Open Windows Command Prompt
type Quote:
/F = force deletion /Q = force deletion of read only files /S = all subdirectories and files If your file path has spaces, then use quote marks at the beginning and end of the file path. If RD doesn't work, then try using RMDIR instread of RD. |
Thankyou. For <full folder path> how exactly would I format it? Bear in mind I have not been on a PC for over 10 years, so I forget exactly how things should 'look'...
Would it be Code:
"C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\CodemastersSoftwareCompan.DiRTRally2.0Windows_1.129.1631.0_x64__4cfye3zbe1gaw" Specifically (Imagine me copy pasting this next bit...) Code:
RD /F /Q /S "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\CodemastersSoftwareCompan.DiRTRally2.0Windows_1.129.1631.0_x64__4cfye3zbe1gaw" |
Would this be a similar yet more effective way? He says to use the short filename, not the long one? |

There is an uninstaller app that solves this issue. I used it on a machine that had multiple similar issues...
I'll be buggered if I can remember what it is called..... |

Same using your way without the F, both as admin in cmd window and normal, and the same both ways (admin and not admin) in the short name version and navigating to it... |
Thanks for trying to help though :)

Try with a baseball bat . . .

Do you have WinRAR? Right click the folder, click add to archive, when the "Archive name and parameters" window pops up under archiving options check "Delete files after archiving", click OK. Works for me every time...

That's the result winwar gave me, copied to clipboard... Basically it said it "Cannot be deleted"... :( |
Well I've learnt one important lesson. Don't rely on backups !
I connected the drive that I had an image of C on from a few days ago, direct to the motherboard and tried to boot from it - No chance - System just hung... So, I am just gonna chalk this one up to experience and be double careful from now on where anything gets installed ! |

So then I even raised ALL my privileges in ubuntu to give me maximum control to do whatever the fuck I want with it - Read / Write / Delete / Set it on fire etc, etc etc... https://i.imgur.com/TdIBvHp.jpg It still dont wanna play nice - That's it - I give up !!! Thanks guys - I'm out X |
I don't know if you already did a web search. You could try some programs dedicated to this problem. If this doesn't work try the first solution.

Why don't you try WinPE 10-8 Sergei Strelec, usb bootable, it could do the trick!
|
Thanks to both of you above, but like I said 'I'm out'...
I've already wasted enough time and messing about on this. I intended to carry on putting stuff on the 'D' drive, then I'm just gonna re-install windows on C and start again. Probably do it at the weekend if I get the time :) |
It seems strange you can't do it in linux. Maybe it literally can't because the file or even the drive is somehow corrupt?..
Anyway, I would start again and count it as a learning experience. I bet you learnt more about windows OS file system in the past week than you ever wanted to!.. |
