Those cage pedals were pretty nasty. All the race guys run the clipless pedals these days so no more shin burgers. Freestyle guys all run the plastic pedals these days.
I know a few guys at the local track who could probably identify every part on that bike. If the parts are that rare they would probably even make an offer if you're selling. |

My fave bike was a GT with spokes alloys though, Sleeved grip handles , alloy cranks , Alloy everything. Good times bustin jumps down the levels before they built the homes in OC. Just like the movie "E.T" lol If I got a nickle for every shin dig :1orglaugh so thats the bike huh alias?? |

Hubs look very familiar, but it's been a while. DK? |
I like that bike its a classic
|
BTW, what year is that Macneil frame? I know Jay Miron started Macneil a while back but I forget exactly when.
Can't be too old. Looks like some S&M bars and forks, possibly some Profile cranks. Pretty solid setup. :) |

Yep, milfs like it for some reason.. . "nice bike.. ." |
ahahaha - great thread!
brings back memories. unfortunately my parents only bought me a cheap "BMX 2000" and i was always envious when i saw the other kids with the cooler bikes. and still it's a mystery to me why i never broke any bones at that time, it's not that i haven't tried ;) |

This Macneil has a 22" top tube for taller riders and therefore is called the "duece duece", I guess this year's is getting slimmer tubes: http://www.macneilbmx.com/blog/wp-co...87-625x416.jpg I had a guy working for me who was also a bike mechanic, he hooked up the bike properly. Fixing the brakes, added new pads went over it all. |
i had one when i was boy, but i ruined him

Way back in 1974 my friend and I were at the " Paved Wave " skate park in Cocoa Florida. A kid had rode his stingray bike complete with the banana seat to the park. One thing led to another and someone dared my friend to take the stingray down the main ramp into the big bowl. My friend took the challenge and made it all the way through the run.
I don't know when they started riding BMX in parks and ramps but I'm willing to bet no one here can take it any more old school than that :winkwink: http://www.thewoop.com/public_html/p...s/stingray.jpg |
Barefoot no less, awesome pic! You guys win the Old School award for sure.
|
I had one of those 20 years ago....
|
Ahh hell yes BMX! Used to race every weekend back in middle school! Was always a good time, first bike was a Mongoose Comp (I think thats what it is) and after a week of owning it some fucker jacked it from the garage. Got a Mongoose Supergoose Pro a few days later, loved that bike. The thing was damn near 100% aluminum and was light as a feather.
|
I used to ride BMX in 85-88 and just started riding a BMX 24" cruiser a year or so ago to get around and street ride... SO much fun
|
i just finished rebuilding this 1973 raleigh grand prix road bike into a custom fixie, i havent got pics yet, ill try to get them soon.
My fav BMX as a kid was a Dyno.. Nitro i think. Injured many a body parts on that thing. Here is my current street/dirt jump bike. 2005 giant STP2, this is a stock photo, mine is converted to single speed. http://archive.giant-bicycles.com/im...2004/STP-2.jpg |

I had a Skyline |
Awesome thread.
All my bikes were stolen but I had mongoose and the GT Pro Performer. Saddest thing about this sport to me is that Mongoose is now an $89 Wal-Mart brand. That bike was so bad ass. Anthony, what were the Mongoose rims called with the holes punched out between the spokes? That's what I had until I got the Skyway Tuff Wheel II's |
I miss the kid in me.
|
BMX was overrated....
it's all about big wheel! http://www.uberreview.com/wp-content...mi%20trike.jpg |
That bigwheel is fucked up. Original but the steering bar is pretty lame though. Might need slimmer bars and a taller guy.

|

Im really starting to feel old in this thread http://verydesign.net/bmx/gt_ad85a.jpg |
jake can you do the stuff in the intro of rad?
also did bart and the twins and cru actually ride/do tricks? or was it someone else |
Wicked thread.
Wish I still had my Mongoose. I had it chrome dipped and replaced practically every part. Uni seat, Oakley B1-B grips, Tuff-nek, 3 piece cranks which I can not remember the name of, shimano pedals, the cool 3-finger brake level....the works. Did a couple races at the top of Londsdale in Vancouver and am still riding. Doing the Vancouver to Seattle ride for Cancer this weekend. More pics!! |
I had a white Haro frame with all kinds of a la carte parts on it. I must have put thousands of miles on that thing riding around the 5 boroughs in the 80's.
Good times... Lost the bike in a house fire otherwise I would have kept it for sure... |

I totally missed the BMX era. I guess that makes me a "new generation" of a rider.

To stay on topic I found a few old pics to check out. First one was taken in 1984 underneath the Huntington Beach pier as some guys put on their own little exhibition during the OP Pro surf contest. The second pic was taken in Cocoa beach but I can't put a date on it. http://www.thewoop.com/public_html/p.../stingray2.jpg http://www.thewoop.com/public_html/p.../stingray3.jpg http://www.thewoop.com/public_html/p.../stingray4.jpg |
