i don't mean spend all day long searching for dimes on the ground, but say you're walking down the street and you just watch the ground and see a dime... yeah.. its not gonna hurt... money is money, what if you had $50 in your pocket and were walking down the street, and saw a dime, didn't care, kept walking, and then had to pay for something and it came out to be $50.10? oh damn, i don't have an extra dime... fuck...

Magix 09-05-2006 12:22 PM

yes, i think so :)

jasonir 09-05-2006 12:23 PM

I have been known to throw several dollars of change in the trash.

It takes more time sorting it than it's worth.

I know a guy that's in a wheelchair for the rest of his life because of that. Totally not worth it.

andrej_NDC 09-05-2006 12:51 PM

Sure, why not double the daily income.

There are people who had a deadly accident in the shower, but I still take a shower everyday.

Doctor Dre 09-05-2006 12:55 PM

I guess I'm lazy... but no

KrisKross 09-05-2006 07:14 PM

Say it takes you 5 seconds to pick up a dime. That's $1.20 a minute and $72 an hour. I'd say that's worth it.

selena 09-05-2006 07:21 PM

Hell yes I would bend over to pick up a dime.

MaddCaz 09-05-2006 07:37 PM

goddamn right I would

Vitasoy 09-05-2006 07:48 PM

This local tattoo shop did that out side of there front door with a bunch of change :1orglaugh

As far as the poll goes.. I can't answer it, because it is 50/50 for me..

If it is heads up I grab it, heads down I leave it :thumbsup

I watched for about an hour then went home. I came back the next day with a friend and we watched some more (god damn it, we were bored as fuck ok?). For some reason it was one of the most entertaining things to watch. Finally after about two hours (we went and ate some lunch and came back) some asshole with some steel-toed boots kicked and kicked at the coin until it came undone and picked it up. I still hate that guy. :(

That said, hell yes I would try to pick it up. The only thing I won?t pick up is a penny because pennies are forbidden in the Archiot religion. Anything brown is.

mailman 04-15-2007 09:59 AM

Pennies make nickles, nickles make dimes, dimes make dollars ;)

CDSmith 04-15-2007 10:00 AM

This one time as I was approaching the entrance to a big department store I saw a coin in the parking lot. It didn't take long to realize it was glued to the pavement, so I went in the store, bought a screw driver along with the rest of the stuff I was there for, and on my way out I scraped that coin off the pavement and put it in me pocket.

I was raised to believe that found money is good luck.... ESPECIALLY a penny.

Fuck you all you penny haters. :D

Strickie 04-15-2007 10:02 AM

I'm picking it up

CDSmith 04-15-2007 10:05 AM

Btw, later that same week I won $10 on a $2 scratch ticket.

(Which means the screwdriver was free)

yeah, you don't get many of them in England

Pumba 04-15-2007 10:51 AM

Why not?

psili 04-15-2007 11:05 AM

Are you saying you won't eat a brown M&M?

I know they're not as cool as the green, "home run" M&M's, but that brown one offering the delicate squishiness of vagina just can't be passed up. *shrug*

This reminds me of that phrase that went around; how it wasn't worth Bill Gate's time to spend the seconds to pick up a dollar he saw while walking down the street, or something...

Also reminds me of my last road trip with the wife... We stopped at a gas station and she spied a toy car. Picked it up and said "Look what I found!". She showed it to me then threw it back on the pavement.

I think it was the moment of finding "something" that made her pick it up, all happy she was, in the middle of bumb-fuck-Egypt, that made the moment special. The realization of it being just a toy car and adding unnecessary clutter to life, I think, made her throw it back.

A dime, on the other hand, can be thrown in a coin jar and eventually cashed in.... So yea, I'd pick up the dime.

RayBonga 04-15-2007 11:48 AM

Sure, why not

VicD 04-15-2007 12:46 PM

i voted "yes" ofcourse

Polish's question reminds me of a very BASIC economics class scenario: Is it worth Bill Gates' time to pick up a $100 bill?

If you apply the principles of COST/BENEFIT analysis and OPPORTUNITY COSTS, the answer normally is NO. Why? Assuming that Bill Gates makes TENS OF THOUSANDS an hour (or more) just by helping to manage his company, the cost of picking up a $100 bill would be in the thousands of dollars. His benefit would be $100. In this case, he shouldn't pick up the bill. The same analysis applies for Opportunity costs. If the REPLACEMENT activity for making thousands of bucks yields only $100, then the activity shouldn't be replaced.

A critique of this economics analysis is that people aren't ALWAYS rational..... meaning, due to their emotional nature or maybe cultural or group dynamics, they don't always make the most rational decisions.

Anyway, just doing a little brain dump off an interesting thread...r

BlackCrayon 04-15-2007 01:46 PM

anything under a buck, no. and even then if it looks filth encrusted, no.

vj69 04-15-2007 01:48 PM

I don't pick up pennies but anything bigger, yes.

After Shock Media 04-15-2007 02:49 PM

Yes I would.

When I was thirteen I picked up a 1909 S VDB penny, that really made my year. I still have that coin, even though it is only in VG condition.

Now the odds of that ever happening again are beyond remote, it still would not stop me. When I found that penny it was on a busy sidewalk and several people if not hundreds must of passed it over.

After Shock Media 04-15-2007 02:54 PM

bad board.....

Barefootsies 04-15-2007 04:07 PM

No I would not.

gecko 04-15-2007 10:37 PM

Yes.. they're good luck :)

SomeCreep 04-15-2007 10:53 PM

Of course, 1 dime is 3 months worth of interest on a dollar.

wyldworx 04-15-2007 11:10 PM

my new custom is to pick up the 10c and replace it with a $1 coin.

shahab6 04-15-2007 11:22 PM

I only pick up paper money, not change.

Matt 26z 04-15-2007 11:24 PM

I put my finger in the coin return of payphones when I walk by them.

soulbleed 04-15-2007 11:27 PM

No, I wouldn't pick up a 10 cents coin but I'd pick up everything that's more than $0,99
