During a mass shooting the majority of the carnage is done in the first two minutes. By the time this system is activated and the by time the police know there is a problem we have a dozen dead kids on the ground.
These solutions only attempt to limit the damage after the shooting as already begun. This is wrong. The goal should be to prevent this from happening in the first place.

Of course, the goal is to keep this from happening in the first place, but that is likely something that can't be 100% effective. I would hope we eventually pass better background checks and take steps to keep mentally ill people away from guns, but even at our best, I don't think we could stop it completely. I see this is a pretty decent option for a "just in case" situation. Maybe it won't work, but maybe it will and if it saves a few lives or prevents even one shooting it is worth the effort and money.
