I'm very much in favor of what you say. If we mandated training for all the things you mentioned for gun owners I'd feel a whole lot better about the whole thing. A lot of guns police find on criminals were stolen from "law abiding" gun owners. If they knew how to properly store their weapons in something like a bolted down gun safe it would go a long way.

here in the uk, a lot of guns are illegal, and those that aren't are strictly contolled. anyone who's found with a gun gets an instant minimum 5 years inside.

when someone breaks in to your house in the UK, 99.5% of the time they're aren't armed with a gun, because they no the occupier isn't. i keep a baseball bat under the bed, which is perfectly adequate.

Sorry, I don't think so. It's a laughably fallacious assumption that outlawing guns outright will make criminals comply with anti-gun laws and deter crime. You know what deters crime? An alert and armed citizenry that's taught and trained to safely and effectively use firearms. You don't rob or rape when you know that the intended victim will put at least five pieces of screaming metal death into your chest.

As for the second amendment, it still is quite valid and not outmoded as many of you wingnuts like to argue. The powerful reasoning that our founding fathers employed in writing the original amendments is intended to protect the citizenry from an overbearing and unjust government, and even if we don't have one now (arguable for some), there's no guarantee that we'll never have one again.

Actually, wait, there is: the Constitution, including the second amendment.

Let's get rid of all the guns in the US. Then criminals can illegally smuggle them in like they already do with drugs and won't have to worry about any vigilantes getting in their way.

Oh right, knives can be used as weapons. Let's get rid of all the knives in the US too. All the blunt objects...what else? Hey, Joe Pesci stabs a guy with a pen in Casino, let's get rid of all pens and pencils. Oh, and that guy recently killed his wife accidentally when throwing a TV remote at her, clocking her in the head and killing her, so damn...no more TV remotes either.

All the criminals will illegally smuggle them in anyways though. If we get rid of all the guns, we rely 100% on our inept police force to protect us, and that's if they feel like protecting us because lord knows what happens if you catch one of them on a bad day.

The sad truth is I HATE guns and ANY weapons and really wish people would all collectively agree to fucking get along for the benefit of ALL of us. But it will never happen because people want money, power, etc. and some people are willing to threaten, injure and kill others to get it.

If you don't want to own a gun, so be it. I like shooting things, So bite me.

sounds like the real problem is not that americans have guns, but that there are so many rapists and murderers roaming around the country that everyone needs a gun to protect themselves. scary concept.
