Thommy,
Your logic here is circular: because you believe the expression "to bear arms" to have only a collective, military meaning, you dismiss contrary examples. There is no analysis of variation in usage supporting your contention that such examples are erroneous or idiosyncratic. The statement that gun haters quote from Gary Wills, that "one does not bear arms against a rabbit", is irrelevant. The reason one does not "bear arms against a rabbit" is that "against" implies hostile action, but one does not normally consider rabbits to be the enemy, even if one is hunting them for their food and skin. If, in a postapocalyptic world, we were threatened by three meter tall intelligent carnivorous rabbits, we certainly might bear arms against them. A person who hunts rabbits as they are today cannot be said to bear arms against rabbits, but he or she may indeed be said to bear arms during the hunt. |

Now I hate to shock you "dude" but this is how many, many non-gun owners feel about gun owners. Maybe not the kind who have a firearm for protection or a shotgun for hunting. You know the kind of gun owners I mean. The kind that go to gun shows, wear Army fatigues, have 50+ guns (and wish they had a thousand). The NUTS. Guns make you feel powerful. I've fired guns (at ranges). I am not the first to point this out. But gun "enthusiasts" (we shall call them) are WAY too sensitive about the entire gun issue. Why is that? Because they know deep down (as I suspect you do too) that owning all those bang bang toys is fucked up. |

Laws are in place to provide a framework for society regarding what is, and is not acceptable behaviour. Laws provide a recourse against those that break the rules. Laws very rarely completely remove the issue from society. |

but they will NEVER do that because they know already how it will come out. and this says already all about the freedom and the "will of the american citizens" just another banana republic |
