It can work both ways obviously. Finding an offer that converts on a given source is easier thou than finding traffic that would convert on a specific offer. But there is no reason for it not to work either way.

Take any site in the world, let's say some general tube : traffic will come from many GEOs, on many devices, some wifi, some carrier traffic, each visitor will load several pages and see multiple ads... and you think it's so easy to optimize all of this? It requires dozens of offers, deep analysis etc ... that's why it's often better to sell the spots to an ad network and let the media buyers do their work :)

Pretty much all traffic networks are using an auction model, people bid for the traffic ... do you think they buy it because they love to loose money? Sure there are newbies who are loosing money on it and there are some $ wasted on testing, but in the end, every traffic selling place can make you money.

Just buy any service, and start checking incoming IP's. You will know EXACTLY what I'm writing about. The bots are so sophisticated now, they even can click on a link on your page, to simulate a surfer. I know, I've tested 6 major brokers. I'd place a super tiny invisible link on a TGP, where the pics had no links, and the bots would hit the super tiny link every time. I've even replaced the banner image with a total blank and would still get hits!! All bot hits.

These fucking crooked ass traffic brokers should all be indicted and tossed in prison.

Are there bots? Of course there are, but the fact is already factored in the price, keep in mind it's all auction based.

Let's say I'm paying 10 cents CPM now for banner traffic, with all the bots in the mix. If all bots went away, all that would happen is that the price would rise to 20 cents CPM.

Bots are just an annoyance, because they fuck up the optimization process, but that's something any media buyer has to learn to live with.

Some sources are taking it too far obviously, when there is too many bots, there is not much you can do, but such sources are shortlived usually. I'm also not happy about the fact that traffic sources know about it and tolerate it.

But saying that all traffic that's being sold is crap and you cannot make money from it ... it's nonsense. I'm buying multiple $1000s worth of adult traffic daily, and I can assure you I'm not making it for fun.

Tolerate it?? The sources are the ones installing it. They stuff bots into every program and it's to the point now where even you, are "accepting it as part of the norm." They all have their loopholes, and pre written responses to anybody that catches them selling bot traffic. They've been running the game since the internet started. It's unregulated and corrupt to the core. It's the biggest con online to date.

Well, it's not part of the norm, and it's felony fraud on a grand scale. One day, somebody with balls and money will hire some lawyers and sue the shit out of these online traffic broker thieves. They have deep pockets so I'm surprised nobody has come forward to put an end to the mass corruption.

All traffic companies have bot traffic. Anyone that's says they don't is flat out lying. However, If you don't buy on RON and only build a whitelist of trusted pubs there is still good traffic out there. If a rep is decent at his or her job they will help you build a white list for you. However it's going to cost you a lot more per impression than RON obviously. In the long run it will be worth it. Anymore selling tier 1 pop traffic under $2cpm you will be getting nothing but shit traffic.
