On some other board, somewhere on the internet, there's a thread about this subject, but all of the posters are outraged over the firing of people -- who are probably illegally in this country. That scares me.

I say fuck them. They should lose their jobs.

dynastoned 06-29-2010 10:33 PM

fuck em if you're going to miss work you get your shifts covered or call in sick. you don't just say fuck it and go protest and say wtf when you don't have a job to come back to.

it's a business people depend on their workers to be responsible. when that many people don't show up for work that will put a restaurant in bad shape for the day. potentially ruining chances for returning customers because service was slow or poor because they were short staffed.

i'd say tough shit as well.

Jon Oso 06-30-2010 01:11 AM

As someone who has managed several service industry businesses in AZ it's a big enough pain in the ass when ONE employee doesn't show up when you run a well-oiled machine.

Any time you have certain people hired to do specific jobs you usually train them to do that job and only that job. Especially in a bar/restaurant.

Only reason I'd not be upset is if we were way over staffed and really, really slow and I was expecting that.

In three years I never had ANYONE request a day off and when denied, take it off anyway. They all knew they would no longer have a job unless they got it covered before hand.

You really can't bring your own political, religious, moral, whatever beliefs into a business setting. You were hired to do a specific job at a specific rate of pay, and there are 50 other people I can hire to do the same thing if you don't want to do it. You're paid to do a job, do it to the best of your ability and be a whiney cry-baby on your own time.

I don't see where the union has squat to say about this issue. These workers were not unionized and are not a member.

I think the union is just grand standing to get attention. Like I said, this is a right to work state and beings the workers are not part of that union, they have no claims, except stupidity on their part.

Hopefully this will be a message to all the others who feel they deserve special treatment.

Union? Restaurant employees in Arizona have a union? LOL, what?

Everyone has a right to protest, the issue here is that these special people probably felt they deserved the day off to go protest even though some were suppose to be at work and were told they could not have the day off and some just took the day off...basically telling management to fuck off. I think they are learning a hard lesson that they do not have a right to do what ever the hell they want to.

There are unions in AZ, but not very many. I remember when I drove a keg route for Budweiser and the union came in to try and take over....did not work so well and right to work states do not like unions.
This restaurant was not a unionized establishment nor were the idiots a member of the union, this is why I mentioned this union is grand standing for attention.

I imagine they will get their jobs back as well as a LARGE cash settlement from pres urkels fed court

This is a right to work state, they aren't getting anything back and will probably not get unemployment benefits if the restaurant fights the claims. If I owned that establishment, they wouldn't get one dime.

I am sure this establishment will fight the claims, most employers in AZ do.

TheDoc 06-30-2010 06:43 AM

They could have protested before work, during lunch, after work, scheduled a day off or maybe protested a different day or even a different location.

The right to protest is simply the idea that you can protest - it's a very simple idea.

It doesn't mean it gives you permission to miss school, work, legal appointments, court, etc - so you can protest. It would be rather funny to hear a person tell a Judge they missed a court date because they were out protesting.

In any State, those people would have been rightfully fired assuming the Company policy has always been enforced.

the issue here is if it was some cute white lady wanting to protest for or against abortion, she would have been allowed

what happened, is you have a case of class discrimination

but hey, whatever right?

Varius 06-30-2010 08:49 AM

LOL you sure those workers weren't Costa Rican :1orglaugh

Here, they cannot be fired for taking off work to watch an important soccer game or participate in a public protest.

Actually, when it's the World Cup (not like they make it very often), employers are required to actually give them PAID time off so they can go to a bar and watch it. Sad. As if they could do any less work...

You really like making assumptions, don't you? What if it was 12 cute white ladies? You think that if that same restaurant had all their waitresses just not show up for work because they wanted to protest abortions PF Chang's would have been cool with it?

Are you kidding me? The issue is not about a white woman. Why all of a sudden do you bring that shit into the mix? What does a white woman have to do with this.

Just for grins, if in fact it was a white woman wanting to protest and she did what they did, her ass would be fired too.

