the crime rate went down because they banned all carrying of guns, except if you can prove that your life is in danger...this had an indirect effect that criminals could not have buddies with them who had a gun license and carried guns "just in case"...also not only criminals commit crime...drunk guys with guns was a bad idea...not that we had any shooting problems like in the USA...mostly drunk people shooting in the air...also as pointed out, less legal guns were around so less guns made it underground...also gun tax...so people turned in their guns to avoid tax...also 10+ separate evens where citizens could turn in their illegal guns with no fear from the law...just bring the dismantled gun in a station and nobody would give you any shit...

the streets are much a safer now...I have 2 licenses for 2 guns they are in a safe at my dads I am too lazy to go get them...I have 0 need because the streets are completely safe...

Here is a personal example. I'm not a sniper (no way), but I need about 3 single 7.62mm rounds to put down a full growth target from 350 meters with AK47 equipped with a standard sighting bar. Now tell me, is it possible to do that in automatic mode? No, you will kill just everybody near it. So the same question again: what a psycho needs to have an automatic assault riffle in the city? What for? For hunting? For a self protection? Aha..

In Russia one license gives a right to buy two firearms (e.g. one shotgun and one semi-automatic riffle). Personally I have zero licenses and zero guns because I don't live in Brooklyn, Chicago or LA and I feel no danger on the streets here just like you. The criminal situation in Moscow is about the same as in Berlin. I have one 4.5mm PM-based gun and AK105-based riffle, but they are intended for sport purposes only and they don't need any licenses. I bought them to shoot beer bottles in the woods... when I've dried them with my fiends :)

The US ATF won't just hand out licenses to own fully automatic weapons to people that are not controlled and licensed firearms dealers, selling military weapons to governments, just because the buyer offers up cash for a license. That is a ludicrous assertion -- brain dead.

99.99% probability those fully automatic weapons came from an illicit source; or were stolen (and unreported), from the police, or US or some foreign military -- then later resold on the black market.

As far as I know, the model and manufacturer of the firearms have not been revealed in the media as of yet. That is interesting as they like to offer some detailed 'proof' usually -- maybe it is just too early ... this could be too. I just read a story citing 19 various firearms found in the shooter's room -- a story that sounds rather bizarre -- no reference to the makes or models.

This shooter was either a full blown psycho or these stories are embellished or outright lies. IDK but this just seems too strange to be true ...
