Not to take away from this fundraising BUT..
Red Cross is doing this: TEXT "HAITI" to 90999 and you donate $10 via your cellphone bill being charged. Not sure if all areas work though. |
Good stuff!

ardy i love ya but pleasurepays has a point for the first time in his life... 'sponsored by cybererotica' on the banners is pretty tasteless.. how about at least some banners without this.. i havent even looked at the site but i'd say make sure it didnt have your name plastered on it either if you're really doing this to help the Haitians.
i donated already through another channel for the record. |
I am sorry but I think charity should be done by those who have experience in it.
Not by people who put SPONSORED BY on banners Actually, this is sad! |

I've been in this biz as long as anyone. It's totally stunning to me that in this industry of relationships, which produces little more than fake, insincere ass kissers and con artists... that so few would appreciate how incredibly wrong it is to try to promote your company name/company to webmasters through the use of something as awful as whats happened.
Even further, i shouldn't be surprised at the idiotic analogies to charities operated by Google, or championed by George Clooney or Bono or anyone else that adopts a cause and uses their name to promote it and everyone's inability to understand that they aren't saying "send money - sponsored by George Clooney" - which any idiot could understand is horribly inappropriate. George Clooney isn't trying to help stop genocide, rape and starvation in Darfur by launching efforts that say "sponsored by George Clooney" and EVERY single piece of literature or plastered on the wall behind him at every speaking engagement. This is not some random "cause" that people devote their life and personal money/time to promoting as a life long cause. They certainly aren't stupid enough to go further and defend that behavior by saying "i'm using the George Clooney name because over the years, we've produced some great movies like Gladiator and Peacekeeper and its a name you know you can trust" - as if that makes any sense at all or has any bearing on helping those in need. If there was any time in your life when you should exhibit some degree of integrity, compassion and selflessness, as a company... its now. But of course, pornographers can't wait to reinforce every negative stereotype there is about them. That's always been true of this business. A symptom of the worlds largest collection of dysfunctional people outside of NASCAR and WWF fan clubs. I'm sure Vivid has already got their eyes on a few earthquake victims to "offer contracts to" and the press releases are already written. Why break from what works? Not sure why you think it matters that you put your banners everywhere in your networks... therefore, it make sense that you try to send money to Haiti by saying "sponsored by Cybererotica" - Of course, if it was Coca Cola... saying EVERYWHER "sponsored by Coca Cola" everyone would be going bat shit because they don't have a relationship with them that might be useful or is useful. And Andy.. why isn't this thread blowing up with support because of your "known brand, known company and long history that people can trust"? Because in a business where everyone is afraid of standing on principle, having a strong opinion and in constant fear of risking any sort of damage to any relationship that might send them 20 pre-checked cross sales a day... privately, behind the scenes, they are saying "oh my fucking god... I can't believe someone would do that" And... are you promoting the companies that DO donate or work with you and give them props on your PR site to promote CE?? Of course not. Why do that when absolutely everything you've done says "sponsored by CE Cash" on it? That would defeat the purpose right? Is it about everyone who contributes? Of course not. You will just publicly claim you have great support from people that matter and all secretly of course... They aren't asking for recognition. No one is creating a list of running totals. No one is creating threads "thank you XYZ for donating 10,000.00"... i guess they don't see the marketing value of 100,000 dead people in the same way you do. |
Good going Ardy!

The banners say Cybererotica.com on them because these were originally made on a friday with one days notice and put up all throughout the cyberertoica traffic network, the site itself is a personal message from myself to my friends and colleagues in our industry asking for help in raising funds. We are also planning on giving away free memberships in returns for donations, the bottom line here, DONATIONS!!!! I don't give a fuck how they get there or by whom or who thinks what of us, this was done for a good cause at the 12th hour by a good portion of our staff just to try to make a little difference and it has raised thousands $$$ in one weekend, hopefully the majority of that money gets there via these charities. Many people have made donations because of this small effort, some have even volunteered to physical travel there to help, there was one goal here, raise as much money for these poor bastards in the shortest time possible, we didn't sit and draw layouts and mock ups for hours, we acted as fast as possible. You termites on this board only know how to judge, learn how to take action. |

Andy, no good deed goes unpunished... and you will never make EVERYONE happy. Props to you for taking your time and money to get behind this. With that said, whether it was a pr stunt or not.... if there was no intent to get pr from it and it isn't generating pr, and you don't care about the pr, why not just take it off of the banners. If there is no benefit to it then I would just remove it and not leave a crack in the door for people to have doubt or criticize. To be honest the first I saw the post I thought " i hope they aren't asking people to send them money through paypal and then they are going to donate it". Its good to see you list a page of legit charities for people to donate to, at least no one can doubt that you are trying to scam them. |
You could still change the banners and make it almost perfect.
|
How much did CE donate to Katina victims? Seems they really get involved with this sort of thing. Anyone know?

Did you have to pay for this sticky or did GFY give it to you for free?

Nice job Ardy - Good to see what you're doing for the relief efforts. I know we all feel the need to help out even in small ways. (your donation was a BIG way - way to go!)
I saw on the sales management software we use - salesforce.com - that they are matching donations dollar for dollar, so maybe a good way to get more bang for the buck going through them if there are smaller donations like $5, $10? Well doubling any amount is a good thing. Just an idea for anyone who wants to check them out. Saw it when I logged into them this morning. |
And those donations are directly to Red Cross or World Vision too, but go thru their link to track what they have to match.
Don't mean to divert Ardy's efforts in any way - just thought this was cool that they're matching red cross donations dollar for dollar. :thumbsup |
I applaud Ardy on his efforts to help these people.
I think Haiti was already all jacked up but I wont knock Ardy's efforts or genuine compassion. I dont think people realize how busy Ardy is, the point he was trying to make with the "12th hour" comment is that he didnt have the time to address and/or correct every minor issue or concern with this. He was simply trying to get the damn thing up quickly before the weekend so he could provide some type of help to these Haitians. So pleasure and grossman please do something to "one-up" the effort or just shoot yourselves then CE can "sponsor" a charity for you too. :1orglaugh |
