BTW, Mujaheddins were supplied by the States with Stingers which were used to take down Russian aircrafts and helicopters. Now try to imagine the US loses if Taliban was supplied with say... 9K38 Iglas? |

Keep in mind also that with Afghanistan and Pakistan, some areas of their country have never been controlled by the government... There is just no government forces, offices, or support for entire regions of these countries - and no law either. |

The problem is large amounts of Afghanistan aren't ruled by anyone - there is no government, no infrastructure, and no law. It doesn't really matter who is in power in the capital, because their power has never extended into the outer regions. Even when the Taliban was in power, they still didn't control the entire country - in fact, there was multiple armies facing the Taliban when they were in power. Quote:

When they gave the bay bridge contact to China, they said we couldn't do it, now the bridge is shut down because of failing welds and bolts. Our government is fucking us over, period, this is not a dem vs gop thing, it's about profit. We have more oil in the US than any of the country's in the middle east. Right now we have a weak leader, he thought things would get better because he was more tolerant to the middle east than Bush, truth is he has no balls and that's why Reagan didn't bow to foreign powers and ended the cold war, Russia has no respect for Barry, and the other middle east countries have no respect for him as well. I'm waiting to see if he declares war without congress voting on it, that's his style |

You're just bombing and hiding while Soviets were trying to change the whole country (infrastructure, med care, education etc). Feel the deference. |

Large numbers of Soviet Airborne Forces joined stationed ground troops and began to land in Kabul on December 25. On December 27, 1979, 700 Soviet troops occupied major governmental, military and media buildings in Kabul, including their primary target – the Tajbeg Presidential Palace. On December 27, 1979, the operation began at 19:00 hr., when the KGB-led Soviet Zenith Group destroyed Kabul's communications hub, paralyzing Afghan military command. At 19:15, the assault on Tajbeg Palace began; as planned, president Hafizullah Amin was killed. Simultaneously, other objectives were occupied (e.g. the Ministry of Interior at 19:15). The operation was fully complete by the morning of December 28, 1979. Then the US came to help the so called brave and helpless rebels, first by financial aid, later weapons. One of their commanders and leaders was Osama bin Laden! Should've stayed out, and maybe the twin-towers would still be there. |
