As long as people from Alabama have debit card. McD's is safe.

I tried 5 guys in Montreal, way to over hype and priced IMHO. McD's will remain the cheap place to bring your kids for a Happy Meal

McDonalds has responded to rising health concerns in the last 2 decades by lurching around, changing products, changing menus, changing marketing campaigns, stopped aggressively marketing to kids etc etc etc.
Most importantly, what used to be a treat is now something that for the most part, you'd be ridiculed for, had you admitted to eating there. It is has been a growing symbol of obesity and shame in America. Not the hamburger... but McDonalds itself. Thats nearly impossible to undo. From a business standpoint, they have became increasingly unfocused over the years and continue to be even more unfocused going forward. They've pretty much destroyed their identity in the last 2 decades. Like any public company, the pressure of meeting stockholder expectations with short term fixes has not kept pace with a couple decades of a changing culture. I don't see them having much of a future and I am not surprised that each new quarter is showing more and more signs of struggling. Successful businesses do exactly what they've done. They remain fanatically focused, execute flawlessly over and over and over again.. then once they've reached a certain saturation point, growth slows and stagnates and then they start lurching around trying to leverage the "power of the brand" to try new things and this always comes at the direct cost of the thing that got them there. They remind me of dunkin donuts.... now with breakfast, lunch, sandwiches, coffee etc etc etc... and have left behind the very thing that got them where they are to begin with and total failure is imminent. In the business world, it tends to take time, but their impending failure, without refocusing on their core business, is certain. |

They need to say fuck the health nuts and start marketing to kids again. They used to advertise the shit out of those happy meals. When's the last time you seen a commercial that mentioned a happy meal toy? Hell they should be running avenger related commercials 24/7 right now with some plastic piece of shit in there.
If you think I'm kidding look at what those horrible amiibo toys have done for nintendo the past year.An extra billion in revenue. |

Wouldnt bother me if every food place with a drivethru window went out of business.
|
The only thing i will eat there is the breakfast and only when it is super convenient.
just recently i almost went to a McDonalds for lunch but i noticed a grocery store across from it. We only had thirty minutes. So we bought two nice rolls some jambon ham from spain some nice cheese and some fruit juice. Cost...about the same. Time about the same. Feeling after? Way better |

The wife and I drive past McDees and go to A&W just up the road. Much better burgers and fries...the root beer is great...and they get our order right every time.

Here in Australia there profits are going down every year. They have changed there menu to more quality but they still are not making money like the 90's peoples taste have changed for better healthier foods and unless they spend mega bucks( which they can do ) everyone will still see them as unhealthy and uncool. They will survive in poor areas but they have already closing down in wealthy places.
|
Like Joshua G said. They need to go back to just making good food, at a cheap price, and fast. Not crazy big menus. Nothing fancy or expensive. Even their average burgers got pricey. They need to rework that to what made them huge. Value and speed. Leave the gourmet and healthy options to other companies. Or start up another subsidiary for that option.

McD's did well for me when I was traveling in Europe with my bf and we didn't have much money/time to spend. It saved us from starving in Oslo too :) But not in my hometown |
Big changes coming to Mickey D's.
Interesting their change in corporate / market structure from regions to market shares. Maybe that is a model for porn? 5 Ways McDonald's Will Change -- Soon |

Results? I feel like puking right NOW and am terrified of what will eventually ooze out my asshole after winding its way through my poor intestines and colon. JESUS why did I do such a thing??? McGriddles were tasty (I'm a sucker for anything maple-flavored). Pancakes were....maple-y (good) but......meh. Hash browns were good tho greasy and the "coffee"? Well, it wasn't Starbucks (or even Dunkin' Donuts) but drinkable. OK well my digestive system says THANKS GFY. I am guessing McDonald's will be out of business before I try that again. LOL |
In 1974 the cost of a single burger was 30 cents, that's 1.44 in today's money but you can still buy a burger for a dollar. They've just gotten away from being a place where Mom can take a night off from the kitchen. They should return to Burgers, Fries and Drinks.
Pizza places are in danger of trying to offer too much as well IMHO. Domino's dropped "pizza" from their name for the love of god. |

Just read that article Kawaii posted. New 'Homey' Menu Items include $4.99 burgers. In most places a pound of beef is less than $4 for consumers. Mcdonalds pays 30 cents for a pound of beef A POUND. I goto McDonalds maybe once or twice a year, the last time I was there the meat patty was so thin. The burger was all bun and I was like WTF. Then you goto local places, or places like Chipotle or Garbonzos and it's all totally healthy great food fresh chicken etc a half the price of McDonalds. It's all about the money @ McD's now they've fucked the consumer for too long I hope they rot in hell.

For $4 I can make 4 burgers/next to no fat/from Oz or Canada or JP/ grilled toppings etc...at home. IN a very short time. I think one of their main strategies may prove to be home delivery though. Pink slime delivered to your door. Beats gettin outta the bark-o-lounger, I guess. They are closing 100 stores in Japan. Not surprised the country is not on their list of developing markets. Shake Shack is coming though. They should rock this place if they deliver their burgers NYC style. |

Few years ago i eat for the last time in a McDonald's and i have no regret. The only healthy product they sell is water.

Like I said, in 1974 a plain burger cost 30 cents, that's $1.44 in today's money, but you can buy a plain burger from their value menu today for only $1. So if you're saying that they have gotten away from low prices, welp... no. You can eat there for less money today than you could in 1974. Might be hard to swallow, but math is heartless.

McDonalds will still be around. While sales and profits are down, they aren't in danger of going away overnight. Even their lower profits are still better than most company's best profits.
They just need a new CEO with some fresh ideas that can scale down their menu and something that needs to be wo0rked on and has been touched on in this thread already: they need to fix their customer service. The occasional wrong order will happen, but grumpy employees, slooooooooooooow service and driving to 3 different windows is stupid. If I have to order at one window, pay at an other and pick up my food at a third, it makes it slower, not faster. |
