Horrible.

Id wait till after the olympics. Maybe next year this time and see if things have been speeding up. The whole system is on a hault right now.

Unless you are willing to go the special needs route right now, its a very long wait.

It used to be 1 year. Now its up to 3. However Im thinking that once the public eye is off China, they will start opening the doors again to the overpopulated hidden orphanages.

WOW..That is quite a wait. Pretty odd considering there is such an overabundance of female orphans. :(

I think we'd be looking more seriously into this about a year from now. Maybe some things will change and the process won't be as daunting. :thumbsup

The special needs route seems a nice way to go as well. Any idea what the plastic surgery for that condition runs and if there are any long term effects that might need to be taken into account?

thats awesome bone...congrats

They're using that red water to irrigate their plants, then they eat the plants, get cancer, have growths all over them, it's nasty.

Good on you for doing all the necessary work to make this a reality. I have a 3 month old baby myself, and it's amazing! :)

NP. I knew you were just bustin balls. Its all good.
Yep sad over there.

Lets talk sometime dude and catch up.

tical 04-24-2008 07:40 PM

are there any types of documentaries on this issue in china? i hear about it but definitely would like to watch something

Slick 04-24-2008 07:49 PM

Congrats man !!! Do you get to see pictures of the baby before you get it or is it just like "you want a girl, here's a girl".

My wife and I thought about adopting another child. We have 3 right now, after the 3rd one, my wife got her tubes tied, then about a year ago, she was having problems with a low iron in her blood, so the doctor recommended a hysterectomy, so now there's no way we can have any more kids.

Sometimes we think it'd be for the best to not have any more, we have our 2 boys and 1 girl, but sometimes we see little ones and wish we could have another.

seeric 04-24-2008 07:51 PM

have fun man. take pics.

prob will be the best coverage we'll get over here since the chinese govt will prob censure everything.

Slick 04-24-2008 07:57 PM

Woooops, I just re-read my post and messed up. My wife had a very low blood count, NOT low iron in her blood, ha ha.

C_U_Next_Tuesday 04-24-2008 08:13 PM

Wow, that's amazing what you and your wife are doing. That little girl is about to be given a one-in-a-million chance. I wish you all the very best. Your generosity makes the world just that much better to live in.

421Fill 04-24-2008 10:22 PM

it is very very cool of you and your wife to adopt a girl from China. I was reading something online about the problem there recently, and I was almost in tears. thank you for helping someone for life.

There was a documentary on Australian TV a couple days ago about this. Not sure if it is showing in the US but you might be able to get it off a torrent as that's where I got it from...

Oh and congrats Boneprone very impressed. :thumbsup That Smiles show always gets to me too...I have friends that just adopted their second Chinese orphan and apart from the paperwork, would highly recommend it.

By one estimate about 70,000 children are kidnapped and sold on the black market in China each year.

Untold thousands of other people are tragically affected by the trade? this film features remarkable access to those at its core: desperate parents searching for a stolen son; a trafficker who brokers deals and who sold his own child; a young couple having to give away their newborn daughter; a private investigator who hunts for stolen children; a boy rescued from traffickers.

In modern China, baby girls can be sold for as little as $500. Boys cost $1000-plus. "China?s Stolen Children" intimately reveals the depth of this tragedy and explores the connection between child trafficking, an alarming shortage of girls and the country's stringent birth control policy. It's a link the Chinese Government rejects.

This documentary shows a side of China that authorities would rather keep hidden ? at any time, and especially in the long run-up to the Olympics. Its makers worked undercover, posing as tourists, constantly moving hotels and changing their telephone simcards.

"China's Stolen Children" recently won a Royal Television Society Award and won the best international current affairs documentary at the BAFTAs on Sunday 20 April. Narrated by Sir Ben Kingsley, made for Channel 4 and HBO.

NinjaSteve 04-25-2008 01:26 AM

Is it a more or less expensive process to adopt from China vs. the US? Did you look at other countries or just China?

Stephen McTowelie 04-25-2008 02:47 AM

Congrats man :thumbsup So sad whats happening in China my fiancee is from Hong Kong she gets very upset seeing whats going on there especially as she has some family still there.

A lot cheaper to adopt in the US.
For China its going to total us around 40k total from start to end. Not including the medical/surgery required for going the special needs route we chose to do.

Price wasnt the issue with us though. China is something we have always wanted to do.

As for the USA domestic adoption, it too is a great program.. But it does have some very disturbing laws attached to it that has been pushing away prospective adoptive parents.

In the US the biological mother has a lot more rights, even though she "gave up" her child she still has some rights and can even cause legal troubles if she all of a sudden "changes her mind" and wants the baby back. You see this happening all the time in the news. Whats worse courts supporting this behavior. As a result it has discouraged many many good families from adopting domestically.

No adoptive family wants to be looked at as the bad guy for taking away a child from the biological mother.

The domestic system needs to be fixed.
Domestic adoption is a great thing, but the horror stories have pushed some away.

Anal Hobbit 04-25-2008 10:04 AM

Why dont you guys have your own kid? Something wrong with you?

And if you do choose to adopt why China of all places..

And why adopt a retarded looking kid with Cleft?? Why wouldnt you adopt a healthy one?

I just dont get it.

FreeHugeMovies 04-25-2008 10:26 AM

Hope all goes well in China Bone

Joe BrainCash 04-25-2008 10:36 AM

Check out "China from the Inside" by PBS. It's a four parter, and the second part is all about women in China. It's amazing that the cameras got so much access for the show, actually.

RevengeBucks_Monica 09-09-2008 10:38 PM

Good luck to you and your wife! I can only imagine how much better your little girl's life will now be than if she were stuck orphaned in China, especially with a cleft lip. She will be a darling!
