When the police raid a pornographer, they do it the same way they raid everyone. Gather at the police station before dawn, arrive before the sun is up, and break the door down with a battering ram. Then rush through the house calling in loud voices that the police are here and calling out the name of the suspect. In this case mine.

You've seen it on TV, it's just like that except scarier when it's your doors they are knocking down.

They need little excuse to get a search warrant, a tip-off from a disgruntled boyfriend because his girlfriend fucked me is more than enough. If your place of business is elsewhere, they will have two search warrants. This exposes the BS that was going around when they changed 2257. Yes, they had the power, just not enough time to run around checking to see if people had their paperwork right. If they suspect a producer of shooting underage girls, they get a search warrant that gives them powers to go through everything.

Lawyers and people in the business will say they can, the truth is they don't unless they really want to and then there has to be evidence, which is what's needed for a search warrant.

So they're in and shouting for me to reveal myself. I've been woken by the commotion, completely dis orientated and going out to meet them. I sleep nude ad not going to put anything on. They usually turned up with a female officer and ask me to put some clothes on. The search warrant is shown and then they start doing te hard stuff. They know everything, know what I've been doing, been watching me and going to rip the place apart so they find everything. So I might as well lead them to what they're looking for, to save time.

You may have noticed they haven't said what I'm supposed to be guilty of or what they're looking for.

The police's tactics are to dominate the situation, to hopefully get the subject to confess. the problem for them with me was, I had nothing to confess to. My models were old enough, they weren't doing anything that would be deemed as obscene and I knew what they were up to.

So I showed them my documents, linked them to the models and let them figure it out for themselves. Their problem was now justifying the search warrant and time wasted on an early morning raid.

So they bag up everything possible, even my first computer with the list of sales, mailing list, money spent, money banked, money that arrived in cash had a habit of not being entered into the computer. :winkwink:

Then they take it all away saying they will examine it and waste more time and money looking for something that didn't exist. This once caused a minor problem, when it came to my tax returns. All that was available was what the bank could provide and the last couple of months when I was rebuilding the mailing lists. Which showed a minimal profit so I paid no taxes that year.

There were raids that do come back to me. One for CP another being arrest for rape and the last one for selling unlicensed videos.

Most raids were just to check me out and let me know they knew what I was doing. This one got very serious.

5.00 in the morning and model and I are sleeping souldly. When a huge bang on the door and it flying open, wake us. Men start shouting "Paul Markham it's the Police". I turn to the model tell her it's OK and she's to stay in bed while I sort it out.

I walk naked out of my bedroom to be confronted with 10 cops, 2 of whom are women, and the lead cop saying "This is a raid." As if I'm thinking they came to delliver my morning coffee. They tell me to get dressed and follow me into my bedroom, where Lucy is still in bed.

They present me with the search warrant which states they're looking for CP. And so they proceed to go through everything. This raid is different. Most of them they bag everything including documents, this time they're reading model releases, looking at IDs, slides and photos. Going through every possible hiding place room by room.

Of the 10, 1 is clearly in charge and playing bad cop to the ful. He says he knows what I'm doing and he will tear the walls down until he finds it. 8 more are under his command and doing as they're told. There's 1 guy, older than the rest, at the back observing everything.

Especially me telling him he's never going to find anything illegal. Because I hate pedos.

Eventually they go into a room where I was shooting Lucy the previous day. Camera on tripod, mike stand and monitor. What's this screams bad cop. I grimace as if I've been caught and he smiles like a cat who just caught a mouse.

"It's a video of me fucking a little girl." His smile gets even bigger. "Show us." So I turn on the camera and monitor, rewind the film and hit play. I keep the glum face. The 10 cops including the two girls huddle round.

To see me banging the life out of Lucy.

My time in a police cell.

The week before had been pretty normal. This was during the days of my mail order video business. We had a large mailing to do of 5,000 customers on our database. And still had all the orders to get out, still interview potential models and all the other chores. So when a pretty girl asked if she could earn a few GBP on the day of her casting I said yes, her and I set about folding the brochures, stuffing them into envelopes, putting the address label on and a stamp. Then stuffing them into a sack.

Then a few days later 5.00 in the morning the front door is crashed open, 4 coppers are screaming my name and running up te stairs to get me out of bed. I'm told to put clothes on, handcuffed and charged with raping the girl I spent the day with and paid to have sex with. You've seen it in the movies it's just like that.