This is about some "stupid idiots" that think they can ignore management's decision. So because they were Mexican they should be allowed to do as they please and fuck what management says? Good way to lose your job......

You obviously don't work in the states, maybe where you are located they allow people to tell their boss to fuck off and we will do as we please.

I don't care what race you are, if you violate any company policy, you get fucked, plain and simple ;)

I am sure they did it because I am white......:1orglaugh:1orglaugh

half the work force of a resturant didn't show up to work without notice, the resturant couldn't operate like that, jobs were easy to fill, now some protesters are unemployed.

Circle of life

the fact it was a company who sells chinese food makes this more disgusting.. i suppose the chinese never have had to deal with forced deportation in the hundreds of thousands

WTF? Now what part of the article mentions mass deportation? Did the article mention mass deportation of these dumb asses? NO!

And what does selling Chinese food have to do with this? You really are reaching :Oh crap
I would take a bet to say the Chinese owners are here legally, but you nor I can prove that, now can we?

There is no discrimination in this case, it is about some fucking idiots that think they were done wrong when they were doing wrong themselves and had their ass handed to them...you will never get it.

Your assumption was quite clear. You are assuming that these people were fired because of the reason they left work (with no notice), following that up by stating if it was a sweet white lady she never would have been fired.

If it was one sweet nonwhite person that decided to not show up to work, they probably would not have been fired either. When it's 12 people, white, black, yellow, orange, or purple... that is a huge issue and you just don't seem to understand that it's a huge issue.

sorry, i view the current legal precedents as a gear up for another reparation, and i can see why the people in question would too

i brought up the Chinese because 100 years ago, we'd be talking about them

and yes, i would get it and do, i have said repeatedly that i am on the fence in regards to the aspect of obligation to work.. personally i think good for them and they can probably get another job in seconds.

my point, again, is the only reason they were protesting is they had an assumed legal right to work if the employer was PF Changs, and faced racial profiling put in by the legislation of the government.

I assume when you mention "people in question"you are speaking about SB1070 and illegal immigrants?

You bet there will be reparation as states move in the direction that Az has. The illegal immigrants are pissed because the people of this country are fed up with the illegal immigrant situation and they know the free lunch will be over real soon.

I would be pissed too if you took everything away from me and my Family if I was getting for free.

There is a right way to do things and a wrong way....they chose the wrong way.

I don't understand what you mean. People that are here legally can be here and those that are here illegally don't. Illegal immigrants have no rights in this country.

Still a bit confused on what you mean :upsidedow

the people who were fired were legally supposed to be there, i'm assuming, or it would have been out by now that they were aliens

again, a lot of grey areas

Illegal immigrants do have "rights" in this country...due process of law.

I didn't even think those were still around. They used to be up there with the el rancho market in the old days.

I noticed allot of places emptying out because the illegal immigrants are hitting the road.
Food city is dead by us and it used to have tons of them hanging around in the parking lot and store. Home depot's around town are getting a nice look to them once more ;)

That's pretty much how it was in every restaurant I've ever worked in...

I'm normally on the side of employees in most issues, but in this case, the employees were in the wrong and fired as they should have been. They knew what company policy was and chose to violate it. These people weren't protesting their treatment at Pei Wei, they were protesting something entirely different.

It's basically a case of these knuckleheads will now have all the time in the world to protest while someone else does they jobs they failed to do...

Actually they are scumbags and they are in it for their own agenda. The fucking union has no say so if the employees fired are not union members. I think anyone can understand this if they have been in a union or not.
You may want to brush up on union policies.

EZRhino 06-30-2010 04:21 PM

Thats a great stand for Pei Wei, the workers knew what the policy is and if they get denied the day off and they still go and have personal day. Then get ready to find a new job.

For the love of fuck please google "Right to work state" before you start asking about fucking unions.

IT'S PEI WEI. They're getting paid probably 6.90 an hour to wash dishes and prepare cafeteria style food, nobody gives a fuck about their jobs, apparently not even them.

buck30 06-30-2010 04:30 PM

Good. Glad they got fired. Now they probably packed up and ran to Pennsylvania . Good riddance
