It's nice to see IE's market share is being eroded, it used to be well over 80% last year, now it's less than 60:

Browsers Grabber Hits Percent
MS Internet Explorer No 41781081 58.9 %
Firefox No 16965171 23.9 %
Safari No 8599543 12.1 %
Opera No 1375627 1.9 %
Unknown ? 599164 0.8 %
Mozilla No 596198 0.8 %

IE8 seems to really enjoy fucking up CSS's.

Those stats are BS. No way Safari is really that high and Chrome is nowhere to be seen even though is nearly triple Opera or higher. Oh and IE is not anywhere close to being under 60%

If you design your pages properly, it really shouldn't matter.

IE8 works fine for me though I use FF more website building and downloads. :2 cents:

Those are figures for an "artistic" kind of site, lots of the users are the Mac brigade. I lifted the stats directly off my server.

And then they are still bullshit since they do represent REAL world statistics. That would be like me walking into a bar in Boston and asking how many people are Red Sox fans and then using that to infer that 99% of the population as a whole must be Red Sox fans.

WDG 04-30-2009 10:46 PM

I just knew you'd come back with something.

It depends on your market of course, but that site of mine is pretty general.

Look at the stats - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usage_s..._web_browsers:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi..._share.svg.png

The usage share of web browsers.
Source: Net Applications[1]
Internet Explorer (66.82%)

Mozilla Firefox (22.05%)

Safari (8.23%)

Google Chrome (1.23%)

Opera (0.70%)

Other (0.97%)

From W3 as well for comparison: http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp

Post stats from your most popular site then GatorB and let's see.

What?! 99% of the population as a whole ISN'T Red Sox fans?!? BLASPHEMY!

The W3 schools surfers are more likely to be geeks though using alternative browsers.

Wiki should be a pretty good representation of the REAL world.

Funny thing.. for years when reviewing sites for links I used Netscape because it seemed a lot less forgiving of coding errors than IE was. Moved to Firefox quite a while back. Only time IE opens is for statsremote.

SuzzyQ 04-30-2009 11:44 PM

The only time I use IE is to check out how a site looks. Outside of that, we never use IE. I think we still have the default homepage in IE. We use FF for everything.

Well, Netscape (7+) and Firefox both came from the same place... Mozilla. They started out as the same browser, just with AOL's perversions thrown in to call it Netscape.
