Surely you have something to be proud of?

I have a lot of things I'm pleased with, and in all honesty a lot of things that if it were someone else, I'd say "hey, you should be proud of those things", but I'm my own worst, and extremely unforgiving, critic. I make allowances for others that I don't allow myself, I see good things in others that I don't see in myself, I see others' accomplishments and not my own, etc etc. Very unhealthy, and I'm actually a lot better than I was lol, but it is what it is... the answer is still an honest 'no' to "are you proud of yourself" overall :thumbsup

That's nice of you to say, thanks mate.

If I'm really backed into a corner, I would grudingly admit I have some good enough life experience that in turn has allowed me to be a pretty decent bloke these days, and I do *try* to help others, even though sometimes my method can be wrong when I reflect on it. It's more sharing experiences and/or perception shifts than any 'wisdom' though :thumbsup

It's called being a "perfectionist". LOL

I hear ya man but at the end of the day, YOU are the only one who can let yourself off the hook for whatever life's mistakes were made etc. If you can't be proud of yourself then it's hard to expect others to be proud of you.

Fuck man, I'M proud of you for fucking posting on GFY all these years. LOL!

I suppose that I could be proud of what I have and what I have accomplished, the things that I wanted, and the lifestyle, etc..., but mostly I just feel grateful and content, and it is 90% contentment based on my life with my wife and my son and my friends. It's the people in my life that mean the most to me, and they give me a deep feeling of appreciation and simple happiness.

Oh I get it intellectually, just a vastly different task actually feeling it :1orglaugh On my good days I'm not so harsh on myself, and really, overall, it'll be what it'll be, when it'll be. I don't beat myself up for beating myself up (which I used to do), if you get what I mean :thumbsup

crap, is English better than British? I thought being British was better (what's an English muffin then?) but it's all certainly trumped by being a londoner. that certainly explains it all more better. :winkwink:

Why? What, in your opinion, makes you proud of yourself or not?

I could have the same sort of HUGE sig myself just to worship my ego. But I won't, it does not make any sense, there is no success or failure, you're living in a made up reality.

Beating yourself up or anyone else has proven to be a lucrative business model for many people. :)

I was very proud when I was in the fire dept as a medic firefighter then divorce drove me to drink and drugs very very disappointed at myself for that, then got my life str8 went to gym was looking tight, saw my abs first time in my life then cancer struck me down. Lost everything again my house, my car, truck two boats and almost my life if that wasn't bad enough I had 3 heart attacks 4 stints placed.

Now I am back never lost my kids thank god, had custody of both my boys still do. But when I lost everything we had to move back home to mommy and now she is disabled and my sister is bed ridden with a 9 year old girl. It is hard to leave because all my money goes to their bills, food, everything they need I try to get it for them. I have to miss work at times when mom can not get out of bed. Other then that the hosting company I started is really starting to grow and do real good.

So yes I am NOW proud of myself. I lost then fought and now I am winning. One day I hope to make enough to support my mom and sister and kids and have another place for me and my boys. But it could be a whole lot worse ya know! :)

Actually yes, very much! I stumbled a few times during my 20s, and things looked a little grim at times back then, but that brought me to where I am right now, and I wouldn't change a thing about it!
Nowadays I have lots of reasons to be proud of what I have achieved: I have been with my husband for 18 years, we have a wonderful 9 year old son, we own our program which makes us almost a million a year, and we just began building the house of our dreams. We are healthy and happy and I love you guys here at GFY :) I really couldn't ask for more.

Are you trying to say none of us tell the people in our lives what we do for a living? Fuck - my parents live with me and my mom works for me doing all my payroll. So don't lump us all together .
