on Zeta 94.9. I still think he is a fucking comedic genius and love listening to him. Fez used to also be hysterical back in the day but I agree his mental problems are grounding the show to a halt. I'm hoping he eventually retires and Ron moves either Chris Stanley or Eastside Dave into his spot.

As for why they are on the air it's pretty simple, they still have a shit ton of listeners. If you listen to the show the phones ring non stop. After Howard and O+A what other exclusive SiriusXM program has as many listeners as Ron and Fez do?

I like Chris Stanley, but Eastside Dave is a hugely entertaining trainwreck.

You have that backwards- Sirius needs Howard, not the other way around. Once Howard leaves Sirius, they'll lose a lot of their subscribers and eventually go out of business. Assuming he doesn't feel like semi-retiring and just doing a limited gig like America's Got Talent, Howard could always jump to a newer medium- most likely internet streaming/podcasting- and keep broadcasting that way to a receptive audience.

It's very tempting to use the "No, he long ago became what he once ridiculed" otion and not think any further.

In my opinion though, the interviewers of years gone by are a dying breed; in some cases that's not a bad thing.
But overall, I miss the older generation of interviewers who were either skilled at their craft in a serious way, or those with an 'alternative' approach like Stern.
Sadly, it's probably just the now semi-retired old/er generation like me who fully appreciate this - maybe not, I don't know?

But with Stern, he had a certain uniqueness which however hard they try (and some don't like him and never did so forget them), his uniqueness remains,
albeit as he ages so his take/approach alters, but those trying to emulate him, still, in the main, fail to do so.

Overall, you know quality interviewers of most types must now in short supply when networks have to resort to the likes of Piers Morgan .... :Oh crap

I agree. Howard is a fantastic interviewer. I think one reason for that has been his own star power. Celebs WANT to be on the Stern show because he does have a huge audience. So often celeb interviews suck because everything is prearranged, so they're nothing more than commercials for a movie or book. Howard could get away with asking anything because he didn't care if the celeb got pissed or not - he didn't need access to them, they needed access to him.

Yeah, the song parodies are great.

Hey Mutt, you're not the same Mutt that runs the Stern Fan Network, are you? I've been wanting to ask you that for years but never got a chance.

I did Opie and Anthony's show a few years ago with Jim Norton. HHH was on with me and I had a real blast. Opie and Anthony do get a lot of negative feedback but they were nice enough to me and Serena, the nude model who went on with me.

Jay Mohr doing Tracy Morgan on the Opie and Anthony show is one of the funny things I have ever heard in my life. Jay Mohr is funnier as Tracy Morgan then Tracy is himself.

This is the same skit he did on the show.

O & A are funny but have nothing on Howard as far as intelligence and interview skills, and the level of people he has on his show. Howard also created this genre of radio.

To answer if Howard is relevant or not. The answer is obviously yes. He has the biggest name guests on his show, he is on a mainstream tv show and he makes a boatload of money. If he was not relevant. The people that come on his show would never come on. He has all top A list actors, celebrities and musicians. This week he had ZZ Top perform which was amazing and Rod Stewart. Both music legends. I don't believe these kind of people go on Opie & Anthony but I dont listen to them enough to know.

Agreed. Plus Howard is a lot more likable, IMO.

No but I've been asked the question many times. That crowd of Stern fans scare me, it becomes their lives.

Jay Mohr has his own daily radio show on Fox Sports Radio network after years of filling in occassionaly for Jim Rome - at times he can be as funny as any comedian in the business.

i forget why but Howard hates Jay Mohr.

Thank God.

I'll never understand the people who post on the Stern Fan Network. I registered to post there but quickly realized what a shit-show it is and left. It's a massive collection of people just complaining about every little thing Stern does. From his teeth to his hair, they always find something to bitch about. Hell, they even shit all over his wife for no good reason. Those people have no lives. I don't understand the logic of posting on a fan forum just to dump all over the guy you're there for. Fans are such ingrates.
