I eloped to Las Vegas on Saturday

We have been together for over 5 years, living together for 4...and we've had joint accounts for 2 so it was just a matter of time. That being said, we did surprise everyone including our families which was pretty fun. It might not be for everyone, but I'm definitely glad we skipped all the expense and bullshit that comes with a big traditional wedding. Luckily my lady felt the same way.

Now let's hear all the advice from those who have gone before me. :helpme:helpme

Congratulations Sam!

When is the baby coming? ;-)

Bryan G 08-31-2011 09:01 AM

Congrats Sam :)

Doug of Montreal 08-31-2011 09:02 AM

Congrats Sam! And that's the way to do it. Get out of town and keep it intimate--as long as you can find a church in Vegas that doesn't seem like a tacky piece of the strip.

scuba steve 08-31-2011 09:03 AM

congrats sam! no advice to give though ;)

BAKO 08-31-2011 09:08 AM

Yeah, the place we went was like 20 minutes off the strip on a little lake so we have some nice pics coming actually.

No we actually did a chapel about 20 minutes away from the strip. It was on a little lake so good scenery and not really cheesy at all. That was the first question from about 50% of the people we called after though, including my dad and stepdad.

Cyndalie 08-31-2011 12:28 PM

Congrats. Personally we loved having the full support and celebration of our friends and family - we threw a great party and the BS was kept to a minimum.

Thanks

We are going to have parties in both New Orleans where she is from and Chicago where we live in the coming months. We will keep those relatively casual and as well but will have all of our family and close friends there to celebrate with us and get to know each other.

Congratulations! I wish you two a long and happy life together. :)

My wife and I tied the knot in a civil ceremony at the US Embassy in Tokyo. In keeping with our lifestyle, we went to a rock concert that night - and we've lived pretty happily together ever since.

When your spouse/significant other is also your best friend, life is good...you may now **** the bride! :wetkiss

Congratulations, nice job on keeping it intimate without all the family and associated stress.

Rochard 08-31-2011 04:39 PM

I look back at my wedding like 12 years ago, and my wife was good with the spending... But man, we still spent like $20k. Fuck it. Looking back what do you have for it? Some pictures and some grainy video tape you never watch. So should have gone to vegas man.

Rochard 08-31-2011 04:39 PM

Oh, congrats on getting hitched!

JFK 08-31-2011 05:33 PM

JenniDahling 09-06-2011 03:45 PM

Congrats Sam! We did the same, (my 3rd marriage, lol) but did it in a hot air balloon over Red Rock. I thought it was hilarious that when you exit the Vegas marriage license office you have all these promoters offering limo rides, chapel deals, etc,. I felt like I just got off a cruise ship and all the local vendors were trying to hawk their goods at me.

Here are my words of wisdom:
1) She may not always be right, be she is NEVER wrong
2) Always take out the garbage, turn your socks right side out before throwing it in the laundry, and keep her gas tank filled.
3) Tell her she's the most beautiful woman in the world, especially when she's feeling crappy.
4) The honeymoon should never be over, especially when stuff gets hard.
5)When all else fails, flowers, a mani/pedi date and dinner always works.

Good luck and may you have many many years of married bliss!
