Glad you find this topic humorous Meta. When you meet with real depression, try not to off yourself. Just "cheer up", it'll all get better.

Maybe I was depressed, or maybe I've just been having a shitty last week or so. Maybe I was depressed, but nowhere near as much as I thought? Honestly, I can't tell you for sure. Perhaps seeing some positive and rational things being said was enough to get me over the hump to where I could tell myself that these people were right.

You were one of those positive and rational people, so thank you :)

None of these things, nor money, nor the lack of money have anything to do with depression. Do you think there are no wealthy people with depression? Most wealthy people have all of those things you mentioned and more, and some still live with depression. I had everything I ever wanted. Big, beautiful house in the wealthy section of south Maui.... enough money that I didn't need to worry about it.... youth, health, boat cruises, fancy dinners, etc.... and I still damn near put a 9mm full metal jacket hollow-point through my brain.

There's a reason I didn't post here for a few years. It took that long to get over that shit. "Cheer up" doesn't work. "It's all in your mind" doesn't work. "Get over it" doesn't work.

Bottom line is: if you can post about it you are not really depressed... Goodnight!

i do find it humorous when grown adults act like their problems are so much worse than others. so much so they will spiral into this fantasy of depression.

sorry i have been depressed, didnt off myself. i started a new business, got some pussy and hit the gym.

now i look back like "wtf was i thinking what a waste of time". i wasted prob a good year with bullshit before i snapped out of it. now i am happy as ever and will continue to be. it just showed me i am willing to work to solve my problems and not pop pills or be afraid of facing what really makes me down.

life is too short to be depressed.

Glad it worked out for you. Unfortunately, not everyone is so lucky. Not everyone survives depression, and not everyone can just shake it off by going to the gym and hittin' some pussy. You are a man among men.

what 5 dollar submissions said was the only piece of wisdom in this thread. the rest was absolute garbage, but to be expected.

these guys dont want you to feel better. they want you to continue to wallow in sorrow and give you the "it's gonna be ok bro" speech.

Reading it all through it sounds more like you had a bad day and just needed a few people to talk to.

Sabby 08-01-2010 10:31 AM

Depression is an addiction to feeling bad.

Break the cycle. Give yourself a big culture shock.

everything gets depressed here and there. part of the human condition

Everyone feels sad from time to time. It is not normal when you start to feel sad all the time and you stop doing things that you used to do. If it is a real problem, visit your doctor. Not everyone has to take drugs to feel better.
