I wouldn't start to compare Costa Rica to India or anything, but there are pollution and garbage problems here, and they start at the fact that the locals don't give a shit, and no one wants to pay to fix anything. If you give them the choice between sewage treatment or more garbage routes, or a weeks worth of beer, they'll tell you to fuck off so they can get drunk in peace (and throw the cans out of their car window because garbage collection costs them money).

Poor people seem to have this sense of "it's not my problem". I'd imagine with 500x the population it'd just be that much worse.

If you don't feel bad for kids being forced to bathe in garbage then you probably have no soul, and will likely never know about things like love and happiness, so i wouldnt worry too much about it :)

If it were me I think I'd sell any and all worldly possessions I may have and hopefully raise enough money to move my family out of such a shithole, maybe stow away on a tramp steamer to a place where people don't wallow in their own filth.
