what is this world coming to when the mafia is telling a random on GFY about their business operations?

I think I missed all the best fun, mind you there are a few memorable personalitys I miss who have beeen banned since I have been here and I have sure had some laughs as well as some WTF and OMGs but that is what makes GFY what it is ..We need more drama, more webmaster catfights and more keyboard warriors I think :2 cents:

Pulling ads over someone trolling you seems pretty weak to me, but whatever works for you that's what you go with.

... a couple of dozen industry people declaring they are leaving GFY forever, and then try to get themselves banned by bashing the board and owner, and then crawling back to the board and returning a whopping two months after taking a stand against GFY, tube sites, and theft?

It runs a bit deeper than that.

People complain that GFY is not what it used to be. They bitch about the trolls and surfers turning the place to shit. Recently Eric has been working to clean up the image of GFY and make it a better place for business. I've talked with both Eric and EB about this issue today and as far as I am concerned, this is a VERY easy BUSINESS decision.

Option A: Ban somebody who has trolled GFY for years and who rarely, if ever, posts any business related threads. This option lets you keep a long time GFY sponsor and get rid of somebody who contributes nothing but hate and drama.

Option B: Allow the trolling to continue. This option will cost you thousands of dollars in lost revenue as well as losing a long time member who posts actual business threads and contributes to the overall growth, well being, and true purpose of GFY.

Here we have a company who has dumped 6 figures into GFY ad spots, multiple skins, etc... Those paid spots generate the revenue that lets GFY pay for things like hosting and all the free shit they have given away to webmasters, not to mention commission dollars. I don't care what business you are in, when you loose a major client/sponsor/whatever, YOU LOSE MONEY.

If I buy ad spots from a newspaper and that paper allows an editorial to go to print that bashed my business, me personally, or just harasses me in general....I'm not going to continue to do business with that newspaper. If you think that is weak of me then you have zero business sense yourself.

Back in the day, nobody could compete with GFY. These days there are other options. If an advertiser feels that they no longer want to support a forum that allows people to continuously troll their legitimate threads then they can and will take their advertising dollars elsewhere.

If you have a LEGIT complaint about somebody that's one thing...Post about it all you want as long as you can back up your complaint. This happened to EB about a week ago when somebody made a thread about poor conversions. Did EB pull ads then? Nope.

Standard GFY ad rates are 2.5k per month for top banners and 25k per week for skins. Using those numbers, that means that EB has spent somewhere in the neighborhood of 30k on GFY so far this year. Keep in mind that EB has been advertising here for many years and has skinned GFY multiple times. Why should anybody continue to pay out thousands of dollars to support a forum that allows their paid advertisers to unjustifiably treated like shit?

I like and respect both Eric and EB. I hate to see EB leave GFY but the real tragedy here is that while Eric has been working hard to make GFY a better place for business, GFY has just lost EB's direct business and a member who brings indirect business to the board.

Posting my opinions in this thread could very easily cost me business. :( Although I hope it does not, I feel the need to stand up for what I believe in. That being said...It is my humble opinion that GFY would be MUCH better off by adapting the rules to cut out the trolls.

I feel sorry for those who say things like: "This is what made GFY what it is today" Truth be told...GFY is complete shit today because these things have been allowed to run rampant for FAR too long. Traffic is down, obviously that means posts and page views are down as well. ADAPT OR DIE.

I'd rather not see GFY die.

I have said the same thing in other threads as well. Long story short, some of us do business here. We are not going to just sit back and let ourselves or our business get bashed by fry cooks who can sling allegations with nothing to lose.

The rules are simple. Post proof of your claims or be banned.

For far too long people could simply smear people and companies with reckless disregard and would have no accountability for their actions. Eric has been trying to clean that up. It is not easy, and he is making progress. It is just taking some time.

For those who find amusement and entertainment in actual people of this industry being bashed and trolled for personal vendettas, and childish "I don't like him" bullshit. That says more about you, your life, and lack of happiness in it.

There are many people I do not like. There are people who do not like me. However there is a difference. I do not make it a point to post in their threads bashing them all the time. I do not follow them around posting behind them in all of their thread I can find them in. I do not try and smear people I do not like without provocation. I do not try and ruin their business. Nor shit on their B&S threads even when I think they are shit. I do not launch attacks on their sites nor spread lies about them.

None of that makes me any money.

I like EB, even though I do not always agree with s/he opinions. I find MetaMan entertaining. Although he and I personally have not always seen eye to eye either. He has been around and knows about this industry. Which is more than I can say for some of the more recent trolls.

Eric's job is not easy, but I am happy to see he is at least trying.

Nobody is single handedly responsible for the loss in traffic. Yes, the state of the industry itself is also a factor. The difference being that GFY has zero control of the entire industry but 100% control of the content posted here. Trolls and surfers detract from business and when people like EB are paying for that business, they should not have to deal with anybody or anything that undermines their marketing efforts.

in all seriousness, lot's of people just went back to work.

i myself loved fucking around and making funny posts to entertain people with any number of funny characters that we created to contribute to the circus, but when dollars comes to cents, business needs to get done in a time when the markets are changing. that takes time. time is money. posting on boards takes time.

hence, more time working = less time being funny, and/or contributing to gfy in educational ways for some, or trolling ways for some.

regardless of who is who, what you make, or say you make, you ARE affected by the current economic times in some fashion. say you aren't and i bet you can prove to yourself in several ways how you can make more money in the current times if you spent LESS time on boards.

i still come to gfy. gfy still gives me value. i've just learned to imbibe it in a different way. i like what eric's doing. i think it's great. but, as a long time poster i decided to NOT do the educational thing because i now choose to stay out of the spotlight and away from unnecessary trolling. it's just not possible to post here on ANY subject and not get trolled.

I have actually heard this remark from many quality people in the industry in private IM, as well as at conferences. They simply do not post on GFY/boards anymore because they are do not want the drama or being trolled. Even when they are program owners, or old timers of the online adult industry.

They admit to still reading most boards, but a lot of those 'old guys' who were around long ago stopped posting because you can't say anything without there being an angle, or a scam, or an edge, or a sales pitch to it. Whether there is or isn't.

Shap made the same comment himself tail end of last year. Not just on here, but on another board as well. Talking about how many of the BROgram owners and people who used to contribute and trying to help people stopped posting. There is no sense trying to help people if you are going to be endlessly bashed. I can't blame them.

Those people stopped posting for any number of reasons.

Why would I take the time to hit you up with small talk about who you are or what you do when you represent yourself to me as an asshole? The GFY President thing was a complete joke. I never said I WAS President, it was a humorous campaign where I was supposed to be running for GFY Pres. As far as I know, GFY has never had a position with that title so how you or anybody else could have taken that seriously is way beyond my comprehension.

I certainly do have a checkered past here though and I will not dispute that. I've been here for going on 9 years and as nature would have it, people tend to mature a bit and change their views/actions over time. I'm not perfect and I never will be so I would have no place in expect that from anybody else. However, I think respecting those who support this forum is a reasonable request.

I have been a member since 2002 and the only difference I see in the board is that it does not move as fast as it used to. There has always been some serious posters/business related...but mostly ignorant assholes/board whores/trolls...and you are all three of these.

Anyway, it's not really my style to kick a dog when it's down.

I admit it's gotten a lot easier to participate in the community lately - and I feel like this board is trying really hard to make things better. Still though, frequency brings with it temptations. I haven't bickered on the boards for some time and it has been fun - but ultimately unproductive.