When we get to the police station I'm asked if I want a lawyer and I say yes. So they bundle me into a cell. That was their mistake it gave me time to think. I knew who my accuser was and knew this was bullshit. Maybe down the line, he would be asking for a lot more to drop the charges. Still had the situation of locked up in a police cell.

Coffee is brought, breakfast later, then tea, finally I'm taken to be interviewed.

I chat with the duty lawyer and tell him my story, then the detectives come in and start playing bad cop and asshole cop. They have it all, I forced her to do this, that, and the other, I was a pig, I abused her trust, I was going away for a very long time unless I made a statement confessing my guilt and relieving this poor girl from being a victim again in the witness box. You've seen it on TV, I've been there, seen that and nearly got the T-Shirt.

As they came at me over and over again I said that it's a lie, I paid her and she was happy to fuck me. And the video I had would prove it.

This through them because they had no knowledge of a video. They had the roll of film I had taken pictures of her on, but no video and she hadn't mentioned a video being shot. I told them the video was on top of the cupboard and running while I was photographing, fucking and paying her. It was covered with a cloth to make it look inconspicuous. But I still had the two hours fully recorded. They wanted to see the video and I explained about the phone calls and why I thought it prudent to put it somewhere safe. Where it was going to remain. Until the trial.

This threw them off their line so I went back to the cell and they went back to the girl.

Four hours later I'm wheeled out of the cell, told all charges have been dropped as the girl wasn't willing to go forward with the case. They had seen the pictures I took and said it would have been hard to get a conviction. She was happy, smiling both ends, soaking wet and ready. She had told them I had forced her to pose nude. So all charges dropped.

As the lawyer and I walked out he said it was clever to have the video and I said. "What video?". "You mean there is no video?" he replies. "None at all." says I. "But she doesn't know that and neither do those two. So I'm going home."

After that day, there was always a video running when I fucked the girls after a shoot. Ethics and my morals forbid me from publishing them.

Mail order videos are going great, mostly solo girl with a few G/G scenes in amongst them. It happened 5 times while I was in the UK. They only found something incriminating once, the last time and I will write about it soon.

The last and final time I got raided was in 1997. I was publishing videos without a BBFC license which I wouldn't have got because they were open leg videos. I had a good run of 10 years, made a lot of money and invested and saved a lot. Except for holidays to America and Thailand, I lived a simple life. All I owed was a small mortgage.

I knew the risk and accepted it. Still pissed off when it happened. Usual routine, the doorbell rings 5 o'clock in the morning, on answering the intercom I learn it's the police with a warrant, no surprise there. But on letting them in, it's two policemen and 6 or 7 from the local council's Trading Standards with a warrant stating I'm breaking the BBFC's licensing laws and selling unlicensed videos.

So I read the warrant and it's only to do with my mail order business and I direct them to my office and tell them to take what they need. They were surprised I employed people, on the books, paid taxes including VAT and how well I kept my books.

The two coppers and I went to the kitchen for coffee and they said they had better things to do than back up these clowns on worthless raids and they knew all about me for the decades I had been in business. I started selling photosets in 1977.

I phoned my lawyer, made an appointment and when the staff turned up I told them it was all over and I no longer needed them. The lawyer recommended I stayed out of the video mail order business as the courts wouldn't take to kindly to me ignoring them. So for two years, I had to rely on magazine shoots, sales to DVD companies and sales to a growing but hard to find Internet industry.

So in 1997, I needed a new income stream to supplement the lost mail-order video business.

The DVD market in Europe was an option, but the quality of girls we found in the UK meant that very little was getting shot except for Amateur Gonzo style. So I shot a few of those. America wanted high production glam style, it already had more than good Gonzo style producers. Still it made me some money and I took it on but never got into it in a big way.

The Internet was alive and I was selling to a few clients. But it was very slow and a lot were on dial-up. I found a few agents via friends at APIC an organisation for chasing down pirates. I had a copy of all the DMCAs it sent out and obviously emailed all of them with an offer of doing legit business. The majority didn't bother replying and those that did said they could easily steal rather than buy. But I picked up a few. I also emailed all the sites I could find but I made a mistake. I don't know when the first Search Engine appeared so all I had to go on was Newsgroups. Again the attitude from most was they could get it for free. Though some did buy.

What I did find was people who told me I could make my fortune if I gave them images and they did a revshare deal. So I tried a few and to a man, they came back with very little or/and stories or how they needed more of my images to make the big money they promised. I wasn't fooled twice by that BS. The problem was I couldn't meet them face to face.

