Honestly it's the parent that should have their ass kicked for that. How irresponsible can one be? I'm sure the parents of that kid will torture themselves with guilt forever for what their child went through which is, no question about it, THEIR faults in the end.

And yes I have three kids, and I'm FREAKY about who has access to them. I would never dream of allowing a stranger even near them, let alone leaving one with them.
