Nice sale, but the price is obviously bullshit. They always inflate the price to keep/inflate the value of their other domains.

".... for just $920 in 1997 and that over the years leading up to the sale the name had produced around $150,000 in revenue for him"

So the domain makes $7500 per year in typein traffic and sells for over $1 million, it obviously doesn't add up. The domain itself is okay, but if you have 1.4 million you can get much better brandable domains for less and spend the rest on branding and traffic.

Lykos 11-25-2016 01:55 AM

Congrats man, that's amazing deal ! :thumbsup

Insanity.

As long as there's no 4 in the domain name these are super premium in China. Imagine being able to acquire a domain that's XXX and pronouncable in both Asia and the rest of the world.

This is huge. I bet if 888.com was available and not a gambling site if they wanted to sell they could get easily 10 M for the domain name itself from the Chinese.

adultchatpay 11-25-2016 02:27 AM

I wish it was early 90's again. I will register sex.com, pussy.com, milf.com, gay.com, hotels.com and many others.

And in 10 years from now you will say I wish it was 2016 again and I would have done this and this and this ;)

Horatio Caine 11-25-2016 02:46 AM

LOL. I smell bullshit.

Paul Markham 11-25-2016 02:52 AM

Will it end up as a Tube site?

For that kind of money, I suspect so.

Most of the other domains are lacklustre and in markets already saturated.

slavdogg 11-25-2016 03:52 AM

I can only speak to reported facts.
Rick's reported sales and DNJ reporting are 100% accurate.
Neither one is in the biz of reporting bullshit.

XXXvideos.com is no doubt valuable, even if current use is not the most optimal.

Porno.com past revenue is legit too. In the early days this traffic was worth around $200 CPM.

romeo22 11-25-2016 04:12 AM

What a nice price.Who said there's no money in the porn

bns666 11-25-2016 04:29 AM

how do you return $1.4M investment in domain name in 2016?

mopek1 11-25-2016 04:47 AM

24. Mikihouse.com $224,224 ??

NemesisEnforcer 11-25-2016 04:54 AM

What's the asking price for ass.com?

of course its not worth that much but it comes down to, a guy like rick has no need to accept 'what its worth'. he can throw any price out there, take it or leave it. for whatever reason the buyer wanted it bad enough to pony up the cash. i don't see why people are so surprised.

pimpmaster9000 11-25-2016 05:48 AM

"I have 8.888.888$ to burn I think I will buy porno.com and re-direct it to legalporno.com" said nobody ever...

bns666 11-25-2016 06:21 AM

yeah buying milion dollar domains and redirecting them sounds like an idea which every smart businessman would do :thumbsup

:1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh

That has to be one of the biggest fucking moronic stories I've read tonight.

These are all propaganda bullshit reports made by domain brokers, aimed at losers to get them to buy domain names.

There is NO FUCKING WAY IN A MILLION YEARS xxxvideos.com sold for a million bucks.

:1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh

You people are toooo gullible and believe everything you read.

Adult domain names today are worthless.

Here, you think this domain is worth over a million???

Here are the stats: Xxxvideos.com Traffic, Demographics and Competitors - Alexa

Most popular in Indonesia... and we all know those Indonesians love to buy porn!

:1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh

I think if some poor sucker bought it for $1,000 that would be a killing.

poncabare 11-25-2016 06:55 AM

Slav, I'm sure at this very moment Rick is stressing over how to justify his actions and price gotten, to all the detractors here :2 cents::helpme

VRPdommy 11-25-2016 07:45 AM

BS or not, 3DVRPorn I've been holding for almost 6 years is not leaving my hands for 'much less'. Yes, right now it has less provable value but that is the trick, buy cheap today what should have traffic/seo value tomorrow.
While I was buying names 'like this', it was not on many folks radar.

As many have said, revenue is not what it was for parking, but what is unreal traffic worth to you if you can make a hefty profit from a more worldwide audience than it was 15 years ago.
Extreme traffic has value. Easy SEO has value. How much do you pay for traffic per visit now ? Just do the math.
Pay me now, or pay me latter.

But I think his reasoning for selling it now is just the fact that it has been a depreciating asset for a few years now for revenue.
You would never sell a appreciating asset so cheap.

All is fair in love and war and the beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

cybermike 11-25-2016 08:04 AM

Ill take only 200k for xxxvideosfan.com lol

What's hilarious is all the Bros jumping in and claiming how these deals are all legit.

Anyone who's got at least 2 brain cells can see that it's all wishful thinking bullshit.

Hah I did not know about the Chinese numbers thing but makes sense. Wish I had registered 1234567.com :thumbsup

Let's not overlook the possibility here that the buyer had some - ahem - questionable revenue - he had to turn legitimate, shall we say? I know of Italian moguls and Arab sheiks who drop 200k for a 'private' video shoot with pornstars over a party weekend that will never see the light of day. These days, some people have more money than they know what to do with. :)

BlackCrayon 11-25-2016 01:59 PM

jealousy is a bitch.

pimpmaster9000 11-25-2016 07:00 PM

If xxxvideos.com was on sale right now who here would pay 100k for it? (Crickets) (crickets listening to crickets) (crickets listening to recordings of crickets listening to crickets) (cricket inception)

Nobody you say?

money biz 11-25-2016 07:15 PM

I used to own a bunch of typos for it and let them all drop. I doubt he sold it for that much $$

row_adrian 11-25-2016 07:21 PM

Huge ammount of money just for moving it!

its either a money launder or an inflated tax deduct but no way did anybody pay 1.4mil or any mil for a vanity domain name...I am not being jelly, not trying to diss rick schwarz...just pointing out that the xxxvideos.com domain name aint worth more than 5-10K realistically...out of 100 gtld-s xxxvideos is free to reg in 61...I did not bother checking the others I just did a bulk search...it is just the way it is, not my opinion but common sense...

mopek1 11-26-2016 07:09 AM

Has sex.com made it's $14 million back? Or whatever it sold for..

I know.

I would understand use of the word 'Mickey' as in the Disney Mickey but Miki?

Actually, even if you registered MickeyHouse as in the House of Mouse you'd likely be sued and prevented form using it anyway.

bns666 11-26-2016 09:25 AM

also if it was a private sale and buyer wanted to remain undisclosed, last thing he needed was an ex-owner bragging about sale and price on the industry sites.

gnawledge 11-26-2016 10:10 AM

It's not like it was xxxvideos dot club or dot top. It's a .com probably purchased with disposable income.

Mickey is a common name.

You'd be fine, unless you used it for some cartoon themed website about mice.

Speigelau 11-26-2016 09:29 PM

Why don't you email [email protected] and ask him how much he paid for the domain. I'll be curious what he says.

The price does sound like bs, but I've learned over the years that a domain is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it and there's usually at least 1 sucker out there willing to pay 10 times value, just gotta find him. I've also learned not to underestimate Rick's ability to market his portfolio and find that sucker.
