yeah, this happens in Jamaica unless you are staying at a self-contained resort: buy some bud? conch soup? braid your hair? pretty flowers for your hair? be your guide? etc etc

I love Jamaica, I've been there 11 times. Negril has the nicest beaches out of Negril, Montego Bay and Ocho Rios to the person asking about where to stay, and those are the 3 most comon tourist areas. Check Trip Advisor if your really interested in going, lots of good information there.

Montego Bay is where you want to fly into, I haven't been to Kingston and wouldn't want to go anywhere near there really.
