U.S. to Canada move?
If you were to consider a move from the U.S. to Canada, what parts of that beautiful country would you be looking at? I'm interested in feedback from anyone: people who live there now, people who have lived there in the past, or even anyone who's done some research.
I've looked at Vancouver, Montreal, and Toronto so far. All have plusses and minuses. Cultural experiences are a plus, sports teams close by are another plus, etc. I enjoy going out and seeing different things. |
When did the draft get reinstated?

Check out Ottawa. Beautiful, clean city.

don't forget the irs :p

Anywhere but the big cities. Speaking from first hand experience, Vancouver is astronomically expensive for a place where the weather is either "cloudy and rainy", or "cloudy". Dreary doesn't even begin to describe the place for 8 months a year.
Nice scenery though, I guess. |

Incidentally, I'd be proud to serve in the military. I'd show up right away if I were drafted. |
Gotta have deep pockets if you want to live in Vancouver.

BC=Bring Cash.

I don't even like driving through Toronto. I couldn't imagine living there.

Canada is a nice place, to bad their weather is so bad....

I have lived in both Vancouver and Montreal. I loved both. It does rain a LOT in Vancouver. Since you like the east more I would recommend MTL. Move to the west side of town as the east is all frenchies and they refuse to speak English.
|
The Maritimes are beautiful. Look at Cape Breton, PEI, Newfoundland. I'm being completely serious.

What's the matter, you don't like Florida? I fucking hate Florida; it's like living in Jurassic Park: giant bugs, lizards, frogs, fucking alligators(yes, i've seen two alligators fucking), turtles, Haitans, the list goes on and on. Oppressive heat eight months out of the year. The fact that you're in the minority if you're able to speak English properly. Every fucking weirdo from the east coast seems to find their way down to Florida(no offense if you're from the east coast); mix that with immigrants from every third world latin shithole and throw in the shitkicking redneck natives, and you've got a melting pot of the worst kind. People drive like complete fucking idiots because they got their license in some straw hut in Columbia or they're 107 years old and legally blind. I Hate it there. Hate it!!!!!!!!!!! I mean, it's alright for a vacation or to stay for the winter, maybe, but fuck living there long term. The only thing that's great about it is the fishing.
Why don't you move to Maine? It's got all the natural beauty of Canada, and it's probably a lot cheaper. You can eat lobster with drawn butter everyday. Go fly fishing for steelheads and rainbow trout. Hunt all kinds of game: blackbear, Moose, huge whitetails. Go skiing and snowboarding. Maine is where it's at; I would love to live there someday. I'd much rather put up with the clannish Maine Yankees who don't like people from "away" as they put it, than the dregs of humanity that inhabit South Florida. |
Montreal. Awesome city and people live really young there too like in NYC. Get a place in Le Plateau.

You mentioned beauty. A former GFY member shot a bunch of these:

I moved from PA to Montreal 9 years ago. I live in a small town off the island of Montreal and I like it a lot here. I love the city, its just I prefer living in the country and not a city.
There are areas where it's all French. English isn't spoken or understood at all. But, for the most part, Montreal is pretty bilingual. Especially the more west you go. My French language skills are practically non-existent and it's seldom an issue. The people here are pretty friendly. Me being an American has never been an issue. Then again, I'm not one of these arrogant, ignorant Americans who thinks the world revolves around the United States and everyone has to adopt to our way of doing things because we're superior to everyone else. The food is good here. Especially the breads and pastries. It took me about 3 years of living here before I'd try poutine though. lol It just looked absolutely disgusting. But now, I actually like it. The weather here isn't unbearable. We have 4 seasons, even though there's an ongoing joke that Montreal only has 2 seasons - Winter and Construction - which there's a lot of truth to that. lol The cost of living really isn't that bad. |
Great nitelife in Montreal too. Let me know if you head up. My friend has an energy drink and always knows where to find the best parties. I'm not quite sure what the bathhouse scene is like there, though, but I'm sure you'll do your due diligence and figure that out in no time!

You can skip the middle of the country. If you hate the temperature dropping below freezing then that eliminates everywhere except Vancouver and Victoria.
If you're familiar with Seattle then that's generally what the weather here is like. There is a shit load of rain in the winter and I mean a shit load but at least your nose hairs don't freeze together. |

Maybe beautiful if you like "beige" ... Everything in Ottawa is beige! Home Depot must have had a Fire Sale on beige ... and the city planning board bought it all!! Ottawa has NO NIGHTLIFE WHATSOEVER!! I live less than an hour from Ottawa, and the ONLY appeal Ottawa has is the best Indian restaurant this side of Mumbai (with the awards to prove it!!). If you somehow end up in Ottawa (GPS is broken maybe??), do check out HAVELI on Clarence Street in the Market behind Parliament Hill. :thumbsup |
My vote goes to Montréal ....
I have lived here for 9 years now, and absolutely love it!! And Montréal has everything on your wishlist - culture, food, Old Montéal, The Habs ... And let us not forget la french-Canadien women .... some of the BEST in the world - NO LIES!! _____Sexy?Sex ____?Sexy?Sexy ___y?Sexy?Sexy? ___?Sexy?Sexy?S ___?Sexy?Sexy?S __?Sexy?Sexy?Se _?Sexy?Sexy?Se _?Sexy?Sexy?Se _?Sexy?Sexy?Sexy? ?Sexy?Sexy?Sexy?Sexy ?Sexy?Sexy?Sexy?Sexy?Se ?Sexy?Sexy?Sexy?Sexy?Sex _?Sexy?__?Sexy?Sexy?Sex ___?Sex____?Sexy?Sexy? ___?Sex_____?Sexy?Sexy ___?Sex_____?Sexy?Sexy ____?Sex____?Sexy?Sexy _____?Se____?Sexy?Sex ______?Se__?Sexy?Sexy _______?Sexy?Sexy?Sex ________?Sexy?Sexy?sex _______?Sexy?Sexy?Sexy?Se _______?Sexy?Sexy?Sexy?Sexy? _______?Sexy?Sexy?Sexy?Sexy?Sexy _______?Sexy?Sexy?Sexy?Sexy?Sexy?S ________?Sexy?Sexy____?Sexy?Sexy?se _________?Sexy?Se_______?Sexy?Sexy? _________?Sexy?Se_____?Sexy?Sexy? _________?Sexy?S____?Sexy?Sexy _________?Sexy?S_?Sexy?Sexy ________?Sexy?Sexy?Sexy ________?Sexy?Sexy?S ________?Sexy?Sexy _______?Sexy?Se _______?Sexy? ______?Sexy? ______?Sexy? ______?Sexy? ______?Sexy ______?Sexy _______?Sex _______?Sex _______?Sex ______?Sexy ______?Sexy _______Sexy _______ Sexy? ________SexY |