When I did I could see they were bullshitting me. One such person who had a site link list and was making big bucks, but not dressed the part. So after listening to all his promises, I asked him for a lift to the shops. His car was a third-hand banger and resembled the way he dressed. Poor. A second one claimed he was making huge money online with his upskirt videos, he rented a council house and didn't strike me as someone making huge money. But I gave him some content of a revshare deal, he had nothing but excuses for why I wasn't making big money and wanted more content for free or revshare which meant free to really open up the floodgates.

What none of them could answer was why when they make so little, do they want more or even to carry on? Except to say more for free meant a bigger presence. This was when sites contained very little content.

This is why since those early days, I've been very wary of people who can't afford to pay for the content they wanted.

It wasn't until I got to Czech that I discovered hahahahahahaha and the world of forums.

So for two years, I have to rely on the girls I can find in the UK who are good enough for magazine work. That's a lot slimmer pickings than those good enough for videos.

On a side note, I found British girls hornier than Czech girls or should I say more liberated.
They were willing to do most things solo or girl/girl and more than willing. Czech girls, we both found to be more reserved and at first either very reluctant or just didn't put the same effort into doing video. But being better looking they were perfect for Images for magazine sets.

There's very little to tell you about those two years it was just a job, find a good looking girl. Shoot her for two to 10 + sets and then move onto the next. I would find girls like Isabella who was drop-dead gorgeous, fun, intelligent and we dated for a while. She was desperate to try it with a girl and at the time I knew no Bi girls who I could use for a set or sets with her. So tried out 3 others and hoped. Nothing happened. Then I meet Eva and she wanted to do Girl/Girl phoned Isabella, the wrong week. So we wait till next week, then it;'s Eva's wrong week. That was when Isabella was scheduled to fly home. :(

These weren't circumstances exclusive to me. We all had the same problem and why so many British Photographers took off to Eastern Europe. Viv Thomas, Steve Colby, Jack Harrison, Dave Anthony, Tim Turner, etc. There were more but I've forgotten their names.

The supply of models good looking enough to seel to all the markets in England controlled our income. We also had the problem of girls that had too much work shot of them at one time. I was shooting brand new girls so never had this problem. Editors would complain that a girl had worked for 4-6 photographers and they all submitted her over a short period of time. So we moved out too far more fertile fields. Mainly Hungary and Czech but I knew Score were shooting in Poland very big tit girls.

Smaller population than the UK, but far more beautiful girls.

Early 1996 the BBFC turned my life upside down. Late in 1997, my life got turned over again. It was October and I was looking forward to Christmas/New Year in the States with family when the doorbell rang and I met a cute young Czech girl. She was 20 I was 47.

She had come for a casting and I was immediately struck by how cheeky she was, so I made her a cup of tea. We got chatting and I discovered she was doing this work to raise enough money to go home and with a bit of money in her pocket. I've seen the business go from respecting the product, the people who bought it to a business that's main concern is driving traffic to sell ad space.

A business where I sold sample tapes in there 1,000s for $8 to one where there's more on a major tube that any pornsite.

Eva had returned, we had fallen deeper in love and I proposed. We married less than a year of meeting. My pals inthe business thought Eva had done it to get a Visa, I had done it for the sex. My family thought I was making another mistake. Eva was my third wife. I did get nervous on the big day. We moved to Czech less than 3 months later. 20+ years later we're still in love.

Back to creating porn.

We had good contacts for finding models in Brno, so chose there over Prague. We advertised in the local and national papers with something like this.


The phone rang about three times a day and nearly all the girls turned up. The response was amazing. Anyone who knows Czech girls knows the quality was high much higher than the UK.

Models, M/U, film, location, etc costs about $500 to $1,000 a day so shooting 20 sets a month, with 6 months before payment (if accepted) soon put pressure on our accounts. But the minimum we could earn on a set was $1,000 and the maximum $8,000, with first rights in the US and UK and various European countries and some sales in AU or Japan. Then second rights.

I had a great relationship with my bank manager who allowed me an overdraft so we could continue working. Soon magazines like Escort, Razzle, Fiesta, New Talent, etc soon were full of my sets. Editors liked the fresh girls, never to be repeated models, smiling faces we were getting. America followed afterwards, more magazines, longer publication time.

And by now I knew every pose the magazines and readers wanted for the different publications.
