The point isn't whether or not one likes her music. That's a matter of taste. The point is whether or not she's talented. I think most would agree that her pre-Gaga stuff is very good. And being a student at the Tisch School of the Arts is no small accomplishment.
Funny someone mentioned Norah Jones as a comparison to her pre-GaGa days. Jones had the advantage of being an insider. Her father is Ravi Shankar who is huge in the music world and her mother was a concert producer. When the music industry wouldn't embrace her as Stefanie Germanotta she invented Lady GaGa. I think it was part necessity and part 'fuck you'. The same record companies that wouldn't give her the time of day would now chop off an arm to have a piece of her. To be able to do all that takes talent. Madonna has those marketing chops for sure, but she can't hold a candle to her musically. As for longevity, very few acts stay around for 20 years (even The Beatles only managed about 7 or 8). And some that do stay around for long periods sell out or become irrelevant (see: The Rolling Stones). I am interested to see if she eventually goes back to the jazzy persona. I don't think she can keep up the larger-than-life Lady GaGa character forever. Even Elton John put away the duck suit and huge sunnies at some point. |

How do you wake up Lady Gaga?
Poke 'er face, |
According to my calculations, Lady GaGa is currently in minute 10 of her 15 minutes of fame. I commend her for cashing in big and plenty.

NOBODY was looking for Susan Boyle, that is why nobody found her. If you believe her version of the story, she wasn't looking for herself, either. It was all about trying to appease her recently deceased mother. There is a heartwarming story behind Susan Boyle; from her outcast life, the rock in her life dying, overcoming fear, etc. that gave us THE Susan Boyle. The story helps to sell Susan Boyle. Yes, her voice is amazing, but her story combined with her voice, is why people fell in love with her. People were finally rooting for the underdog and that underdog was Susan Boyle. |

Hopefully Gaga is saving her publishing checks and didn't sign a 360 deal because her tour is losing money.
Lady Gaga kicked off her Monster Ball Tour to rave reviews and packed venues, with almost every show selling out. Yet the singer is not making any money off it, reports in the British media cited by GigWise says. Her outrageous outfits and expensive stage sets have already cost her an estimated $4 million so far and there’s no sign she might stop bleeding money with upcoming shows either. When speaking about the Monster Ball, Gaga often described it as “ostentatious” and “over the top.” True to her word, the shows proved to be just that: a feast not only for the ears, but also for the eyes, with elaborate stage props and outlandish designer outfits, all of which are meant to shock and create a lasting impression on the concertgoers. It all came at a very high price, though, as estimates say what she makes in ticket sales barely covers what she spends on this extravagance. “Expensive outfits and stage props, such as an alleged $100,000 giant bathtub, are pushing the overheads up on the North American leg of the jaunt meaning the singer is yet to make any profit. It’s claimed that Gaga’s self-proclaimed ‘ostentatious’ tour has lost almost $4 million so far and it may be some time before she’s in the black,” GigWise writes, citing ongoing reports. “The gigs are losing money hand over fist because they’ve spent a fortune on pricey costumes, technical equipment and elaborate set designs. She spent £500,000 on one stage alone. But Lady Gaga gets what Lady Gaga wants. Her wardrobe is huge and she wants to shock – and that costs serious money,” an unnamed source, reportedly well familiar with the singer’s financial situation, says for the media. Her spokesperson, while not downright confirming the rumors, is not denying them either. Lady Gaga invests everything in her live shows, from all her time and best efforts to her money, so it wouldn’t actually be a surprise if she were losing money with the Monster Ball instead of adding more to her fortune, he says. http://news.softpedia.com/news/Lady-...r-131307.shtml |
its interesting...with her videos on youtube getting 10s of millions of hits...that she is one of the top selling artists last year. why is anyone paying for what they can get for free???
|
never really paid too much attention to her or her music... and I want to keep it this way.

It's a bit pointless people posting those old vids of her saying she's really good, when that isn't what we hear every hour of every day on the radio. (or at least that wasn't the point of the thread anyway). So saying "yes but really she is good" talking about stuff that you'll never see or hear doesn't really matter.
If like if the Backstreet Boys had videos of them when they were younger playing heavy metal stuff.... |
She's a genius and yes, she's the new Madonna :2 cents:

Dude, it doesn't matter whether she's good or bad, what matters is she has more fucking money than you or me. If you're so hateful just write some shitty lyrics, dress your ass in some silly skimpy-ass shit and compete with her. I know I couldn't pull it off, could you?

Lady GAG me is more like it.
