How are you supposed to discuss the topic with anybody that seriously believes that? The 97% figure is a bogus claim based off of a bogus study and there is no proof of the supposed other 3% being on oil company payrolls.
Any debate is a non-starter for people like him because he has been force-fed the propaganda and he accepts it without question.

First, I don't want to have a debate. I want to have a discussion. However, you make a good point, for everyone. Before anyone can talk about the issue, every has to at least agree on some common ground. If I say that the atmosphere contains oxygen because NASA says so and someone else won't trust that statement because it came from Nasa, then the discussion is already dead in the water.
