Obama goes on TV and announces that in less than 6 months we'll likely all be dead. At that moment, society and civilization break down. It's every man for himself and if you aren't able to defend yourself and your family, without fail, you won't survive long enough to witness the actual event. Failure = Death.
If such an event were probable enough for our government to own up to it publicly, all rules go right out the window. If everyone knows the clock is ticking, what would you be willing to do to attempt to survive it?
And how would the rest of the world react....

This is why I've been thinking about owning a gun again, for the first time in 15 years.
I think when/if the shit goes down, I'd like to have a fighting chance, rather than just resigning myself to laying down and dying.
After seeing The Road, one of the major things that stuck with me was that having a gun can make 1000% difference as to whether you live or die...if the natural catastrophe doesn't get you first. Worrying about people is far scarier than anything nature can throw at me. After 3 days of anarchy, my neighborhood would look like a Mad Max movie, with a Thunderdome in the ballfield near my house.
