oh come on. the republican party...sped up the collapse of the soviet union. stopped saddam from invading saudi arabia (note bush sr did not invade iraq in 1991). passed budgets in the late 90s that balanced the budget. converted star wars into SDI & withdrew from the ABM treaty, so we can have shiny missiles in alaska that just sit there.

best of all, the rich are really really fucking rich now.

Someone some where must have a list of "major accomplishments" each party can claim. I can't think of any for the Republican party, but then again I can't think of any the Democrat party either.

Seems the current Congress has the lowest approval rating.... Ever. Or in a very long time.

And they both need each other so that they can keep passing election laws that make it damn near impossible for any third party candidates to ever get elected. :)

I called your failed logic early on in the thread, here:

What makes you think a third party would be any different than the two we already have? While each party does have significant differences, mostly around social reform, the system it's self is what is broken. Until big money is removed from the political spectrum and lobbying is made illegal, then Washington as a whole will continue to be broken and the same with the states.

Until then it will be the same ole same ole bickering about meaningless money spent on social programs while billions get passed along to big business with out a care in the world.

Both parties have really become the same at this point. They both do more harm than good.

Remember Obama talking about "Changing the way we do business as usual in Washington"? No more special interest $, having the people take back their voice, blah blah blah...all those people crying in the park that night thinking that he was going to come in and shake it up.

The Government (while run by these 2 parties) will ALWAYS come down to one thing. You need $ to get elected to Congress, the Senate and the WH...a shit ton of it. That $ comes from (the large chunks) special interests. These guys fundraise 24/7 starting right back up the day after they take office. Its about building a war chest to keep the seat.

I heard a guy on the news say it best....

"Everyone gets into Politics to make a difference, help people and contribute to making this country great. But the problem is after they get here, they get sucked into the money and political game that drives Washington and are forced to play in order to stay in office.
