Nope. It's not just a simple buffet and it has nothing to do with yours in casino (at least those I've seen in Vegas). The main difference with your buffet is the assortment and quality of products. These are not just salads, but hot food as well (various potato meals, meat meals, fish meals, soups and kashas).

This is a real restaurant with waiters etc. But it's also a fast food too. In traditional Russian "трактир" all food is already cooked, so you don't have to wait for it, and if you're in hurry, you can pay once and eat everything immediately (as much as you want). If you have more time, you can spend it in the bar. If you want to eat capitally, you'll be served by waiters and the food will be cooked specially for you (the assortment will be much wider of course). And course you can mix all 3 ways of the food consumption - everything depends on your free time and wallet size :) You can choose a smorgasbord and order a beer/vine/vodka/wherever from a waiter. No lines like in crustyburgers, no noise, no people constantly walking back and forth, no smell of puke like in KFC etc...

Not entirely. What he's showing we have in PL too, it's called a Karczma here - which loosely translates to "Inn" except that they don't always have a hotel. They aren't so much found downtown in big cities as they are on roadsides between cities in the country. It's a bit of an unfair comparison as RU still obviously has regular fast food places like McDonalds and so forth but this style of Inn (where granted it's healthier and you do get your food fast although not "fast food") but i've never seen anything like that in the US or Canada. Definately limited to slavic nations.

It's a cultural thing. I was at a mall here and they were doing some presentation of american football. Everyone ignored it, no one was watching, it was one fo the saddest things i've ever seen. Guy on a stage, speaking in a mic, some guys running around in front of him in full gear. It was just straight up sad :1orglaugh

You can see all 3 components there: a tea bar (in modern version tea in bars was replaced by beer :)), a smorgasbord with ready food and waiters for a personal service. Almost nothing changed for the centuries.

Not in Russia. Here they are mostly in big cities and those are huge networks like "Елки-Палки", "Тарас Булба" etc. For example, I have one in 5 minutes of walking near my home.

They don't really have francahises of them - there was one called "Polski Jadło" or something like that that had some 20 locations but they ended up going under. Overall good, cheap, fast food and I agree - better then mcdonalds - but you can't argue that there is not traditional "fastfood" like burgers, fries, and other unhealthy stuff in at least larger russian cities, and you can't argue that russians don't eat it occasionally, even if at a mall or on the way home from a bar at 2am.

Fast food is a place where you can be served fast. I wouldn't call burger a fast food. It takes a rather long time to make it for you in a real restaurant (not faster than a soup for example). I mean you can order a burger in some good German or Irish pub. It will take a some time, but you'll get a real burger - not some nasty and stinky fast food shit from mcdonalds, burger king or any other similar place.

Where do we eat during the lunch break then? :) Only in places like those which provide business lunches. Actually almost all restaurants here (even the expensive ones) have cheap business lunch menus.

Not of course. But out national food is definitely much better than the one you are used to eat in crustyburgers. Actually here you can choose any kind of national kitchen. E.g. French, Italian, Chinese, Japanese, Brazilian, Mexican, Irish, German or anything else. So normal people here are REALLY don't eat shit in macdonalds, kfc or burger king. First of all, Russian per capita is counted in rubles and it is not tied to USD, UK Pounds or anything else. The currency rate may change. It's very strange what such an uneducated person like you is doing at the business board. Now let me show you the reality.

The average official salary (which is usually just a part of income) in Russia is 30,620 rubles. In Moscow 2x times higher, of course. Looks like not too much if converted to dollars (after the recent inflation of ruble), right? But the prices here are also in rubles, and they almost haven't changed (generally less than 10%).

So even an average Russian citizen who lives for the official salary only (I don't know any of those actually :)) and earns those 30,620 rubles a month, can easily spend 6,000 rubles for healthy organic daily lunches during a whole working month.

Also don't forget that...

1. All taxes and pension funds are already subtracted from that average official salary figures (what's your tax rate?)
2. We don't pay for medicine here and our medical insurance is 100% free (how much your family pays for Obamacare?)
3. We don't pay for the education of our children (how many you will pay for a good college/university education)?
4. Our utility bills (prices on water, gas, electricity, heating etc) are lower than in the USA (wanna compare?)

I'm sure you are right and you have a lot of real good ones. For example, I liked some family Italian restaurant in Santa Monica (just about 10 minutest of walking from the pier). But it was not a fast food network. It was some very small and I'd say very quite and private place.

So the difference is that I've showed the large network ones (mainstream for any tourist), but not some very private places which you won't find if you don't live here.
