1 bitcoin will only ever be worth 1 bitcoin.

Anyone can start a cryptocurrency and many people have, however it's usefulness will only be proven once it is simple for Joe Average to use it and most people on the planet have no idea what it is and have never heard of it, much less how to use it.

Ask 10 randoms on the street if they know what Bitcoin is, I bet you'll average one in ten.

I think I have mentioned this before but bitcoin is a bit like the early internet. In 1998 no one knew html or had heard of google or facebook.
Things take time. Give bitcoin long enough and wait for people to develop new technologies. The future is bright.

I'd cough up a " bullshit" to that

The Chinese don't celebrate Christmas, and besides everyone speculating, they are currently the only people causing BTC to move. Up, down, it's all a guessing game.

i'm highly suspect of newsweek findings.

I didn't mean that I was suspect of all Bloomberg polls - I meant just that poll. That's such a high number of people that know what something is that's not in the general news all the time.

Maybe I'm underestimating my fellow Americans - but I don't believe the same 42% of those Americans who know what Bitcoins are were culled from the same pool that shows 28% of Americans can't name the US Vice President.

I would, however, believe that 42% of Americans who are subscribed to Bloomberg.com would know what a Bitcoin is.

As for Newsweek Are they still around?

i see what you're saying, it is a curious difference, i'm not sure how to account for it. i do think the poll is accurate, as far as polling goes. creating a random sample is quite scientific and best left to the experts.

but 3 people in my family have asked me about bitcoins since thanksgiving, including my mom. i reminded her i had mentioned them to her a long time ago and she couldn't have cared less at that time, now she wanted to know what all the hubbub was about!

it's all media hype. but so is politics. why the media hype over bitcoins is embraced more than the media hype of the vp is a head scratcher, perhaps people can't be bothered with politics these days, as much of a clusterfuck that is.

also, it doesn't appear that that newsweek poll was scientifically randomized, it appears it was a webpage anyone could access and answer the questions.

small bump down the road. it will get up eventually.

All currencies are traded to buggery, BTC will drop to about 380/400 over the next few days as the people that have made bank decide to sell out before Christmas. 2014 will see 3000$ a coin minimum

China didn't get on the band wagon soon enough to buy cheep, so they'll copy it, rename it, and the world will buy it...

42% are you fucking kidding me. I already did two real polls to ask if they would ever use it to pay.. well close to that and just over 300 people total took the time to pick the answer that said "what is bitcoin" and the next option had 8 people pick it.
You do the math

dyna mo 12-18-2013 10:22 PM

it's lolz watching some of y'all get antsy in the pantsy @ that 42%!

not sure why that's so disturbing to ya but it's funny :1orglaugh
