It's upsetting because the cover of the Rolling Stone is usually reserved for pop culture icons, great artists and entertainers, and here is a fucking terrorist punk who killed innocent people and turned a city upside down getting the same treatment. Young people are shallow idiots, they're looking at him superficially as a hot/cute young guy. I hate it because if this kid had been your typical unattractive Arab looking terrorist instead of an Americanized shaggy haired lifeguard not a chance in hell the Rolling Stone puts him on the cover. It's not his story that got him the cover, it's his look and that's sad.

Che Guevara became a worldwide icon, 90% of the hippies and teenagers who have worn his image on a t-shirt have had no clue what Guevara really did.

Have you seen the t-shirts with Tsarnaev's photo yet?

At first I was like "whatever". But after your comment... You are right. They should have put a picture of his dead brother up, or better yet a picture of the kid in an orange jump suit with his wrists chained to his ankles.

Yes because they were both about playing it safe.

You should read more...

Hunter Thompson was known for not playing it safe... kinda like Larry Flynt?

Gonzo, I would have thought that you of all people would be able to detect sarcasm.

mikesouth 07-18-2013 06:05 PM

while HST nor Lester Bangs ever played safe a day in their lives probably they also wouldn't have sat still for that cover Id bet big bucks on that...theyd have excoriated RS for that specially Lester Bangs of course theyd have both disassociated themselves from that toilet paper long before now.

I don't think very many people have a problem with RS running the story about this young terrorist. We all need to understand or have some understanding why someone with a promising future in this Country could become such a evil spirited person in such a short time and attack the place that has been so good to them.

I have not read the article. I will not read the article. I have not surfed over to their site and I will not put a link to their site on any forums. I will not write their name on any article or post. I will not do anything that think will aid them now or in future.

That piece of poo being on the cover is troubling to many us and I hope this is the nail that seals the coffin of RS by people pulling their subscriptions. I believe in free speech but I also believe everyone that has a problem with him being on the cover has the right to pull their subscriptions in protest.

I won't be making 10 post here trying to reassure myself that I am taking the right stance on this issue. Go Fuck Yourself.

Are you upset that they put the Boston Bomber on the cover of Rolling Stone?

Well I love to break it to you that the whole thing was fake, and your puny tirade is worse than wrong in the grand spectrum of time.

who's on the cover then?

ReggieDurango 07-18-2013 07:53 PM

I used to think Zimmerman was guilty, but now I think he might be innocent, MorAlly. I, like so many other people in this country, rushed to judgement about Zimmerman's guilt before I really knew the facts.
I bring up this example ONLY as A comparison ToThis: people quickly forming their opinions about this Rolling Stone article. I can't believe everyone is freaking out in Boston, my hometown, about this story! no one has READ the story yet so why the f*** is everyone freaking out? The New York Times used the same picture of the guy in their publication, so what is the problem? idiots rushing to judgment, LITERALLY judging a book by its cover!

I suppose I could have put 'Government Patsie' instead of boston bomber like RS did for those that can't contextually read a whole post. But you're smarter than that.

The Real Face of Terror: Behind the Scenes Photos of the Dzhokhar Tsarnaev Manhunt

In response to the controversial Rolling Stone cover, new photos of Tsarnaev?s capture emerge.

http://cdn.bostonmagazine.com/wp-con...3_4510A_21.jpg

The Rolling Stone cover featuring the suspected Boston Marathon bomber, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev has, of course, set off a firestorm of controversy across the country. Critics believe that the cover glamorizes Tsarnaev, depicting him as a kind of rock ?n roll outlaw rather than a terrorist who has been charged with killing four people and seriously wounding hundreds of others.

Sgt. Sean Murphy, a tactical photographer with the Massachusetts State Police who has photographed the funerals of many officers killed in the line of duty, is furious with the magazine. Murphy, who also acts a liaison to the families of fallen officers, is so angered by the cover?which he says is both dangerous and insulting to the victims of the bombings?that he feels the need to counter the message that it conveys.
UPDATE: Photographer Relieved of Duty for Releasing Above Photo

Quote:

A Massachusetts State Police sergeant was relieved of duty Thursday after supplying Boston Magazine with graphic images from the capture of the Boston marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the editor of the magazine said.

Mr. Murphy told the magazine that he decided to release his images ? which show a bloodied and surrendering Mr. Tsarnaev ? after feeling angered by this month?s cover of Rolling Stone magazine, which featured a softer portrait of the alleged bomber.

In a statement he accused Rolling Stone of ?glamorizing the face of terror? and providing an incentive to others who might seek fame through similar acts. ?This is the real Boston bomber,? he said of the Mr. Tsarnaev depicted in his images. ?Not someone fluffed and buffed for the cover of Rolling Stone magazine.?

In a series of messages posted to Twitter late Thursday night, the editor of Boston Magazine, John Wolfson, said Mr. Murphy had been ?relieved of duty,? and had his gun, badge and computer taken. He has not been fired, Mr. Wolfson said, but will face a hearing next week.

So we're mad when journalists tell a story to suit their purpose, and then we're also mad when they release something that tells a story in a way that we don't want it told...

I thought we were about free speech around here? Only when it suits I suppose. :Oh crap

that sort of stuff has always blown my mind, the serial killer chicks for instance, writing love letters to them in prison, etc. i've always wondered if there's a common motivating factor to help explain the attraction.
